1. Geert, have a bump from me for a brilliant amplifier. I love mine, worth the extra over MB3 and TC450 etc etc . A very natural and flexible sound pallette on the front end and for me the best class D power amp section on the back end with impedance loading options to suit your cab options. Try it with 2 x 4 ohm cabs linked on the 1000w bridged output ( 8 ohm ). Its awesome !! good luck K
  2. And because of this I got to buy your lovely stingray ( which is awesome) Well done Andy, really pleased for you good luck and let me know when you are Northern bound with the Band regards Keith M
  3. contetious handgrenade.... but i thought Maccas bass sound was a bit lame and lost last night. I was listening through the hi-fi and it just didnt seem to cut through the other instruments enough. Am not doubting his tallent... just something missing in the low end!! regards Keith M

    OMG !!

For info Guys... I had the all the tone controls on the Stingray set flat, and i nudged the Mid control a touch backward and forward during the rehearsal as required but i mean only a little. treble and bass knobs stayed at centre dent. For what its worth and only my opinion, the Sansamp BDDI does favour a hotter output from a bass. Am loving that stingray sound .. need we cover a show us your Stingray thread ? or has that been done before ? regards Keith

    OMG !!

Guys, I think the penny may have dropped tonight.. I bought a MM Stingray 4 string 3 eq off a fellow Bc'er "Captain Bass", and even though i didn't plan to, i used it for rehearsal with the band tonight. My god i have found A tone and the band members commented " what the F*** was that ??" Totally made sense with the stuff we play and i just pushed it through a Sanasmp DDI with my own preset into a flat amp and a 2 x 12. God it was awesome. OK i admit, i love to have nice things and i love all my basses, but i reckon i have found a very happy place with this one regards Keith M
  6.
Time to move on the old Ric. I've had a few in my time and keep coming back to them, but I'm not gigging it so it has to make way for what I need. 1997 Fireglo finish which is maturing nicely from it's original red colour (buy a new one and they are a bit red and pink for my liking). Unusually for a Rickenbacker, it shows signs of actual use (rather then being hung up as a very expensive wall decoration). Slight scuffing (break out the Zymol to cure that) and minor dinks here and there which can only really be seen on very close inspection. No buckle rash. A couple of nicks on the body binding (check close-up pics). She is subtlely pre-dinked, so no need to panic about it coming to grief in a gig situation. The neck is what I would describe as 'middling', not a 4001 skinny, but certainly not the type of clunker that has been on the go in recent years. All original parts apart from the saddles which have been replaced with genuine Ric newbies (the old ones were getting a bit too deep in the grooves). I have not filed the saddles and am letting the strings make the grooves. The string tension keeps them in place no problem, even when digging out some Jam riffs. Bridge pickup unit is complete with pointless cover in place (feel free to remove it - I only put it back in place to move the bass on). The nut is the original black one, but I will also include a new white/cream nut for that vintage look. The nut is not glued in place, but again the string tension keeps it solid. I prefer to do this because it allows me to adjust the nut sideways to increase/decrease the space between E/G strings and fretboard edges. The original Ric case is also included. It has been well used and done its job. It still protects the bass perfectly, but the feet on the bottom edge have collapsed and the plastic is cracked around them (this is how I got it and I have had no need to replace the case - works perfectly - total protection). I am not looking for a sale at the moment, and for the purposes of trade-in value I would place this anywhere between £900-£999 (A Ric for less than a grand!!) I am looking for a fretless bass, unlined with a Jazz type neck. Fender Jazz itself, or something like a MM Sterling. As long as it has a nut-width of 38mm and a reasonably shallow profile. Nothing too outrageous in terms of body colour (no blues, greens or oranges). Happy to take a bass plus cash, but don't want anything valued over £999 (I just wouldn't gig it). Also happy to take bass plus something else to make up the difference - not sure what yet, so will update this if something comes to me.... And here's the eye-candy: I will also be selling separately a Hipshot replacement bridge (best after-market Ric upgrade ever) and a set of vintage Rick knobs.
Howdy, nice ric... Keep me posted on that Hipshot regards Keith M

  11.
Hamers are awesome instruments & are ridiculously under-appreciated in this country. I'm a member of the Hamer Forum & have had many Hamer guitars. You won't find a better made instrument from any manufacturer IMO. I think the figure of £400 - 500 being mentioned here is pretty much bang on, though I have seen them go for less. The pickups having been changed might make a difference though. What were the originals - Duncans or EMGs? Does it have the original Hamer case? You'd be insane to get rid of this bass to buy a Fender Jazz IMO - the Hamer is in a different league altogether.
Looking at both sets of photos it looks like maybe the original pick-ups were Bassline which i think are Seymour Duncans. I guess BottomE can answer this.. just an observation on my part A really lovely bass though regards Keith M

  16. Thanks Happy Jack that waylays a few fears of a faulty unit regards Keith M
IME, yes & yes. Some of the pre-sets have a lot of treble and they can hiss a bit. You should find that the more bassy pre-sets don't have the same issue. The knobs can also go a bit warbley as you change settings, as if there are some sort of "threshholds" that you're moving through. Note also that the BDDI is really very sensitive to active basses, and quickly slips into extreme overdrive sounds. It's much easier to use and control (IMHO) with passive basses. You need to be a bit careful if you're running a compressor pedal at the same time. Depending on your settings, you can get some outrageously 'gnarly' tones.
17. Hey all, i got mine yesterday and love the sound and tones, but i noticed 2 things, it hisses slightly depending on the preset, but this dissappears when you hit the switch and go to by pass. Also when making on the fly changes, i get some modulation noise depending how much you change the setting until you double click and save the settings whereupon it stops. the main question IS THIS NORMAL regards Keith M For info i am using a Solid state Tecamp Puma 1000, plugged into the front input with all settings flat.

  20.
Its a 1972 replica of the bass Geddy Lee uses, it's made in Japan with American Parts like quite a few signature basses (Marcus Miller signature) U.S Badass 2 bridge, Original U.S 60's Pickups( tapered pole) U.S CTS controls. the Truss Rod Adjustment is located at the Butt end of the neck where it joins the body! as FENDER didn't move truss rod adjustment to headstock till mid/late 70's ( its back at the butt end again now on all new USA Fenders tho) and the main differences between this jazz and a Precision is:- it has a slimmer neck than P Bass the pickups are 2 single coils which have more variation of tone than the Precision which has just 1 humbucking pickup! Dont wanna dis the P Bass cos i love them too it all boils down to taste at the end of the day! but this is a fantastic sounding/playing instrument If you wanna know anything else let me know Regards
Thanks Dude great reply cojitation time regards Keith M
  21. Hi there, Just a couple of questions: where was this made, is it a mexican or american..??? and if my eyes dont decieve me, is the truss rod hole filled in at the head ?? how is it adjusted. Finally , how would the sound of this compare to a Fender P bass ?? I really like the look of this bass as i love jazz basses. I have a Sandberg California JJ which i use as my one and only. Am currently looking at adding a fender USA P bass.. but this could tempt me !!! AND coincidentally i am in Cheshire regards Keith M
