Orange Terror - anyone interested in a casing for theirs ?
mikegatward replied to mikegatward's topic in General Discussion
A few fairly obvious questions:

Will this design change (i.e. enlarge) the dimensions much?
What sort of weight penalty would come with the wooden casing?
What ballpark cost figure have you in mind?

Can't gauge costs yet but I will take the minimum weight gain/dimension increase into the design requirements -
I'm in discussions with a woodworker guy about making a prototype casing for my Orange Terror. It would be covered in orange tolex and would be designed so the amp could be pulled out easily to allow for valve changes etc. It will probably incorporate mesh parts around the vented areas. If the prototype is successful, I might look to have a batch of these made up so wondered what the likely interest would be from the BC community. I've no idea on cost as yet - and the cost may well come down to the numbers involved So if you're interested in taking it further then shout up. i'm also interested to hear ideas about design I've heard of people in the US making and selling this type of thing but it all seems a bit hit and miss and impractical in terms of shipping costs etc

I contacted Shopatron who distribute Hercules gear in the UK as i'd lost the tightening screw on my double stand. Alex went out of his way to identify the correct part and sent it to me free of charge. We're always quick to bemoan poor service so it's only right to report the good stuff as well

Our admittedly heavy handed drummer was using the house kit on an open mic band night and broke the snare head in the first few bars of the first number. And we weren't the first band on -
I have a Panther Special, it looks like the one in this (non-English) link [url="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&safe=active&sa=X&tbo=d&biw=1424&bih=703&tbm=isch&tbnid=vPIN9Uq2sQVLtM:&imgrefurl=http://audiostacja.pl/index.php%3Fle%3Dprodukty%26pr%3Dprodukty%26numer%3D448%26kryterium%3DSANDBERG&docid=f0Sxr3g8S5L8RM&imgurl=http://audiostacja.pl/images/produkty/Sandberg/panther4-special-walnut_large.jpg&w=3072&h=1007&ei=bD_QUJGwLqSd2QXCh4DwDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=956&vpy=216&dur=220&hovh=128&hovw=392&tx=125&ty=71&sig=106406911143356253105&page=1&tbnh=87&tbnw=266&start=0&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:0,i:132"]http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&safe=active&sa=X&tbo=d&biw=1424&bih=703&tbm=isch&tbnid=vPIN9Uq2sQVLtM:&imgrefurl=http://audiostacja.pl/index.php%3Fle%3Dprodukty%26pr%3Dprodukty%26numer%3D448%26kryterium%3DSANDBERG&docid=f0Sxr3g8S5L8RM&imgurl=http://audiostacja.pl/images/produkty/Sandberg/panther4-special-walnut_large.jpg&w=3072&h=1007&ei=bD_QUJGwLqSd2QXCh4DwDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=956&vpy=216&dur=220&hovh=128&hovw=392&tx=125&ty=71&sig=106406911143356253105&page=1&tbnh=87&tbnw=266&start=0&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:0,i:132
One of the bands i play for has 2 female singers, as well as Blondie we've thrown in Eurythmics, Pretenders, Adele. Currently looking at KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See and also Tainted Love, the original Grace Jones version. Nice quick win there with Tainted Love.
Meant to say Gloria Jones, not Grace !

BC's new classifieds section - your opinions please
mikegatward replied to ped's topic in General Discussion
Sellers who don't state a price, or who don't provide photos or who endlessly bump their ads without any one else adding comments simply won't get a sale. End of. Sellers who provide a frim or indicative price, and provide good descriptions and photos, which attract positive comments 'great price for a great bit of kit' etc etc will have a far higher chance of a sale In short, if you put in the effort, you'll get the reward I personally do prefer the style of the For Sale sections rather than the classifieds and can see that some form of cost needs to be charged to advertisers. To stop the bumping rules being broken, why not just make those pages display by start date rather than Recent Update date ? - ideally the Recent Update option could be disabled for the For Sale forums Additionally, adverts could be auto deleted after a certain time to prevent someone replying to a 12+ month advert with 'Is this still available' - that one really bugs me especially when the thread then goes to the top of the page. Note to moderators - as an experienced and quailified software tester, i'd be happy to volunteer my services to help test out any potential changes to the site -

Looks like it's a preamp issue rather than the foam insulation idea. Am taking it in at the weekend to get looked at by Jack Ellis over on Manchester -
I'm putting my black Westone Thunder 1A up for sale Plays really welll, frets in good condition. There's some marks and knocks around the bottom edge but nowt serious. The black finish does show surface scratching typical of a finish of this age. It's particularly noticeable on the back but doesn't affect how it plays. These basses have a wide range of tones and all electrics on this is behaving like they should I'm asking [s]£150 [/s]£130. I'm based in West Yorkshire and can meet up within an hour or so distance. Postage can be arranged if necessary and I've a spare hardcase that could be supplied with a sale for a good price. Anyone local wanting to try it out is welcome. Piccies are here: http://s1126.photobu...d/blackthunder/

Here's a link to the piccies of the interiors. I unplugged to pcb to get better shots There's nothing obviously loose in there. Interestingly, the foam around the pcb has completely disintegrated and left a stick residue when gently brushed away - i wonder if thats affected some of the connections on the pcb ? The Aguilar 3 band is looking like a good option if this is not repairable http://s1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/mikegatward/ibanez/ -
that should be fixable I would have thought. They are supposed to be reasonably well made- turn up your amp, turn it to active and play with the knobs (esp the treble) is there any difference in the amount of hiss you are getting? It's one of those things I want to open up and fix! I like fixing things!
