1. Pics. of 2x10...... As you can see, the cab has been fitted with casters in the past. It also has a strap handle fitted to one side. The Ashdown badge can be fitted either way to allow the cab to be used horizontally or vertically.
  2.
Hi Would like to see some pix. Why are you selling it? I'm seriously looking for something like the Eden or the new SWR Headlite.
I love the Eden tone, but need a touch of dirt for my live sound. I can get the sound I need just as easily with my LM2 and VT pedal.... making the Eden redundant. (Which is a shame because it is a beautiful amp). p.s. I only sell good gear, check my feedback.

    12" Cabs.
.... very nice! Have you thought about making them for others?
I could be persuaded... Although I openly make no claim to be an acoustic scientist, and had some help with the port sizes from a fellow BC'er (Thanks Stevie). I basically 'cloned' a proven design and improved it with additional bracing, quality drivers, etc. To anyone thinking of building their own, it has to be said... It is not a cheap option and is VERY time consuming to do properly.

    12" Cabs.

    Finished! .... and sounding good.
  9. Something with more 'mids' will help you hear yourself, but.... I agree, get them to turn down!!!!
  10.
I tried using that stuff on a homemade cab last year. It was sh*t, looked sh*t, ripped easily and I took it off Sorry, no use I know...
Actually, your reply is a lot of use, thanks. It will save me lots of time.... and thinking I am missing a trick on how to fit it nicely. I'll chuck it in the bin!
  11. I don't have the depth to use batten, as I designed the cabs to use a metal grille. If I go with cloth, it will have to be on a 6mm board.
  12. I bought some of this http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=ADH...semode=category to use as a temporary measure, but it looks awful as I cant get it to sit flat. I was thinking of ironing it under a damp towel. Has anyone had any success with it? I haven't decided whether to go for metal grilles or cloth. If I go with cloth, would a piece of 6mm ply with the speaker and port holes cut out of it do the job as a supporting frame? (I have searched the net and can't find much info on making grilles).
  13.
I did some tests on punched metal grilles and found that they caused a a very slight reduction in HF.
That's what my ears were telling me, I just wondered if I was imagining it!
  14. I have been looking into what type of grilles to fit onto my homemade cabs, when... I noticed that some grille cloths are advertised as 'acoustically transparent'. This led me to wonder how much a punched steel grille affects the sound of the average bass cab? Some steel grilles are listed as being 40% free air, so this must have an affect.
  15. I use a Sansamp VT with my LM2. I was pulling my hair out trying to get the sound I wanted. The VT pedal was an instant cure!

    12" Cabs.
Yes, in my opinion, they have. Although because of the "added" hi mids, the cabs may sound lighter in the lows. When you lower the hi mids a bit you'll discover that the lows are still there
Thanks. The possible lack of lows was my only concern with the Deltalites, the GS driver gave me all the bottom end I needed with my 2x10 adding clarity and attack. I have used the new cabs at home and they certainly sound a lot brighter than the GS. They 'seem' to do the job of my 1x12 + 2x10 set-up. .... A gig on Saturday will be the proof.
The DeltaLites are really great in the GS cabs!!!! I really miss mine
Did the Deltalites have as much bottom end as the original drivers?

    12" Cabs.
they look great , what wood are you using?
Thanks. 12mm Ply for the cabs. 12mm x 40mm Ply and 20 x 20mm pine for the bracing. The aim was to get the cabs as 'dead' sounding as I could, while keeping within my weight target. I have tested quite a few cabs recently and they vibrate like a washing machine on the spin cycle! These don't!

    12" Cabs.

Here are a few pics. of my cab build... I haven't saved any weight over the GS112NT due to the 10 metres of bracing, 100 screws and lots of glue! Although as they will use neos, they will weigh in at approx. 30lbs. each with the drivers fitted. This is my first cab build and woodwork isn't really my thing, so I decided to build them how I build my bikes and cars..... STRONG.
  20.
I did. I sent him to a site that explains in great detail the hows and whys of building speakers, including free plans for cabs that are better than 99% of the commercial cabs made. That's assuming that Alex hasn't yet breached 1% market share.
I would second reading the Greenboy FearFul stuff.... lots of info and tips on there!
  21. Just to add a bit of weight to the 'give it a go' camp..... I had a couple of hours spare this afternoon, so finished building my 1x12. It has taken me approx. 12 hours so far and is all done except the covering and grille. Total cost was about £175 and I have enough wood left to build another cab. I was aiming for something similar to the GS112NT, but with more clarity in the mids and some top end. If it pans out, I will build another and have a lightweight modular rig. Having had a quick play through it, I think it will be the business! (I might need to do some tweaking to the ports, if anyone would like to volunteer some advice. ...and I haven't even looked at Winisd. (yet). Personally, I think there is a great deal of satisfaction to be had from designing and building stuff, whether it be bass gear, cars, motorcycles or DIY around the house.
  22.
You could also consider the option of taking an existing cab and pimping it. You can upgrade just about any commercial cab by fitting better drivers, bracing it, fitting damping, Speakons, etc. It saves you all the hassle of building a cab and sourcing the bits. I did it with this Laney 2 x 10, bought on Basschat, which I have fitted out with a pair of second-hand Volt drivers. I had to enlarge the holes for the drivers, brace it and fit a couple of rear ports. Despite its compact size, I would expect it to spank most 2 x 10s on the market.
Not wishing to hi-jack this thread, but..... How did you work out the port sizes? I am asking this as someone who doesn't know the difference between a cab tuned to 40hz or 50hz.
  23. If (like me) you don't understand the graphs, try this route.... Decide on what you want to achieve in terms of weight and sound, then take a look at the Emminence website. They have designs for their drivers, with box and port sizes. This should hopefully take the guesswork out of it??? I am just finishing building my first cab..... an Aggie GS112 clone using the Emminence data. Cutting the hole for the driver was straightforward, if you have a half-decent jigsaw and a pair of compasses. p.s. I am not suggesting that Emminence are any better or worse than any other drivers.
  24.
I should have asked before I put my £600 bid in. Luckily someone outbid me with a few minutes to go Panic over...
£600... A lucky escape?
  25.
5) Get a drummer who can restrain himself
If you find two..... can I have one please?
