1. I get on well with Helicore Hybrids (with a Zyex G), but that's just me. Perhaps when we meet up for a lesson you can have a go on my bass?
2. Couldn't bring myself to sell it! Will have to dig a bit deeper this month and next, but I'll regret losing Blue Ben* way too much. *After Benjamin Button, since it was born looking old
3. What the hell was I thinking? Just been playing it again this evening, and there's no way I can part with a bass this great. Mods, please lock this thread.
4. Owning a great big 410 seems a bit silly now that it's looking like I'll spend a considerable amount of time living in a small flat and getting around via public transport. Up for sale is my Aguilar GS410 (8 ohm). If you've owned one or played through one, you'll know what great cabs these are Currently in storage at my parent's house near Faversham (Kent), so collection preferred from there. We can chat about packing and couriering if you need though! It's in good condition, bar a little scuffing at the bottom front of the cab (I've included a pic). Asking £350. Not looking for anything specific tradewise, but do make an offer. Pictures:
5. Sorry shadowalka - I don't have access to any scales. I don't want to know how much I've ballooned recently! You're welcome to come feel the weight of it and have a play at Hector's House eevespete - it's got flats on, and it thumps like a beauty. Since JapanAxe asked, here's a picture of the front of the headstock so youse can all see the decal:
6. Putting my Limelight up for sale if anyone's interested: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/271630-limelight-1963-precision/
7. With a heavy heart, putting my Limelight 63 precision bass replica up for sale. It sounds, looks, and feels absolutely delightful - really nails the p tone. Unfortunately, I've not got currently any projects that require that vibe, and am about to incur some costs from [s]upgrading some of the parts on my double bass [/s]endless GAS. I did withdraw this once, but it's been all but unused since then, and it's made to be gigged! Asking [s]£750[/s] £700 and I'll throw in my protection racket case. Built for me in January 2015. Specs are: #145 Faded Sonic Blue Hand rolled finger board Clay dots Lightest relic Rosewood P width neck Parchment scratchplate Period correct 1960's Fender Precision logo Thumb rest below strings. All metal work just lightly tarnished Reverse Got0h Tuners Strap button on reverse of headstock Weight is 3.9 kg which is 8.6 lbs I have had a dodgy input jack replaced, and have also freed up all the tarnished hardware (can get seized up on some Limelights) and treated with a layer of WD-40 (plus a little dab of vaseline in the tuning machines). Would prefer to meet, so collection from south/central London preferred, but would also be willing to travel (within reason) or have the bass delivered. [s]As I said, looking to free up some cash for DB upgrades, so the only trade I'd consider is an Ibanez SR605 plus some cash my way.[/s] Trades considered, looking for 5ers with tight spacing and short scale lengths to string E-C. Pics attached (I hope!):
8. Ok, so a relatively common progression then! It's pretty much a IV I cadence (a-men) with the diminished adding some flavour. Typically it's gonna resolve smoothest to I/V (i.e. the I chord with a V in the bass). You'll hear it in: Blues Someday My Prince Will Come (at the end of the form, not the middle - the middle's a biii dim, different passing chord) In A Mellow Tone Rhythm Changes (depending on the version you use!) Doxy
9. Hell yeah man! Only thing between you and "fretboard rain man" status is time and effort
10. It's all about fingerboard shapes and patterns, so it has lots of fingerboard diagrams. It's amazing for getting your reading together, and you really learn the neck. Be warned though, it's hard work, and I know a lot of people who couldn't hack it.
11. Nice to have some feedback guys, thanks for taking the time to have a listen Haha, yeah Tim, that one bloody note....it did get a few chuckles in the studio, but in the end that take sounded best overall. Didn't want to edit anything in, wanted to do live takes. I'll pass on your compliments to Ben, Dad - he'll be really thrilled. I do wish they'd mix the bass up a bit, as it's a little indistinct on laptop speakers. Sounds plenty clear on headphones and other speakers though. EDIT - Having listened to the youtube versions, I wonder if uploading hasn't compressed the audio a bit. Here's a soundcloud set in case: https://soundcloud.com/h_3ct0r/sets/the-ed-wren-5tet I've finished editing the videos from two other tracks - one latin and a funkier number. As always, feedback welcomed.
12. Written by a good friend of mine, who is a fantastically talented pianist/composer. Would love some feedback.
13.
Exactly...here are a few examples that show the variation you can get from one standard/tune... Stella By starlight
This is my current favourite version, from Robert Glasper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-VY-zs2eiY
14.
Don't panic, I've read enough advice threads and searched the MU for local ones
I never panic, me Just keen for you to have the most fun possible, and I know from hard experience that going it alone can be frustrating/painful in the extreme...
15. Congratulations, welcome to the family, and GET A TEACHER!
16. Interesting, you mean the different requirements of posture for playing arco vs. playing pizz? Like, how changing the endpin height or bass angle for that reason can have an effect on the left hand?
17. Hi all, It's my mum's birthday tomorrow and plans have changed to during the day rather than evening. I think I need to be a good son! Really sorry to miss out, I've been looking forward to it for ages....
18. This is almost identical in concept and content: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chord-Studies-Electric-Bass-Technique/dp/0634016466
19. Found this on my cyber travels. Thought it might be of general interest, as there's some valuable information: http://www.artist-musikerhalsan.se/en/musician-ergonomics/33-double-bass-ergonomics (Only had a look at the linked section, but the list on the left has some interesting-looking bits and bobs about general posture and stance considerations)
20. To ask a stupid question - is the bridge adjustable?
21. You could ask him about his work with Dr. John maybe? Think DA produced his latest album Edit - second most recent, my bad. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locked_Down_(album)
22.
She HATES Jazz and thinks it's all pretentious b*ll*cks.
Funny, mine never got into jazz before but now she's taking piano lessons and asking me about hip voicings!
