2. I loved my SMX rig. Only sold it due to my dodgy old back!
  3. I put my Ashdown neo 2x10 on an Aguilar 1x12........Plenty of everything! ... but watch those mids. As has been said many times, what sounds good 'solo' often gets completely lost in a band mix.
  4.
This is primarily aimed at those of you who own/have previously owned an Eden Nemesis head (pref the blue NA320 or NA650 models) - does yours make your speakers thump when switching on and off? Mine does, worryingly loud at that, and I want to know if it needs a quick bit of TLC/attention?
I owned a Nemesis RS700 and it also did that. After some research on the Eden forum, I found out that they all do it!
  5.
The Big One is the one I'm really interested in, but in terms of mass, sound and construction etc I could learn a lot from the Compact I suspect....
Hi Conan, The Compact sounds nothing like The BigOne (other than they are both bass cabs). Chalk and cheese.
  6.
Yes.
Thank you for a simple, no nonsense answer.
  7.
I looked into it a while ago as I'm building a BFM jack and decided in the end to go for two 1x10s rather than a 2x10. Two 1x10 cabs sound the same as one 2x10 but I think I will find two smaller cabs more useful. Not sure about the port sizes though!
Thanks. .... anymore for anymore?
  8. Driving home from a gig last night, I was thinking.... If you took a 2x10 cab and made two 1x10 cabs out of it, each being half the size (and having half the port area) of the 2x10 .......would it sound the same?

    12" Cabs.
Play with it in WinISD, and see what you think.
I haven't really got the time (or inclination) to get into modelling, etc. Hence my idea to basically copy the Aggie design (which works fine) and fit suitable drivers. From what I have read over at TBass the Deltalite ii 2512 is looking favourite.... so far.

    12" Cabs.

I have been thinking for a while about building myself a pair of 12" cabs. Something along the lines of my Aggie GS112nt, but with more definition and punch. I don't think that I like tweeters as I always use my 2x10 neo with the tweeter off. I am torn between using either Deltalite 2512 or Kappalite 3012 drivers, and wondering.... What is the 'real world' difference between these drivers in terms of tone and loudness? Also.... How would either of these drivers compare with the standard unit fitted to the Aggie? (I have read that some people have upgraded their GS's with the Deltalites). Thoughts and opinions please.
  11. As you are relying on your Bass and Pedal for your sound, maybe an amp that reproduces what you put into it? A MarkBass LM2 would do the job. .... and they are LOUD!

    Casapete Feedback!

I bought a set of new DBE strings from Pete. Arrived the next day. Top guy to deal with!
  13.
yes it is.
Doesn't sound like a fault with the amp......?
  14.
is that the "EQ Flat" knob to the right of the EQ?
Yes, if I remember correctly. Is your sound 'clean' when you play without the rest of the band, or at lower levels?
  15. All I have ever done on a boomy stage is just cut some of the bass. Easy to do on your SMX with the EQ 'bass & treble' balance control.
  16. Paul, I fairly sure that if you turn the knob marked 'Solid state & Valve' to solid state, the valve isn't in the circuit. Worth a try? Also, as far as compression goes.... Don't turn it past the 12 o'clock position. (Or turn it off and see if that helps). Thirdly, Try it with the EQ set flat, and the EQ balance in the 12 o'clock position. You could also try turning off the EQ section. Good luck.
  17.
SERVICE?
Yep! (If you are sure the problem is with the amp).
  18.
everything i play just seems to be muddy and inaudible to me,
Hmmmm.... Not my experience with my SMX. Sounds like something is amiss!
  19. Jon bought my ABM500. Top bloke to deal with, absolutely no messing! Thanks and enjoy the amp.
  20.
In fact I wish I'd never sold it. Keep yours. 80 quid? What an absurd bargain. Well done
+1 I still regret selling mine, and would certainly jump at another one for that kind of money.
  21. Paul, When I was using my SMX, I rarely (if ever) touched my favoured EQ settings. I would tend to dial into a room (if needed) using the 'bass/treble' control that is next to the EQ section. When I wanted a touch of distortion I would use a pedal and leave the amp alone.
  22. On a serious note.... The SMX series are fantastic amps (IMO). Built to last and very reliable. Personally, I think they are the best of the Trace range. I owned one for about 10 years and it never missed a beat.
  23.
go on then
80 quid, used notes in a brown envelope?
