  1. Just had the pleasure of meeting Alex, aka @Lfalex v1.1, when he came over to test - and buy - my Schroeder 21012L cab.

Alex is a very easy person to deal with, good comms throughout and great to chat all things bass with for an hour or two.

He's also a fine player too!

Alex has been part of this community since the Bass World days of the mid Noughties, so he's one of the good guys IMHO... So, I'm more than happy to recommend him to one and all here on Basschat.

Thanks Alex, and I hope you enjoy the cab.. 👍😊🎶

Is that third driver wired up?  Does it have a magnet? I therfore surmise it to be an ABR (auxiliary bass radiator)

They perform the same function as a port, but with the advantages of mass-damping and lack of port turbulence.

I should imagine that its positioning will a) put it's output back in phase with the 2 main drivers.  The void in front may be a slight version of horn-loading, which further improves the coupling between the ABR and the air in the outside world.

    Hi @Lfalex v1.1

Yes, the 12" driver is wired up and it has a magnet, as can be seen in the picture above (it's the one above the picture of the crossover?).

There a downward facing ABR in my Mesa Boogie Walkable combo, and my old Celestion Ditton 15s hifi speakers had passive ABRs in them, so I'm familiar with that technology.

But in this Schroeder cab, all the drivers are wired up.

@silverfoxnik you complete and utter barsteward you! 😤

Fancy putting this up for sale at such a tempting price in the same week the last of the parts arrived for my basschat 2x12 cab build.
I used to own the carpet covered version of this cab before redundancy forced the sale some ten years ago. This cab punches way way way above its weight, and has the best dispersion of any cab I’ve played through and the only cab I can genuinely say I regret selling.
Good luck with the sale but I’m warning you now, you’ll regret it later!

    🤔

I think it might have been me you sold it to.... 🙄

So I'm a complete and utter barsteward on two counts! 😂

But thanks for the glowing review of these cabs.. They are very, very good!

  4. Hi Folks,

Schroeder 21012L 1000w, 4 ohm Bass Cab, with fitted Hotcovers padded cover, for sale at £SOLD .

Schroeder cabs are hand built to the highest quality by Jorg Schroeder in the USA and you would be looking at somewhere around $1,000, plus import & shipping costs to buy a new and equivalent model.

This is the lightweight 4ohm cab rated at 1,000 watts.

As can be seen in the photos, it's loaded with two front mounted 10” drivers and a 'folded' 12” neodymium driver, plus a 200w titanium bullet tweeter (adjustment for the tweeter is mounted on the rear input plate).

    The cabinet weighs approx 49lbs (23kilo). Dimensions = 60 cms x 62 cms x 42 cms.

Input is either via standard jack or by neutrik twist connector.

Also included is a heavily padded HotCovers cover (over £50 new).

The cab is working perfectly - drivers, horn and electronics are all good and doing what they should.

I would describe the exterior condition of the cab as 'good' , though it's clearly been used, as the photos show.

I bought this at the start of the year on Facebook and have enjoyed using it at rehearsals and gigs where it's performed admirably; it's loud and punchy, and the unique design means it fills the room with ease!

However, I’ve decided to put it up for sale as I want to go back to using bass cabs with ceramic magnets, as I just prefer the tone of them for some reason (even though that means carrying around a cab that's a lot heavier than this one).

I know that makes me a Luddite, but hey - I can live with it! 😁

Anyway, enough of my foolishness... This is a great cab and priced to sell to someone who I hope will make good use of it.

Collection from Potton, Central Bedfordshire much preferred though fully insured shipping (at buyers expense) is not totally out of the question if that's the only way to get a deal done.

And I'm also happy to drive up to an hour from my location to do a classic 'Basschat meet up' somewhere mutually convenient.

Trials welcome here in Potton and there will be plenty of tea/coffee on tap for you whilst you test the cab out with your own amp and bass to your heart's content.

Any questions, please ask here or send me a PM.

    Thanks for looking. 👍😊

    Cheers

    Nik

  5. Echoing all the positive comments made here about @Lozz196...

I just had the pleasure of catching up with him for the first time since one of the pre-pandemic South East Bass Bashes, purpose being to buy a guitar stand from him.

What can I say; top bloke, great to deal with and an all round  Basschat legend...

T'was a brief, but great bass related conversation as ever, and here's to the next one Lozz! 🙂

Thanks for the stand btw - which is perfect..

And for the quick look at your very nice Fender JMJ Mustang, which is uber-cool!   As Paula Yates once said about Prince :

    "small, but perfectly formed." 😁

See you at the next one...

    Nice.

Very subjective and not what everyone else experiences. The QC is definitely the future. Safer. More adaptive. As a bass player this is even more so. And having to move your amps into another part of the venue shows how toxic onstage noise truly is. But thanks for proving my point even if you weren't trying. After the last 3 days of gigs, we are all just a little bit more in love with our QCs and IEMs. And after seeing this I'm so glad we ditched our amps. Maybe the guys in the video will learn to use their QCs one day and get the sound they are after. It certainly does for us.

I think that's it - this whole topic of discussion, like so many here on Basschat, is very subjective

We each have our own tastes, preferences and real-world band/rehearsals/recording /gigging situations to navigate.

If you're happy using amps and old school PA set ups with monitors - great.

If you're happy with amp modelling and IEMs - great.

It's not a contest IMHO, or it shouldn't be.

The important thing for me is that, as musicians, we can each get out there and make music to our hearts content on a regular basis, whatever way we choose to do that. And if you're lucky enough to have that going on in your life, long may that continue...

Going back to the issue of subjectivity, we had a band using amp modelling & IEMs play at my Charity's Gala Ball in March. They had a great attitude, easy load-in and load-out, nice stage set up and they played/sounded great. In fact, the bass player had a really good sound through the PA.

Having said all that, to my ears at least, the overall sound and vibe was a bit tame and a bit sterile.

Did the audience notice or care?  No, I dont think so.

They were just happy to have some music to dance to...

In fact, when the band stopped, the audience continued dancing to a playlist for about another half an hour and the dance floor got busier.

As I think @BigRedX alluded to earlier, most audiences at gigs don't notice this stuff and they don't care about it either; it's only us musos who have the time or bother to talk about this sort of stuff.

And knowing Basschat as I do, I expect that we'll still be doing that in another 20 years or so, by which time the songs will all be written by AI/Chat GPT and the music and sound will be effortlessly and artificially generated out of the backside of a Robot that look like the silicon lovechild of Lewis Capaldi and Lizzo.

  7. I posted the video to show a  example whereby, very experienced musicians and sound engineers, have chosen to go back to using guitar amps - instead of the amp modellers they were using - because, in their experience and within the context of their musical setting, the guitar amps offer a tangible sonic improvement over what is currently available sonically from amp modelling products.

Their particular gigging situation is obviously more rarified than most of us ever get to experience, but nonetheless, their choice is testament to the fact that guitar amps still offer something important and unique that musicians, sound engineers and producers value.

    7 gigs in 14 days.

Some small. Some not so small. IEMs for everyone.

    Sound tech happy.

    Crowd happy.

    My back is happy.

My tone has never been better. The Quadcortex is a proven amp killer.

    Are amps dead.

    No. They have their place.

    Just not on a stage.

    Not necessarily...

Love it. I was at a gig in Barbados and realised I was standing next to a rather well know singer. She was loving the band and getting really into dancing and cheering, and the look on the singer's face - he can't have been much more than 18 - when he realised who she was was priceless. I love it when celebs act like they're not celebs 👍

    Brilliant 👍😊

Which well know singer was it Chris?
