  1. I have little pocket book of guitar chords by Ulf Goran Ahslund (anyone remember him?) The best bit is on each of far too many chords it gives their (impossible) fingerings and inversions for guitar accompanied by a little dude with a 'smiley' face that reflects the character of the chord e.g. happy, melancholy, apprehensive, totally confused...
  2. And the root of 50% of anti-ukelele prejudice...
  3. Don't worry, I find this all confusing. There seem to be four things that all use similar nomenclature: Intervals - the absolute distances between notes. Scale degrees - defining notes by their relationship to the root of a scale. Chord notes - similar to the above but using inversions so the 'major third' of a chord can be a 'minor sixth' below the root. Chord relationships - I, II, III, IV etc. named for how their root note relates to the root of the scale that is the key of the piece. Blaaargh....
  4. I'm serious, some things dissolve better in alcohol, a polar solvent, others better in white spirit which has a totally non-polar. Acetone has a different polarity to alcohol so it can work were neither of the others do. Stronger solvents fall into the same classes but are more likely to damage the substrate. Those three will cope with most everyday challenges.
  5. Appreciated but if you need a 300W amp and have to use it for practice, then you can probably accept a bit of fan noise as a consequence of that. But if I was short of cash I'd get a cheap practice amp from Crack Convertors or if short of space a Blackstar Fly Bass.
  6. Then it goes from major third to minor. How strange the change...
  7. Oh dear. It's picked up a dose of Corona...
  8. As a general; rule of thumb, if meths won't get it off, white spirit will and vice versa.
  9. If you can hear the fan on a 300W amp, why have you got a 300W amp?
  10. I wouldn't want to run that amp hard with passive cooling.
  11. *Or as a friend of mine once said, "He's run out of sh1te!"
  12. My understanding: Strictly intervals are counted up from the root, so note below it doesn't exist. Anything past the octave is made up. Seriously, I think a 'third' is really the interval not the note so E to C is a minor 6th or an augmented fifth (I think...) and yes above the octave they continue 9, 10 etc. But in chords rules get bent because it doesn't make sense when the root note isn't the lowest note i.e. it's an inversion (as far as I can tell). For me adding the low 'E' to a C chord would be interpreted as doubling up the third with a low bass. I would write C(E) rather than Cm6 as that would be C-E-A♭ rather than E-C-E-G I think you mean the B? B is the Major 7th, B♭ is the minor 7th. This is at the limits of my theory knowledge... I did go to this page to confirm down to E was a minor 6th... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_(music)
  13. I thought it was Harry Maguire. I must pay attention...
  14. There's no right or wrong response, as everyone is having to make their own decisions. In principle the Musicians Union could canvas its members and then promote a policy. However, most small bands, many playing for pleasure not profit, are not members. Also, big pub chains could adopt positive policies and set an example.
  15. It's a slow train coming, and when it gets here there will be blood on the tracks. *Bob, Bob Heath and Richins Park.
  16. Good point (although rather more than 50!) It's the equivalent of asking 20-something me to appreciate George Formby and Glenn Miller...

  18. Ha! That's exactly what I did. I still have to swap the G. To be honest I haven't got over the way the strings stretch, one of them easily dropping a quarter tone in five minutes 😞
  19. Icky. The worst bits of an Alembic plus the tackiest neck inlay ever... <Googles> Egad! It is an Alembic... Do they write scripts for QVC in their spare time?
