1. Cheers guys, I'll pass this info on. The guy is being cool about it so hopefully I won't end up reversing the sale and taking a wack on the sale.
2. Folks, I have just sold a cheapish J&D Fretless bass via you tube, the buyer has just mailed me to say there appears to be an earthing issue (detailled below) the bass was fine when it left me so not sure if its had a knock in transit, there are no apparent knocks on the bass to testify to that. Any ideas as to what may be the problem and the best way to tackle it? when plugged in, when I turn the lowest knob (if the guitar is propped up vertically - I assume it controls the high end pick-up), there's an electronic buzz. When I touch the tuning pegs or the exit point of the lead, the buzz disappears, so it must be an earth thing. I have tried different amps, different leads and also checked that my fender strat works fine through all leads and amps. Cheers, Steve.
3. Squire every time for me, I picked up a 'mint' VM one for £155 stuck on a Gotoh Bridge a Pup cover and new Fender knobs for less than £50 and it sounds and looks as good as most basses three times its price.
4. My attitude was if it's not great then probably worth it in parts. From a more recent mail from the seller it has a Fender Jazz neck attached (MIM) I have a Gotoh Bridge I might add to it, its a back up so might be ok. Will let you know how she fares.
5. I was after a very cheap Fender P, was toying with a Squire and came across a bit of a Franken Squire. I bid and won it for £175 based on the following advert: This is my sorted Squire Precision. The neck has been replaced with a jazz width neck £95, and the crap factory fitted pick ups replaced with seymor Duncan quarter pounders £165. I didn't want to hack away at the body, so still passive as opposed to ABP'S. It did have tuning issues, so I replaced the pegs with Schallers which never lose tune £125, see the pic for the pro replacement job. I couldn't get the action right, so i took it to a pro to set up who shimmed the neck, and now it's got the lowest action without any buzz or rattle. the band i am in now need an active sound, so this has to go (i now play a stingray and custom precision with active seymor's). This bass is too good to sit in my spare room and needs playing. Anyone is welcome to come over and give it a try. The hardware cost more than the bass, and i've been guilty of spending too much on it. For sale at less than it cost me to sort, but i've no use for it any more. I have restrung it with rotosound 105's recently, so there's another £25. Great for the passive jazzer or someone wanting an upgrade for their second bass. The case isn't included, but i will post it in a ritter gig bag, that's another £20. A small ding below the jack not visable from the front. Worth a punt?
6. Sadly I sold a mint 700 and a SB1000 a few months back, I struggled to shift em.
7. Blimey this is a rave from the grave!
8. Welcome aboard, I have a good friend who emigrated to Sterling Heights in Michigan many years ago.
9. Just bought a lovely Fretless Fender Jazz from Woodyratm, a super smooth transaction and the bass was as described. Top seller! and would do again.
10. Derek Forbes Mick Karn Michael Dempsey
11. Blimey, I used to own one of these, it was previously Martin Kemps of Spandau Ballet and I sold it for a few hundred quid..... The things we do! ;-)
12. Best you don't bid on it then
Sorry but that blue is hideous :b
13. I have often thought about having a refinsh job done, I personally would pay for it to get done by a pro.
14. Cheers guys, seems strange to leave the grounding plate 'on display' takes away from the finish?
15. Never seen the strip on display before, is this standard for Japanese models?
16. Folks, I have been inquiring regarding a Japanese Jazz on the bay, the seller seemed legite until I questioned the strange material running from the bridge to the bridge pup I asked him what it was and got the reply below: Hi! This is copper wire for the Solder(ground). It is well used for a jazz base. Of course, this is original. Thank you so much! Ignoring the broken English, I have never seen any kind of grounding on display, his add mentions him doing some refurb work himself I think I shall steer clear but such a shame as its a dream finish in a lovely shade of blue. Thoughts?
17. Folks, I am considering purchasing a lovely Japanese Jazz from a guy in Japan, the bass is currently £500 with a buy it now about the same price, but I am worried about being ripped off or possible extra charges by way of Import Tax etc. I have mailed the guy as the price he quoted for shipping was just £20 to the UK and when I questioned it he said the actual price for shipping is £89 but he will only charge me £20 of that? Seems to good to be true? I took the liberty of mailing a person from the UK who had previously bought from him and he said the guy is kosher but also questioned the shipping cost to me as it seems very low. Anyone on here bought from Japan before and has an idea of possible pitfalls in terms of extra costs?
18. Derek Forbes and Mick Karn, loved early eighties late 70's Synth based pop and they always seemed to have LEAD instruments that were the Bass as opposed to the 6 string instruments.
19. Sold to me.. Looking forward to a good old noodle!
20. No love? Off to the bay it is then....
21. I did think about using 75's but as you say the spacing would be an issue although probably negligible. I am not sure which pups to go for I might just chance my arm with the Di Marzio's.
Regarding pickups, I had a pair of US Fender Vintage 75s via ebay sent from this guy http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/joshmsr/ Even with postage (he will combine this for multiple items) it came in pretty cheap and they are the same pups as in the US 75RI. Just in case you're not aware though, part of the sound is the 70s pup spacing which the VM Jazz doesn't have. You'd have to get the body routed and then work out what to do with the hole! (Maybe something a little bit unusual like the Wizard Combo?)
22. Morning bump, would consider any trades along the lines of Fender P (MIM, Squire, Jap) she is a lovely example of a fretless and would suit either someone who wants to give a fretless a go or a more experienced player. Would also consider a straight sale, £175 shipped I guess is fair.
23. A lovely looking J&D Fretless for trade finished in Maple and Nato striped neck through body active bass. Beautifully grained Ovangkol body and superb low noise pickups, solid brass bridge and black hardware. Fingeboard is Rosewood on maple. Currently fitted with Nylons for that super Mwwwa sound. In good condition and no marks to shout about. Would consider a trade against a MIM P or even a Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified Squier. More pics to follow.....
