1. Hi Mick Yes, still available. Sounds - a bit like a Gibson 335. More like a Gibson 335 than you'd expect for the money, anyway! Good sustain - great sound for blues and, when pushed, rock. Not really a jazzy hollow body. You can select neck/bridge/both pups with volume and tone for each pup, too. You are welcome to come a try it.
2. And a rescue from page 3 type bump. Serious bit of kit here for next to no money.
3. From what I have read over the last couple of days you are spot on. So, widening the net a bit to JV, SQ, Q, E and silver series - or any of the Japanese built Squiers up to around '95. From reading it would seem they are all built in Fujigen factory - would that be right? If so that would presumably be why they are so good. How would they stack up to these latest crop of VM and CV series?
4. I am still finding my way with strings but for sure prefer flats to round. Fender Jag has TI Jazz Flats - love 'em. Westones both have D'Addario Chrome flats - these are both detuned and the extra tightness makes them easier to play when detuned, sort of back to normal. TIs flopped about too much. Hohner B2A has just been strung with Status double ball end flats and I am really impressed. Similar feel to the TI's but cheaper. Washburn Scavenger still has the same flats on it as when I bought it. They are probably the best of the lot but I have n idea what they are. When I had a Squier VMJ fretless I had Rotosound flat black nylons on it and they were nice.
5. You've kept it! Fantastic. As you say, no greater endorsement needed.
6. Made my ears hurt, reading that.
7.
Hi Paul Its 40 mm mate. Thanks Dave
Cheers, so quite skinny by p-bass standards. Vesalius, I am not entirely sure but I think you can find p-bass with 40, 42 or 44mm width at the neck. No firm idea which width applies to which model, mind you.
8. This might sound like a daft thing to say but would it be of value to anyone other than myself if someone were able to demonstrate how various amp settings - low gain/high gain, different EQ settings etc - affect the sound. Happy to volunteer my TE rig for the purpose. It is something I just never seem to get time to do it at rehearsal as everyone is always noodling as soon as they get set up, so I press the 'pre-shape' and get on with it.
9. Now THAT is a handsome bass guitar. Love the maple neck with all black body. Thanks for that - seems like those early-mid 80s Squires are worth a punt for sure.
10. Dave - what is the neck width at the nut on this one, please?
11. Pretty sure that a Hiscox STD-EBP case would fit. I bought one fro my Washburn Scavenger, see left, which has a similar fat arse to the Grabber.
12. A return from holiday type bump. I am almost giving this away!
13. Thanks all, appreciate the knowledge. Andy - sorry mate, good luck with the sale but I would only want a black one (I know, how shallow...) and without the extra pup, too. I will follow the black one on eBay one closely.
14. Been looking at these as they have been passing by on eBay relatively frequently at the moment - there is currently a nice looking black SQ series up for grabs that I am idly following. What is the lowdown on these? Are they comparable? The JV always seems to get a good write up. And how would they compare to, say, the Tokai hardpuncher. Or even a Fender of the same age?
15. Try either of these service centres?
16. Well, to be totally sure I suppose I need to have played with all types on all instruments as they all sound different. But, having said that, they don't seem anywhere near as bright as the D'Addarios did when they were newer, which I like. More like the Thomastiks in they way they play and sound but, if anything, a bit slinkier. If you see what I mean. Acid test will be how they sound when played loud, which unfortunately won't be for a couple of weeks or more. They are certainly better than I had expected and I would probably try 'regular' Status flats next time I need to replace any.
17. Bump for a ridiculous price drop - I really do want shot of this. A very good quality instrument, very rock and roll yet different to your average axe. It can sound bluesy but also distorts and overdrives for hard rock sounds. Sustains for ever. £150 collected, £170 posted. I am away for a week as of the crack of dawn Monday, BTW.
18. Just a quick update - I ordered some and they are brilliant. Feel really slinky. Not played at rehearsal/gig level yet so look forward to that. Cheaper than D'Addario or TJ flats that I have bought previously, too, despite being double ball end.
19. I don't think so. I never found one, anyway. Now sold, BTW
20. Looks like this is sold pending the usual
21. In very good nick, still with original box etc. I bought this from a fellow basschatter in March 09, used it a little bit but now learn stuff differently and so have no use for it. Here is a link to the Tascam website for spec etc but, as they say on all the best ads, if you are reading this you know what they are. New they are currently around £140, looking for £75 posted.
22. Pics. Very slight buckle rash, a little marking on the headstock and a slight scuff on the f hole (ooh matron etc...)
23. In a rush of blood I bought this from a fellow band member when he bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio and decided to move it on. It has sat here doing nowt ever since. Daft really, as I rarely pick up a guitar and, when I do, use one of my JapCrap models so I thought I'd sell it on. And, well, you know, maybe buy another bass.... Here is a link to the Ibanez webpage about them and here is an image nicked from the site: Anyway, this is pretty well spotless. It looks and plays like a dream - nice low action and a fast neck. Sound-wise it does a lot of things but mainly it is like a Gibson 335 - it overdrives nicely and sounds really meaty when pushed. Nice sexy cool looking guitar for someone who wants something a little different from the herd. I think production of this model has stopped but Reidy's have them still for £269. This one comes with a fitted Gator hardcase that is a bit like the Gibson Les Paul ones. Can't find the exact model but it must have cost over £50. Actual pics to follow. Looking for [s]£180[/s] NOW [s]£150[/s]a ridiculous £140 collected from SE Essex, another £20 to post it ParcelForce 48.
24. I have put an end to my own misery and bought the cab at PMT for £225. Should shut me up for a few minutes. Thanks everyone.
