1. Ha ha the bloke also had a Wal defretted identical to mine in a funky red Wal case in his cupboard, he wasn't selling that tho. He was a guitar player.
2.
Beautiful bass, that is a wonderful acquisition well done.
Thanks it really is great. I saw it advertised locally and nipped up to see it and loved it.
3. Looks very nice that! I'm in two minds about a refin, the sanding annoys me. But refinishing the bass significantly adds to the cost.
4. I saw Jonas Reingold from the Flower Kings playing a BB3000 and ignore looked and sounded immense. I was reminded how much I liked the look of them.
5. String spacing is definitely on the narrow but I actually find it very comfortable.
6. Always liked the look of old Yamaha basses and saw a BB5000 for sale locally. It needs a bit of TLC and someone has inexplicably sanded off some of the finish. But I have to say I absolutely love this bass! It sounds fantastic, really huge. The weight is perfect for me, very lightweight. Not much online about them but any info would be appreciated!
7. Good idea!
8. Very nice that. Mine has a bit of the chrome flaking on the bridge. Some people call it mojo I call it a pain in the arse! But it plays brilliantly!
9. I've just recently bought a Yamaha bb5000 (today waahay) and was wondering if there was anyway of finding out the exact colour paint used, I know it's a longshot. I needs some refinishing the luthier says he can blend it if I can get the exact paint and I'd rather not get the whole bass refinished but will if I have to. Have to say it seems to be a great bass.
10. Got the last ones I'm afraid. But pickguard heaven in the states will do them and they are pretty reasonable . Bloke from Ernie Ball recommended them. Great about your bass, natural isn't it. My 77 is definitely not immaculate but it's still in good condition for a bass of that age.
11. No worries it was just so it looked okay with the age of the bass. I have a lot of scratch plates at the moment!
12. It's not from pickguard heaven was from another US company.
13.
I don't suppose you fancy selling one do you if you have a surplus now? , I've been looking for one myself, no luck so far. I've had to make do with a black later type one, and on a natural bass that truss rod cutout shows up sadly.
I'm going to keep them but I do have one I got made in the states, which cost a packet! It's not a perfect fit on the neck for my bass unfortunately but it's a decent fit, it looks cool and it's been reliced. Drop me a pm if your interested.
14.
Nice
Thanks! I was beginning to get a bit lonely on this thread!
15. I know this makes me very sad and I'm having a conversation with myself but I am genuinely very excited about finding three genuine Musicman scratchplates (old truss rod configuration) that have been languishing on a shelf at the suppliers for 20 years!
16.
I've tried to love them, I loaned one and gigged it, but it tipped up all night, I looked at others, they had razor sharp metal work, add a rubber ring they all said, so I looked again and the next few had sharp fret ends and crap binding or the finish was bleeding into the bindings, pah I give up
It has to be said I've had no quality issues but would have given up the ghost with the Rickie had the lads in the band not urged me to persevere. Glad I did as I love it now but completely get how people hate them.
17.
Most SR5s out there are ceramic pickup loaded and with the 3eq preamp and pickup selector you can see why people can find them different, my 2007 is a very late ceramic one and I love it now, you won't find a bass that can cut an on stage mix like it, sometimes it might not be the sound you want but at least you can be heard where a jazz would have been swallowed leaving you playing around trying to find the right amount of each pickup, I say this as a jazz bass liker and user, the ceramic in series is just a beast!
My SR5 was a really up front bass just found switching between basses a bit of a pain in the arse as it was just so I'M HERE! I spent all my time trying to even out the sound. But again no fault of the bass and it was quite a looker. I'll try the Classic when I get a chance I think they look tremendous.
18. Gotta say, and I know this is old ground, but I find the build quality on my Rickie to be absolutely fine and no neck dive but it is harder to play than my other basses. I pretty much played a stingray from the late 80s so I'm more used to them.
19. I've got a few Stingrays and my 80s EB is just a great bass to play I've had from new and it's all beat up but it's fantastic and very versatile. My fretless from the 90s is very a good bass and it's potentially my sh*t fretless playing but it doesn't feel quite the same though it looks beautiful. The pre-EB is a different beast but I love playing it and it sounds tremendous. I had an SR5 and I just couldn't get on with it, it was really, really heavy and I found it to be just to full on and aggressive sounding but I'd really like to try the classic 5 string. Dunno if this adds to the conversation but I suppose there are variations in models. I've never really had a fender for any length of time and really didn't like the last one I had but I wouldn't discount buying one if it felt right.
20. Crikey just picked up three original MM scratchplates in the UK after ordering two new ones from pickguard heaven. Scratchplate central!
21. Just for info, EB no longer have stock of original style MM scratchplates but their templates are used by pickguard heaven in the US.
22. Cheers Bolo that's a great idea.
23. Anyone know where I can pick up a stingray scratchplate it's for the old truss rod configuration, which I think was pre 90s.
24. Get well soon Howard!
25. Thanks a lot lads I really appreciate that you bought the album and I'm over it that you like it. We are beginning to see some nice reviews and getting quite a bit of airplay. We have an album launch set up in Glasgow if any of you guys are local. And cheers on the artwork I'm more of a motion graphics person so it's nice to do some print, though a bit scary typos and all that jazz!
