  1. I think Bass players and the contribution they've made / and make is recognised more and more these days ... There's been a growing awareness helped in no small part by a new wave of really talented players, many of whom sing, write and front their own musical projects. Many of them are female which is great Thats building really nicely on the legacy of Macca, John Entwistle, James Jamerson, Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Chris Squire, Bootsy, Larry Graham, Mark King, Carol Kaye, Kim Deal etc, etc.. and let's not forget Suzi Quatro of course ! So I think it's all good personally. 😊 I'm a bit more worried about the lack of bass guitar in a lot of modern pop music to be honest, given the tendency for 'bass' on records to be a sample generated sub-bass type sound.. That's obviously the vibe that's called for in a lot of pop now, but it's not something I particularly care for.
  2. That's a beautiful rendition of one of my favourite Beatles songs. 😊 Thanks for sharing.. πŸ‘
  3. I believe its all being done in the interests of a mathematical experiment to create the greatest single number in the universe that isn't equal to infinity.. This deal will create that as a result of the number of Spotify streams that it will actually take before Hipgnosis can recoup their $150 million outlay.
  4. Me too.. It's one of the reasons why this forum is still going strong so many years later...
  5. Don't you just love Basschat sometimes... πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
  6. I had one for a couple years back in the late Noughties.. Echoing all the above comments, they are excellent basses! One of the basses I really do regret selling..
  7. As long as you're still making /playing music, that's the important thing IMHO.. Music is good for the body, mind and soul - I think we can all agree on that? (But it's ever so slightly more beneficial when you're a bass player! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜) Best of luck with it all @thebigyin
  8. Happy New Year to all of you lovely Basschat people...Β

Wishing you all the very best for 2021! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ₯‚

Hopefully not too late to wish you a happy and healthy 2021, Nik. Who knows, come September/October (-ish), we may even see another live SE bass bash...? Wishful thinking, I know. :)Β

Belated new year best wishes to you too Nik :)Β

  9. He makes a good sound, that's for sure.. But his basso-fasso is even better!
  10. What is this bassface that you speak of? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  11. I have already signed this in the hope that it might at least get well debated in parliament... Before then being completely ignored by this hapless government, as is their usual way of responding to any other point of view outside of their own, very narrow one. The creative arts in the UK are being destroyed through things like this and Covid whilst BoJo murders a few Vera Lynn tunes on his fiddle (emphasis on the word fiddle of course)..
  12. Belated Happy Birthday Jack! Hope you had a good one... πŸ‘β˜ΊοΈπŸŽΆπŸŽπŸ₯‚ That's exactly it - back in the day, I remember my dad looking 64+ when he was in his early 40s, everyone did then! Mind you, that was 'Man at C&A' for you.. πŸ˜‚ 64 really is like being 40 these days..
  13. Gotta love James Tiberius Kirk! 😁
  14. +1 Yes, it's a beautifully moving performance by Judee Sill.. And the song is incredible..
  15. Great choice @Frank Blank I'd never heard of Judee Sill until the brilliant Laura Viers wrote a great song about her a few years ago ('Song for Judee' ). 'The Kiss' by Judee Sill is one of the most beautiful and profound songs I've ever heard, yet sadly, its almost unknown. Anyway - great choice!
  16. Couldn't agree with you more on that point!
  17. Wow! That is unbelievably brilliant.. One of the biggest songs ever, amazing band and choir making the most incredible sound, and as if that weren't enough, having to perform it in front of Zeppelin themselves.. But she absolutely smashes it.. Wow! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
  18. That's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing @Stingray5
  19. Couldn't agree more with you both about Imelda May.. I remember seeing that performance on Jools a few years back and it was absolutely spellbinding! We were lucky enough too get to see her 7 months later at the Latitude Festival and she was brilliant, as was her band. But as vocalists go from around this part of the world in this era, she's right up there IMHO.
  20. Merry Christmas Folks! Great thread. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Thought I'd add a few of my favourite singers/singing for you... Can't believe this man hasn't been mentioned yet... No words, just pure emotion and some of the most beautiful chords ever IMHO... And some gorgeous harmonies to finish with... Have a fab Xmas day!
  21. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all of my Basschat friends - hope you manage to enjoy the festive season wherever you are! πŸŽ„πŸŽπŸ₯‚πŸ·πŸΊπŸ˜Š

Thanks Nik, hope we'll meet up sometime! πŸ™‚

  22. I haven't done any of the research on it like you have Jack, but my sense of it has always been that Macca has had a raw deal over the years from the mainly pro-Lennon press.. Something that took on an even more zealous edge after Lennon was assassinated.. Come the day that Macca is no longer here, I suspect that the history of it all will get rewritten more fairly and Macca's unbelievablely brilliant contribution to music / culture over the last 60 years will finally get the proper recognition it - and he - deserves.
  23. Fabulous - that's a 'must see' movie for 2021!! Thanks for sharing... πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  24. ... be an archaeologist. And given how antiquated, heavy and out of date some of my bass gear is, I'd say I've pretty much almost achieved my youthful goal! 😁
