  1. Thanks all for the replies - B14 looks good I'll have a research 👍
  2. Excellent thank you - saw that video and it sounds OK - too gainy for me but I'm sure with the gain lower it'd be OK. I'll give it a bash and let you know
  3. Hi all - I might be asking the wrong crowd here but I will try anyway... I'm currently in a trio that is soon to become a duo, and as such I will need to play some electric guitar as well as bass. I currently use the VT Bass deluxe with my bass and all is well. My question is - would I be able to plug an electric guitar into the 'B' channel of the deluxe and get useable results out of the PA, as you do with a bass sound? I will be returning to guitar from a 18 year stint of playing bass exclusively, so technology and pedals have changed massively since I last looked. My suggestion seems like an easy solution, but can't find any evidence if this being done online, so like I say any advice is helpful. I naively thought that guitar would just be the same as bass and a preamp pedal would do the lot, but it seems like a right mess in to go 'ampless' if you play guitar. The singer is currently on holiday so won't get to try it myself for a couple of weeks. Cheers
  4. Hi - just a quick question about a possible trade - is swapping an Ashdown ABM 500 evo ii with a fitted flight case for an Orange Terror Bass 500 a fair trade?? Thanks
  5. Mate if this is still available ill have it. Im just in Benton in newcastle, ill PM u with my details. Cheers. Andy
  6. Sold to the gentleman 2x18!!!!! Ill PM you on my lunch (half 1) Thanks everyone
  7. Hey there - should have said they're 4 string, they were long scale however have been fitted on a standard scale fender and cut to fit accordingly. Ill amend my original ad cheers
  8. Hey there, I have a set of TI Jazz Flats for sale or trade. 4 strings, standard scale.I only bought these in August 2012, and despite trying my hardest to like them, they just dont do it for me. So as per the rules of the market place: * I will sell these for £22 posted to your door * I would also trade these for a set of Labella 'Jamerson' strings if anyone wants to trade. Thanks Andy
  9. Hey there - I take it from your profile pic that you must be an Entwistle fan right?? Well Im in a Who tribute band up in Newcastle and use the DHA VT1 EQ for the exact purpose you describe - always on for a slight drive - aggressive but not overpowering. If you need more gain (pinball wizard "dur-ders") the pedal can do it easilly, although I find as I increase the gain I have to increase the treble on the bass guitar for the sound I like. Just generally excellent!!!
  10. Noelk27 - yeah your totally right, and my pickups deffo ARENT made by Gotoh, so the more I look and read up on it I think I just have a standard 'export' model with the basswood body..... Ive now gigged it twice and it is a massive step up from the previous bass I was using (32" Burns Marquee) Thanks again
  11. So I took the neck off this weekend to have a look see what was stamped, at it had a rather confusing "015-008" with no date stamp. Looking up different info over the weekend I now believe that its part of the CIJ series dated 1999-2002. A positive aspect is it appears to be a non export one with the american pickups!!!! And I now have a rosewood fingerboard to finally try out some lemon oil, see if its all its cracked up to be. Thanks again for the info
  12. Hey everyone, thanks for the detailed replies. I intend giving it a good going over this weekend which will problys involve taking the neck off, so ill have a look down there see what it says. Ive also emailed Fender Japan and am awaiting their info. Thanks again Andy
  13. Hello everyone, just a quickie. Ive just picked up a Fender Jazz JB62 (which is lovely!!!) with the serial number P023208, "Crafted in Japan". Attempting to date the guitar online suggests that the P serial number was between 1993-1994, however it contradicts itself by saying only "crafted" models were made after 1996-1997. So was there ever a P series CIJ? If so anyone have any crack about them??? cheers
  14. Hello mate, Im currently on the same journey as yourself, moving to acoustic stuff (however not with the same radio success - well done!!!) and these are my findings so far: As many people on here have said on here in the past an acoustic bass nails the look, however has too many problems sound wise, mainly feedback. I imagine in a studio session this could be controlled, however as a gigging instrument Ive had to ditch mine twice at half time of a gig. Ive tried the rubber sound hole things, moving the speakers as far away as possible, and even different strings and a sponge mute, still proved problematic. In the end I traded my acoustic for a natural coloured Jazz bass, took the scratchplate off and added tapewound strings. My employer (the singer) was initially sceptical, however once he heard it at the gig and saw the black strings he was sold. So make what you will from that. Good luck with the sessions (p.s. The acoustic Bass was a Hofner HAB03)
  15. Nice video - I have been using this pedal/pre amp now solidly for over 2 years and its just CLASS!!! No other word for it. I use it in a Who tribute band and it gets the 'live at leeds' sound perfectly. As the video shows if more gain is needed then it handles it easilly. I use it as a valve preamp, so for 90% of the set it is set at low-ISH gain, and cant say enough good things about it. Ive often used it without an amp, just an XLR into the desk, at venues from pubs to O2 academys and been impressed everytime. My (no longer) secret weapon. Thank you Dave. Andy
  16. Ive a gig tonight so ill try a new power supply with it see what happens.... Cheers Dave Andy
  17. Cheers for the replies, I just wanted to see if it was an actual issue or how valves go after a time. I love the pedal like, I rely on the tone and drive from it way more than my amp. The power supply on the pedal is fine so i dont think it's that. Ive often thought about swapping the valve after reading the threads on here, but the price of a Mullard NOS put me off - especially when it does the job fine with the EH valve. I will drop Dave Hall a quick email get his opinion on it also... Thanks again
  18. Hey there, just a quick query at this point – I use a DHA VT1 EQ bass almost exclusively, either through an amp or direct into the PA through the XLR. Within the last month whenever I play through the pedal there is now a background noise where there wasn’t before. Its not a Buzz or a Hum or an electrical noise, it sounds more like the pedal is constantly ‘breathing out’??? This is the same through the PA and the amp, and not there when I bypass the pedal. As this is my first prolonged experience with valve equipment im not sure if this is normal. Ive had the pedal over a year now, and this breathing sound has only developed, like I say, in the last month. Just from reading other posts about valves it seems that a pre-amp valve is quite hard to break, (electro harmonix fitted as standard) and the tone of the pedal has not changed, so my question is really is this normal once valves have been ‘broken in’???? Or could it be something else in the pedal?? Any info would be appreciated. cheers
  19. Hey there, I installed a SPB-3 as a replacement for a SX pickup, I honestly didnt think it was much of an improvement when i did it, however a year later it broke due to moisture in the windings - when i took it out and went back to the SX pickup for a gig i couldnt believe how much i was missing in every way from the mix!! Ive found this with other pick-ups ive replaced aswell, its when you go back to what you had you realise what the new pickup does!! At the minute i have a EMG select P bass pickup that i got for £15 as a stop-gap till xmas, which you could do alot worse than, but think i will be joining you in a Kent Hot vintage P soon... Andy
