1.
I tried the Rocker, and found the tube drive was pretty digital - either on or off, it was 'on' from 2 on the dial, and stayed pretty much the same all the way round to 10. A bit too fizzy for me. Conversely, I thought the LM Tube was too subtle. I got a great Ampeg-alike sound from a LMIII and Sansamp BDDI, but then got a RH450 and sold both, because the RH450 does it all in one box. I'd love to try a Streamliner, although I've tried several GB Shuttles, and didn't like them enough to buy one. IMHO, YMMV, etc, etc. Volume-wise, it's fairly dependent on cabs, but I'd suggest most to of the small 500w heads would be plenty - after all, all you really have to do is keep up with the drummer, because once he starts going into the PA, so do you... Really, I'd suggest trying as many as you can, because everyone's ears are different. There's a few places around the UK where you can try most of the competing amps in one visit (Bass Direct being one I'm familiar with - I think Mark's got the Markbass, GB and TC heads all in at once) which is very useful for side-by-side comparisons. Take your own bass, and even your cab if it's a keeper. Depends where you're located, though. It's all fun.
Hi Muzz +1 for the RH450 I have the 3 memory presets set at: 1 Clean with a slightly lifted bass and trebble 2 Nice drive / distortion ( about 60% tubetone) and smidgin of compression 3 Mids scooped , bass and treble slightly lifted. Covers all my basses and even lets you memorise the gain setting for each just in case you switch basses. Lovely sounding amp , visual Led`s on the rotaries settings with.. a built in tuner...and a headphone socket for quiet practice wouldnt swap mine regards Keith M
 2.
Good Afternoon Guys, I was wondering if anybody who may live near to me ( Widnes cheshire ) ,would be willing to loan me a bass head even if only for a hour. The Story : I have a TC RH450 and my 2 passive basses a 2005 Ricky and a 1997 De-armond starfire hum badly unless you turn up the volume to full on both pick-ups or touch the strings. My 2 active basses, a 2009 sandberg JJ california and a MM stingray 2007 are fine. I have e-mailed Tc support and they reckon its the basses fault, but i would like a sanity check as i find it a bit too coincidental that 2 basses are at fault. I have changed leads etc and before i do something drastic to the basses i would like to try a different Head Incidentally I bought the passive Ricky and the De armond after i bought the RH450. I am willing to pick up and will offer some security ie i will leave one of my active basses. please feel free to check my feedback under ingenius i am 100% trustworthy If possible a class D head would be great Thanks in advance Keith M
Ok Guys a quick update: I have accepted Mikes kind offer of a loan of his amp But Anyway, last night i was scrapping off my daughters old PC and I looked at the mains lead ( kettle type) and had an idea. I swapped it with the one in the TC and the Hum has dissapeared on both basses and full use of pick-ups and volume controls, only very slight microphonic effect which is to be expected. I am gonna monitor it over the next week or so to make sure it is not something else going unstable. But it looks promising so far. thanks to all again Keith M
 3. Guys, can i just say thank you to all who offered to help me, the BC community really is a great place to be. regards Keith
 4.
I'm coming over to the United game tomorrow from Wakefield so could bring an amp with me. I meet with mates in The Hope near Hope Hospital, 6 till 6.45 or so If you drop it back to a mates house in stockton heath, he can bring it to our next rehearsal. Alternatively, I'm back for next home game on easter saturday
Wow Mike.. that would be great for the easter saturday.. and Stockton Heath is 15 mins away. Perfect, you are very kind and hopefully it will bottom the issue out once an for all ( i even considered buying another amp !!). I will arrange the details with you next week.. again Many many thanks regards Keith Murray

Less than a year old. 500 watts @ 4ohms. Sorry - not interested in trades. Lazy pic taken whilst watching ManU v Chelsea....
I fully accept your excuse for the lazy piccy Dude let me guess !! incoming GB Streamliner 900 ?? have a bump on me for a lovely amp and a bit of Gas regards Keith M ( a Man U fan )
 6.
I'm junction 14 M6 if that's any better, Genz amp and Laney amp to test them with?
Hi there, thats very kind and about less than an hour away.. brilliant.. if there is no one nearer i will PM you. Would love to try the genz with the humming basses as it is a current d class like the RH450. Hopefully i can isolate this issue ! thanks again Keith M
 7.
Sounds to my like a grounding issue on your passive basses, they are (IME) more prone to this anyway.
MMM i am thinking this but the Ricky isnt really old, and has hardly been used before i got it.. it just seems a bit too coincidental that both basses have the exact same fault and behave in exactly the same way. Dont get me wrong if i have to pay to have rewires and improved sheilding i will.. but i really want to be certain. regards Keith M
 8.
Alternatively might make sense to take your basses and head to someone, rather than borrow their amp? Cheers Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for your reply, but my thought process was to leave everything in the same position plugged into the same ring main same room cab and cabling etc and that would confirm or not that the amp was at fault. regards Keith M
 9. That is a kind offer sir and if it turns out there is nobody nearer, then i will PM you and take you up on it. regards Keith M

 11.
It could be, but that's quite a coincidence. The two passive basses are significantly older than the two active ones. Although the baseline technology remains pretty similar, the materials and construction\assembly methods used have generally improved somewhat. I'd be tempted to take a peek inside on of the active basses and compare that to the guts of one of the passive basses. I bet the active basses are nicely shielded inside and have nice shiney solder connections while the passive ones are just electronics in an unshielded wood cavity with a few dull joints. You don't by any chance have (or have access to) another amp to check that the problem stays with the guitars?
Thats my next line of inquiry.. i need to find an amp to borrow just to exclude that.. also will change the power lead ( kettle type) to the amp just in case the earth has gone faulty thanks for the reply and thoughts regards Keith M
 12.
+1 The amp just amplifies whatever it sees applied to it's input socket, it doesn't differentiate between active\passive basses. Given that the hum almost disappears when you touch the bass metalwork, I'd say there's a poor earth connection somewhere.
MMM yep that is what i thought.. but why doesnt it happen on the Active basses...could this just be a coincidence that both passives are faulty ?? regards Keith
 13. Guys, have just submitted this to TC Support its really strange but i thought somebody here might be able to throw a little light onto it "Can you help me with a really strange fault with my RH450.My 2 passive basses, a 2005 Rickenbacker 4003 and a 1997 De - Armond Starfire both hum when plugged into the head. This hum goes away when you either A. Turn both pick up volumes up to near max, or B. The hum nearly disappears if you touch the strings or bridge. I have changed the instrument cable and this has no effect. So i cannot play on different pick - ups as when i turn one down the hum appears. I also have 2 active basses, A MM stingray 2008 and a 2009 Sandberg California JJ4 which do not suffer at all. The Sandberg has 2 pick ups which i can choose from...the stingray is a single H." thanks in advance Keith Murray
 14. Good morning Guys, its on its way to Dano.. will be in the post later today. regards Keith M
 15. Guys, just picked up a 1997 De-armond starfire Bass in cherry red, a quick clean and set up with new strings and its lovely. Question : the Pickups still have like a rubber / plastic cover on them.. is this normal or can it come of ?? WTF is it for ? to stop them going rusty with sweat ?? thanks in advance and regards Keith M

 17.
£410 is a fair price for one in good nick. Unplugged volume isn't that much more than a solid body, where it comes into its own is you get the acoustic tone plugged in without the huge body of a full acoustic. And although it's short scale, it doesn't feel like one. Really nice neck. I've also heard that Hammon has disappeared, and there's really nothing wrong with the stock pickups, unless you're desperate to be a Jefferson Airplane tribute. I did find with mine the tone controls don't do much, but there's plenty of other ways round that.
Hey thanks for the Info I suspect that the Darkstars will no longer be an option. Hope the stock ones are bulletproof otherwise if one fails i may well have to get the wizard to rewind them or source a custom pair from somewhere. regards Keith
 18.
Wish I had known you wanted a Starfire -- I am just about to put my Sunburst one up for sale! If your ebay sale fall through let me know!
Sorry about that Dude, was really wanting a cherry one ..but i will let you know if anything goes wrong like a catastrophic crack that wasnt declared . Why are there so few about on Basschat ?? regards Keith
 19.
Can I just take this opportunity to call yo a C*$%. I remember these being in a magazine when they came out. I think it was Guitarist before bassist came out. I had the magazine with the starfires in them for years, might even still be in the attic.
None taken i guess it was lucky that i was around early morning to outbid whoever was the main other bidder. Hey if you have still got a mag with it in ,it would be interesting for me... let me know we can sort something even a loan of it Cherry was my first choice of colour followed by black then SBurst ( i have 2 black basses already) I will post some pictures on here and update my porn thread when it arrives. regards Keith
 20. Wow guys am really excited. I have been after one of these for a couple of years and they seem to be a bit rare on BC. Won it on E-bay this morning, Have paid £410 but it was about what i was willing to pay. Cherry red nid 90s in great condition. Cant wait, but i will take it to Dave Wilson Guitars for a service though. As for Darkstars !!!!.. I will see how it sounds as stock as really i wasnt intending to gig it.. just makes it a bit easy to practice at home solo without plugging in. Any thoughts ?? regards Keith M
 21. guys look, this is really simple.. if you can afford one then have the affair, dont be afrad to come out to all the family, and tell them you are in love with another . If it doesnt work out, dont worry ,you have been there and had the experience good or bad. If it does work out ,then you will be a happy adulterous s**t for the rest of your life. If you cant afford it then there are magazines you can buy with a box of tissues at the newsagents... Seroiusly though, i have been fortunate to find the one i really lusted after and it plays beutifully and sounds great and i can get all the tones i need out of it. Whatsmore it gets gigged and not left under the bed to tick the box that says " i own a Rickenbacker bass" hope this doesnt offend anybody regards Keith M
I have a massive want for a rickenbacker 4003! It happens every year...I just know deep down I wouldn't use it! Or would I...............?
22. This is a quality piece of kit, the DI is superb and it can be used as a full blown pre-amp.. i would never sell mine grab youself a bargain bump regards Keith M
Bump to the top with ya!
23.
Perfect line up pretty much. Just need a Thunderbird and then you'd have pretty much all of the iconic 'classics'.
AND Bass Guitar Magazines top 5 out of 65, how spooky is that ?? regards Keith M
