1.
Listen to the Doctor! One thing occurred to me reading these replies; too much choice is a bad thing!!
It's true - 'video shop syndrome ' I call it. If you walk into a shop that has a dozen DVD's to choose from you come back with one well pleased. If you walk into blockbuster where there's a thousand you come back with bugger all. I've always seen a point to having several differing basses. Why not - it's our brass and nice to have a choice - plenty of tools in the tool box etc. BUT........... It can be wrong to think of them as 'spares' if you have a strong weapon of choice. The natural spare for your weapon of choice is one exactly the same. I'm pleased I have different basses and I enjoy their differences - I suppose if Dave Gilmour rang me and said 'Pratt's lived up to his name and isn't coming , get your arse on this plane for the next 18 months ' I'd be out looking for true backups to the instruments I'd want to use. I have a thing about 'spares' anyway - was ranting about it to our guitarist t'other day. Mains lead's , we were on about. Where's the sense in having one 12 ft long and a 'spare' in the case that's 8 ft long?? That's worse than no spare at all - if you've run the bloody thing out more than 8ft 6" from the wall socket what use is the smaller one when the 12fter fails??? - plus you have a false sense of confidence because you think you have a 'spare'.
2. Just bought an Ampeg BA115T (with the tube pre-amp) to do small bar gigs with Dr B (fed up with lugging the rig into small venues) Got a good online deal with Sounds Live - they've quite a few discounts on Ampeg tackle but the stock's getting low. Good - warm , basic tone and enough volume for the job to be tackled. It's a little deep to be carried comfortably with the single strap handle so I might put side handles on it - plus the kickback is more like a flylandingonitback! Super sensetive. Not overkeen on the siting of the power socket either. Other than that - well happy. Anybody else got one? Partic if anyone's 'upgraded' the valve - be interesting to hear about the results of doing that.
3. I keep life simple. I use any of 5 basses regulary - some passive , some active , some high output , some less etc. I know pretty much from memory where to set the gain for each and that's all I do. The master stays the same and I get the same volume. I have the eq on the GK set pretty flat and I leave it there. All my basses sound different and I like that - I want each one to sound individual , otherwise why have numerous basses?? It follows that I'm more likely to use bass A than bass B for a particular job because it's sound suits the job better. Knob twiddling ... in most cases (only an opinion) you twiddle the sound worse.Get an amp with a core sound you really like without having to swing on the knobs - tweak on the basses tone knobs if you must - then get on with making music. That's how I do it anyway.
4. I have an original badass - commonly known as a badass 1 - in chrome. Used but good. You'll have to do a search for any dimensions you might want because I don't have it near me to measure. There's also a sticky about badass in general in the (I think) repairs forum. If you want it - it's £30
5.
(I think I am getting the bug for building.... still it's cheaper than bikes and cars)....
How about a heavily laquered, natural , active no-pickguard Jazz with a pup swing pot rather than 2 vols and a graphite Precision neck. Have a fair bit of a Status feel to it I'd have thought.

Dummy Pedal

There are lots of reasons to use effects pedals - and just as many not to. I can even think of several reasons to own a dummy pedal. None of the reasons above include 'because the guitarist wants me to'. Tell him to wind his neck in.
7. Ridiculously quick payment and much pleasantry from the thorny one.
8.
Hope your trip goes well this weekend. Bit of sunshine too - nice!
Blacked out people carrier waiting at the airport - Ampeg SVT and an 8x10 - bikini clad strumpets (law of averages says at least some of them must have a 'daddy' complex) and all the 5 star nosebag I can trough ..........I'll manage mate , thanks !!!!!
9. Ah - you're serious then , Dave. You sure did have an issue or 2 with the MB last Friday. Odd because I've heard you use it many times problem free. After our chat I've been searching 'Orange Terror' all over t'internet and I'd be inerested to hear of any frst hand use too.
10.
Good God, is the gig on the Moon?
Lagoa - Portugal.
11. It's yellow. It works fine. It looks good. It's not being used. It's £15 plus postage. Now Sold
12. For next Sunday's gig we have to set off at 2.30 in the morning !!!!
13. God - how many gigs did I do with one of these? Hundreds I should think. Fretmeister has it now as I went headless. Photo of me on stage with one in front of me as I type. Wonderful to play - plenty of tonal variation......... Some may say 'entry level' Status and those of us who've owned one will have a little knowing smile to ourselves if they do. Somebody buy this - it will not disappoint you.
14. Look - Dude wants a double neck and isn't ashamed to say a lot of it's for the image - good for you son. Let's help him out and when he's done - I want a go! So - not sure how deft you are at the old woodwork lark but I , for one , would think tring to cut down and glue 2 bodies together sounds like a world of grief. I have seen it done , but by pro's. Wondering if someone like Prosebass could knock you the body up - sure there's others. I would think transporting it might be a headache - as you're a player you've got to think about that. Lighter weight M/Cs - smaller bridges - keeping the electrics down to a minimum - all will help with the weight - as will as wide a strap as you can get your hands on. I think you accept it'll be heavy and crack on or give up the idea. The idea of a single a/b toggle is sound , you seem to like a fairly simple sound so I'd go for one pup for each neck wired through a P style tone and vol. In fact I have the stock single coil pup from my 54P reish going begging - you pull this body off one way or another and it's yours , gratis.
15.
its not that much smaller really, very suttle. It plays like a dream. Im so lucky Eude wanted something differant, I was spec'ing up a shuker very similer to this anyways, I just wanted a blue maple top, maple fretboard and a BAii but now ive played this, I wouldnt change a thing about it. The scale makes it quite a bit easyer to get around the frets too. Edit: Id edit the spelling mistakes but im iliterate and a lil drunk
Nice trio - very versatile. You'll regret letting the red 'ray' float away though - you mark my words!!!
16. Who needs a band? I do. I don't feel 'complete' unless I've got a crowd of people telling me I'm wonderful. Insecurity I suppose.
17. Not really bothered for anyone else's basses - I did miss out on a chance to by Noddy Holder's Hi-Watt head which would have been nice. Be nice to to own a Fender from Oct 61 - same month I was born.
18. Thankyou for taking the trouble - I'd like to add my voice to those who regard your excellent affort as sticky worthy. I shimmed my Precision exactly like this 20 years ago and never a hitch/problem - except I used a specialist material for the shim available from Embassyregalfagpacket dot com!
19. Snort coke off a mucky bird's arse. If there's no mucky bird available - I go to the nearest other pub , sip shandy , smoke a cig and generally stretch my arms and legs a bit. Anywhere quiet really. Our drummer texts his family sitting in his car and our guitar player wanders about being grumpy. It doesn't happen too often these days - just at gigs that are out of our comfort zone in some way or other. We never talk about the gig after about an hour before it starts. Never. Kiss of death - you end up altering something in the set and then making a pig's ear of it.
20. Silly Love Songs - Wings The lyric makes me cringe but the bass line's been my fave warm up for years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK9QVN0bpa4
21. Yo - Adam , long time , no waffle etc. There's a Phil Jones suitcase in the classifieds. Might be worth a look. I've never tried one live but based the try outs I've had I'd happily use one. Ext cab left at home for the intimate's - maybe. I think you found , like me , that the GK micro's were a little underpowered but I know you were a fan of the sound. The MB2 is around now , I think. More bang for your buck in a tiny box but I haven't even seen one yet.
22. It looks like it wants bullying - hit it like a ginger stepchild I remember you being hardly a short fella and I can picture you charging about with this. Middle leg joints of a black and yellow insect to me mate - old sunburst P , leave me alone! Bet you now - once you put a few marks on it yourself it's a keeper. Every tool kit needs a big 'f**k off' hammer !
23. Is this still here? Shame. Potentially it's maybe the best P type bass for the money available. If posting's the problem - consider taking off the neck for shipping if both parties can agree. Much safer , smaller , more stable package and takes 5 minutes.
24. I've fitted Fender/Schallers to a bass and had to make the 2 holes. I used a 'fag packet' template to mark the drilling points and it worked very well. I also found a rebate in the hole through the headstock that the new MCs wouldn't fit through which I had to rout out with a heath robinsonish homemade router but again it worked well. Hope that info's useful - and by way of an opinion - I have Schaller M4s tuners on another bass and which the Fender/Schallers are based on and I find them superior to the F/S's.
25. http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Pickguar...asses/Tele_Bass ?? Any good? Mine's a 54 reish Blueflower P.- clear, 7 hole pickguard. I've actually added 2 screws to mine (middle of the bottom edge waist and near neck pocket lower side) as it was flappy in both places. The 7 facotry holes look the same as the 'sting' pics someone added here. Then again I made a few changes so originality's not an issue for me.
