1. Asking whats better: PC v Mac Pro Tools v Logic v Cubase v Nuendo v Everything else Reason v Kontact v Everything else is much the same as saying on this forum, whats better: P Bass v Jazz Bass v Stingray Trace v Ampeg v Ashdown Boss v Aphex v Line 6.... But people do get wound up about it. G ps - pro tools and mac all the way
2. hmmmm cheers for that So, they sound crap and thats why they are ace . Cool. G
3. Those studio spares NS10 clones look cool. I thought the point of the NS10's was that they sounded pretty crap? Therefor for reference monitors they were perfect for comparing your mix between systems? G
4. MXL 603s. http://www.thomann.de/gb/mxl_603s.htm?partner_id=59917 Some reviews suggest it is super bright... The 604s has a pad switch which would be helpful but i dont think they come on their own. opinions would be great. G
5. I use pro tools, logic express amd reason. There are no real differences kiwi. Cubase, PTS and Reason run like-for-like on a mac and pc. Locig is a mac only application though. G
6. with the likes of the api or neve you could just bin your pre. The Funk - you played with any the drawmer valve compressors? I used the 1968 dual valve fella the other days and it was lovely. Really subtle but effective compression. It amazed me that, the more you spend of compressors, the less they sound compressed and sound more natural if you get what i mean. The S3 looks like it should be in a Tank. Hell, it probably was.... G
7. So that would be last night then? how did it go. They sound quite porcupine tree esque.... i like it G
8. Nice! Looking forward to seeing this one all done G
9. http://www.apiaudio.com/7600.html Awesome piece of kit that http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...7099/a/r/e/base Again. Now, although these cost a fortune, i bet either will be the last thing you will ever buy being up there in some of the best studio outboard money can buy. G
10. Dood, i have used some TL Audio stuff and dont like it too much. It made stuff quite muddy. I have heard other reliability probems about them too (although everyone i know with them has not had too much bother).
11. 40 grit is perfect for hammering through laquer though. No one in their right mind, after looking at the stuff, would put in on any wood. G
12. There is the jazz project: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17 I used mostly 60 grit but also had some 40 grit (i found it lasted half as long as a bit of 60) Good luck G
13. Nice one man, removing the finnish is a bitch. You have not got to the horns so you dont know the half of it yet. It is rewarding so keep at it. One word of warning, if you are tired give up for the day. You will do more damage than good. My GF is at grays look like the finnish is gonna awesome G
14. dig deeper. it retails at between £500-£1,000 depending on what you are after. G
15. I remember every bass you have gone through man Good times G
16. John Mayer is your best mate!? I have a herbie hancock cd he does a track on and its stunning! G
17.
I used to have a Tobias - it was a great little bass, light, fast, funky, with a Darth Vader hologram sticker (May the Funk be with you). I sold it to buy my Warwick, but do miss it at times (sigh...) Very nice gear Garry - just read the build diary on the Jazz, and as I've just sanded my floors I can relate to the volumes of sandpaper! The Jazz looks great, more food for thought...
Cheers man, I made a fatal mistake defretting that bass. One day ill refret it and get a john east in it to beef it up.
Hi Garry nice gear. How are you finding the apple for recording and how many tracks can you record simultaneoulsy with that set up? Could you do a live band? Steve
The apple is awesome. Never really lets me down. A few little "thinking pauses" now an then (like monthly) but its a solid, fast, reliable machine. With the addition of the new preamps i have i can record 8. I could do 16 simultaneously with something like the behringer ada8000 that gives me another 8 through adat. So, yep, i could do a full band. G
18. Nice one. What a brilliant thread. Got a new project that would be cool to post up about. As max says, this is the beginning of a long and painfull journey or spending. After the FMR (which is awesome) you will startlusting for an 1176 (dont google it, you will want one) and then onwards. Keep the updates coming G
19. Sorry man, ill shift that other strings thread. G
20. we never intended to mess things up. Like we said, it cannot be done offline so we are experimenting still. G
21. The elixier lights are good. The retain their zing for tha bit longer too. G
22. I work in a practice room/studio. A wee marsal stack, a wee fender stack and a B series ampeg stack keep everyone happy. Drum kit wise pearl exports are ok and very easy to get spares for. Pa - JBL and Soundcraft spirit powered desks. They NEVER fail. Mics - Bite the bullet and get 58's anything else will fall apart in no time. They may be 3 times the price but last 5 times as long. G
23. I prefer the old one too i think..... Bit black and white for me. G
