  1. Wow - I can't believe this is up for sale @jhk

Such a powerful and brilliant sounding amp. Amazing eq, bi-amp facility, compressor... As warm and punchy as anything, and so solidly made too.

I've lost count of the number of times I heard this in action at one of the South East Bass Bashes, paired with your Yamaha 6 string.. What a sound combination that was!

Anyway, I hope you're keeping well Jon, and GLWTS! 😊

Four gigs in four days. All weddings and a ton of driving involved.

Weds - (Kent) really uneventful and reserved with most people thinking about work the following day.

Thurs - (Manchester) Friendly and enthusiastic crowd. LGBTW wedding with a really cool vibe. Had a lot of fun.

Fri - (Stratford On Avon) Bride was lovely, Groom was a grade a **** who was far more interested in getting hammered with his football mates and being as obnoxious as possible. Completely ignored his new wife all night and at the end of the night had to be carried out of the venue.

Sat - (Cambridgeshire) everything that's good about being in a wedding band. Lovely couple, great food (proper wedding cake), big enthusiastic crowd and a friendly venue. Also got to meet basschatter @silverfoxnik on the way up who has been an absolute legend and is helping me get a few (rather heavy) bits to another basschatter this week.

Time to reintroduce myself to my wife and kids today and cook some nice food and enjoy some family time.

A pleasure to meet you too @mrtcat!

Sounds like you've had a really busy 4 days, so I hope you enjoy your r&r time with your family...

I always found wedding gigs to be the weirdest of the lot when I used to do them as part of a busy functions band.. Always seemed to go from one extreme to another, with not much in between! 😁

Lovely! I much prefer these to the customs in terms of playability and tone and was fortunate to play a good few in the late ‘70s. Also good to see this has the xlr

    My sentiments too...

And like you, I've owned a number of these over the years.

Judging by the headstock, this one looks like one of the early PB or even JG models.

    Whatever, it's a stunner!

  4. Hello Basschatters,

Monday morning, post- holiday BUMP for this Ashdown classic amp...

In true Basschat style, there's something else I'm keen on acquiring, so to help me fund that I'm willing to let this go for £475 to facilitate a very quick sale.

To paraphrase my esteemed Basschat colleague @Owen

Want it, you know you do!

    😁

  5. Hi Folks,

Oops!  I've completely forgotten to bump this fantastic all valve amp up the listings recently, so in haste (as I'm my way to Gatwick Airport), this is a...

'I'm just about to go on holiday' BUMP

Back in 8 days time, but will be checking in on Basschat from time to time (as you do) from the pool side...

Obviously, I'll be a lot poorer after being on my hols with both my kids, so feel free to make me a sensible-ish offer for this fabulous sounding bass amp...

You never know - you might get lucky! 😉🍀😁

    Cheers

  6. Hi Folks,

I had the pleasure of finally meeting @Leftypeteyesterday to buy a Genz 112 cab from him.

Pete's a great person to deal with and yet another highly valued and respected member of the Basschat community, so deal with him with absolute confidence!

Thanks again Pete and all the best for now,

    Nik

I am just not a Jazz player and there's no point keeping a bass I simply don't play - however pretty it is.

This bass plays every bit as good as it looks, it's a real stunner of a bass from the lawsuit era. Lovely candy apple red with matching headstock. It's never had a scratchplate, it would seem and probably looks all the better for it. It's got all the usual Jazz bass sounds in it and it's in great condition. Weight is a reasonable 9.4lbs on the scales. It still has the original Tokai gig bag.

It's down near Portsmouth and I'd rather do some driving to meet up, rather than post it but it's not a case of collection only, though very much preferred. Shout out if you want any more information/pictures.

I had an '84 Jazz Sound back in the mid Noughties. It was a beautiful bass, which I (rather stupidly) traded with The Beedster in 2008 for a 5 string Musicman which I needed urgently at the time for the covers band I was in...

Anyway my sellers remorse aside, the point of the story is that the '83 model I had was better than a 1966 Fender Jazz that I'd owned in the 90s - that's how good these Tokai Jazz Sound basses are from that era IMHO!

Oh, and @Steve Browningis an absolutely top block and a pleasure to deal with, so you'll be in very good hands should you want to buy this bass.

    GLWTS Steve 👍😊

  8. So, I had a bit of a play with this amp for the first time in a while yesterday...

Gotta say, with the Aguilar 212 cab pictured, it makes one hell of a glorious sound - especially with a P Bass!

Loud, punchy, fat and warm tones on the one hand, which will work for just about any kind of music...

And then, just by using the mid and treble switches, you're into that gnarly, cutting straight through the mix rock/punk territory. It's full of character, this amp...

When comparing it directly with my Mesa M-Pulse 600, the Mesa is definitely the more refined and tame sounding of the 2 amps. The Ashdown is definitely more 'alive', 3-D sounding to my ears.

And the CTM-100 wants for nothing in the (perceived) volume department either.

Obviously, this is completely subjective, and my ears are hardly in mint condition themselves after 45 years of being in bands, but in a straight up A/B with the M-Pulse, this amp more than holds it's own, and then some.

Having said all of that, I do need to move it on (as I typically have my eye on something else), so I'm going to drop the price to £500 to see if that sparks some interest.

Enjoy the Sunday weather folks - it's going to be a hot one! 🌞😁
