1.
there must be some more owners on here, how about some more pics :^)
i don't think there are. I've never seen a CT owner here on Basschat. They're incredibly rare here - and are usually owned by Americans.
2. The other thing I like is there is great emphasis on keeping the body as thin as possible (hence the raised bit where the controls are). A thin-bodied bass feels so much nicer than some big Fender lump.
3. The carving and thought put into how an instrument relates to the human body...that's what i admire. Just simple things like the way the lower horn is carved on the back. It's all designed in harmony with human dimensions.
4. I finally played one early this year. The owner claimed it was once played by Stan Clarke in RTF and had been purchased for £23,000 by a rich girlfriend (I didn't know whether to believe him or not). Truly astonishing instrument in terms of balance, feel, dimensions and ergonomic brilliance. When you play one of these instruments you suddenly realise why the design is so influential - in fact Carl Thompson is the MOST influential designer of the bass guitar after Leo Fender. Some people don't understand - they think it's all about scrolls, ornate woods and cosmetics, etc. Er, no I don't have one, I'm afraid but I admire this example on Talkbass:
5.
Though a lot of people aren't on Facebook, so you'll need something else too.
Virtually everyone who follows music or plays in a band is on FB now. The ones that aren't find it difficult to organise gigs and let their fans know what's going on. Musicians who resist it seem to have some misguided notion that's it's somehow more vulgar to self promote and 'like' in the way FB protocol demands ...but it's really nothing at all.
6. Surely Facebook is your best bet? Everything else looks dead and goes out of date incredibly quickly. You need interaction/ likes/ comments. People need to know what the stage times are and all that and will want to ask questions. It's best to interact with people interested in your band- not stay removed.
7. It's true fretless basses have disappeared from music shops. There are very few contemporary bass heroes and no fretless players in the limelight. Fretless basses are doomed.
8.
Nice tone and playing. I always got to this clip when I need to listen to some nice fretless. http://youtu.be/ycN9x_5MqHQ
Good player but a nasty, thin and fizzy piezo pickup sound on this one. I've never heard a piezo pickup that sounds good. Much prefer magnets.
9.
Quite taken by contoured jazz style shapes like these
You mean a jazz bass with more rounded horns and shoulder?
10. Depends what you want. 'Sonething boutiquey ' sounds a bit vague. What body shapes are you into?
11. Who have you looked at so far?
12.
Yes, it's odd that the reviews so far haven't mentioned things like National Health when guessing at the influences. I feel like I can hear much more of that sort of thing (National Health, perhaps the riffier Hugh-Hopper era Soft Machine or touches of Henry Cow) in the music than I can the more conventional US jazz/fusion influences that the reviewers like to mention. I'm enjoying the album - it has a really pleasing purposeful/minimalist quality about it, no superfluous noodling at all. Which I suppose is almost a post-punk aesthetic...
That's a fair summary
13.
Go on...
Hmmm. Not sure I can be arsed.
14. Oh, this is one of my favourite subjects. Wondering whether to say anything.....
15.
I like that... sort of Brand X meets National Health.
Both bands I like!

19. Hi Guys Here's the new album promo for my band, Prescott. Hope you enjoy it! PS. I wish I could get Basschatters along to our gigs but they won't come...for some reason, despite lots of bass action
20. I have a terrible problem with wax build up but have found bicarbonate of soda drops work. Do one ear at a time - one drop only per day. Wait till one ear clears then start the next one. It may take up to three weeks to work. Don't over apply the drops- you'll make a mushy mess of the earwax and run the risk of deafness for weeks. Whatever you do, don't use ear candles. They are incredibly dangerous.
