1. Hi guys been watching this thread closely as I'm thinking of taken the plunge into the world of double basses anyhoo tried my first one today and I was really sh*te however it was great to try one.... I reckon it'll take a lot of practice. The bass in question was Chinese, which I've heard the odd bad thing about chinese basses but it seemed great to me admittedly I know nothing and it was a good price second hand, and the shop in question has a very good reputation so I don't think they would sell me a pup. Obviously its not gonna be the best bass in the world for under 500 but they will have professionally set the bass up. Are there any good no name chinese basses out there?
2. Yeah it was brand spanking. One of these. http://www.trace-elliot.co.uk/product.php?...l=5&key=222
3. Just had a rehearsal and I borrowed a mates Trace Elliot 1215 500w Combo, brand new never used, he has an endorsement so it has been sitting in his lockup for a year or something . I had trace stuff back in the day but its funny how you kinda associate gear with an era Trace is a bit eighties to me a bit uncool. Anyhoo the upshot being I gave it a blast and it was awesome just absolutely fantastic, really punchy. I didn't take my effects with me and the bass just sounded amazing, I loved it. Dunno if anyone has one of these bad boys but if you do yer a lucky person.
4. I'm much better than I was at keeping things in proper nick. My 4 string is beat up, I've had it since the late 80's but it sounds and plays so good I'll just never sell it so it's probably irrelevant value wise.
5. I think I've found someone selling them. Definitely gonna buy one, keep you guys posted!
6. Yeah he did (fairground attraction guy). Cheers for the info FG I saw Lucida Guitarrons quite cheap but I'll mail the lone star guys\1 And Aargh who is Hobgoblin?? Any info appreciated! cheers S
7. I saw those guys man looks great I think, guy has probably been playing all his life tho
8. That's the very chap.... I like the look of it could be a waste of cash tho You get them much cheaper by the way, just don't know if you could get one in the uk tho.
9. Anyone ever tried one of these mexican bad boys? I have a notion to buy one to play and this acoustic band that may be starting, be good for a laugh and no-one will know if your sh*te (I hope)!
10. CC music is coming back as an old school music store, basses, guitars, amps ..... No high tech kit apparently.
11. I'll get someone to take a look at it! I'm bit rubbish with the tech stuff to be honest.....
12. Hi just wondering if anyone knows to regulate the output volume a ray (apart from the obvious ). The problem I have is my fretted and fretless 4 stringers have a similar volume output but my 5 string is incredibly loud in comparison. I know I could just turn the volume down but I've played the fretted 4 for about twenty years and keep the volume at 9 o'clock so I'e got room to push it up and down as the tune requires same with the fretless. The 5 seems to hit the same volume at 3 o'clock and live results in the loudest bass in the world or no bass at all...... Lowering pickups.... do I just live with it??
13. Cheers guys very useful particularly on the 5, been messing about with it since I saw this post and surprisingly comes quite naturally, though for some reason feels a bit odd on the E or low B, kind of exposed but sure I'll get used might make me play a little softer to which wouldn't be bad thing. Thanks for the links and making the video man!
14. Just designed up the new Abel Ganz website to coincide with our album release pretty basic but knocked together between work and a hectic life in general. Take a look, we also have a download track from the album so feel free to partake of the freeness! I'm still tweaking so apologies for mistakes! www.abelganz.com
15. Why are they sooooo heavy, I use mine in one tune at the moment and it feels like a bloody anchor halfway through! It is 23 minutes long mind you
16. Just to let any bass chatters know that Abel Ganz will be celebrating the release of our long overdue album "Shooting Albatross". The album launch is in Stereo Renfield Lane Glasgow 27 Mar, 20:30 and is a free event !! So if prog is your thing come long!
17. Bought a couple of Comfort Strap(p)s from the Bass Centre the other a day bit disappointed that they are not actual "Comfort Strapps™" but 'Comfort Straps', confusing I know. Decent enough but.... The original Comfort Strapp The Bass Centre Comfort Strap My next purchase will be a Fender Jaz....
18. It's really nice if I don't sell it'll be fine to be honest not in any great rush!
19. Hi looking to sell my Spector Legend 5 (plus case) it's a great bass but just got a hold of an SR5 and it's surplus to requirements. It's a lovely bass never gigged just noodled around in the house and is in perfect nick... Looking for 280. Would consider a trade don't really know what I'm after wouldn't mind a small amp Markbass, PJB Briefcase if someone wanted to do a wee deal, anyway be a shame if it's relegated to under the bed as it's nice!
