  1. It's amazing what you find written inside raffle prizes! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  2. p.s. For the avoidance of confusion or accidently upsetiing anyone:Markbass amps and cabs are fabulous too! That bass isn't mine, it's a silent bass on loan to me. Designed to have headphones plugged in directly it is very, very, very, bright. I should have put my proper bass though the Markbass stack as well....
  3. As another newbie at these things can I add to @petecarlton's comments. A very friendly afternoon in excellent welcoming company. Was able to play basses costing 20x what mine does (blues scales only so not doing them justice), and heard what mine sounds like with a decent amp, cab and player @DHC Bass. Annoyed I didn't get to play with some of the little amps, but I can safely say that this sounded exactly as bright/brittle as I expected!! @MoJoKe - sorry for making you grimace ☺️ (see comment below as to why, it's not the stack! )
  4. Actually it was Jack who won it, @SpondonBassed came up and collected it. Photo to follow when I have figured out where this phone put it πŸ€”
  5. Kick-off is about 1pm, what time is kick-out?
  6. Those stickers usually work on foreheads... I have no bass-related raffle prizes to bring, and have run out of time to bake the intended cake. Will have to be something shop bought 😞
  7. In case people haven't seen theme before, these are a great way to keep the power tidy, especially on temporary stages. I have no affiliation to B&Q, I'm just a sound engineer who hates messy cabling. https://www.diy.com/departments/masterplug-5-socket-13-a-extension-lead-15-m-blue/244075_BQ.prd
  8. We all have to start somewhere. πŸ˜‰
  9. Just seen the photos from the NW bash: Now I am really looking forward to Saturday πŸ˜€. Must learn more than two riffs though ...
  10. Just got the pulse joke... My mate with the silent bass can't make it, as his wife has got him tickets to a comedy festival that weekend. I'm hoping to borrow the bass off him anyway because, we'll, that's more interesting 😁
  11. Best of luck!! I still haven't played in public yet, though my target was to have played in church by this Easter. Lack of practice time in my case, simple as that. And the fact that I had to train up a new sound engineer to take over from me so I can play bass πŸ˜‰. I have managed to practice a couple of times with the band, and it's totally different to playing on your own or just practicing with a tutor or guitarist - way more fun!! Do let us know how it goes. πŸ‘
  12. Yep. But try explaining that to the wife as the house fills up with more and more sub-projects! 🀣
  13. I like the idea of a self-build CNC router. πŸ˜€ But building a CNC router before I built a guitar reminds me of my uncle. He needed a very small screw to replace one that dropped out of his camera body. So he bought a lathe, then made the tooling to make the screw, then made the screw. He also decided to make Buckmeister-Fullerene in his garage, which I seem to recall required cutting up a fire extinguisher to use as a pressure vessel....
  14. Journeyman - by Jethro Tull. One day I will be able to play this. But in the mean time I just love the whole rattly, syncopated feel.
  15. For the full history of the Yamaha logos, musical and motorbike, click here: https://www.yamaha.com/en/about/history/logo/ ignore me, just spotted this further up the page. Glad I have new glasses on order.
  16. Equally excited. What is estimated start and finish times? At this rate I can imagine queues to see some people stretching on past the end time. Like those badly-organised parents' evenings we all remember
  17. A friend of mine would like to join us. If he can make it, he'll bring an Ibanez 1400, Aria Sinsonido silent travel bass and an Ashdown amp. I can also provide extension leads and cake πŸ™‚
  18. Trust me, I don't own a Rolex. I think it was just pressing on the tendons slightly, and as I am still getting the hang of things any slight problem is a bigger one.
  19. Simple question, do you take off your watch to play bass? I was struggling with some fretting a couple of weeks ago, and my tutor suggested I take my watch off. I'm right handed so wear a watch on the left wrist as traditional. It's not on tight at all, and I couldn't feel it restricting movement , but I was surprised to find that removing it did seem to make a difference. So now I take off my watch to play, What are anyone else's experiences?
  20. I mis-read this and added in a comma which completely changed the meaning and the resulting mental picture: " he wears a black glove and dresses, a bit like Chairman Mao."

    Hello

Hello and welcome! I started last year, aged 51, At this rate we'll be starting an "over 50's learners" sub- forum 🀣 Best advice, play every day. Even if it's only a few minutes noodling. It takes a long time to build muscle memory, and you lose it quickly. Two weeks of not playing due to work/life/tiredness sets you back two months. Or it least it does me ☹ Lots of friendly folks here though, join in.
