  1. That just sounds so wrong on so many levels!! 😱
  2. I was always under the impression that the jet engine was invented by Frank Whittle who is British??
  3. Yeah No!! I won't be doing that!! 😁
  4. Well I thought if it works then you have got a wide varieties of colours to use instead of just different shades of woods and it's cheaper than some constructional veneers 😀
  5. No but they use perspex and materials like that so I thought why not give it a go? 😀
  6. Gorilla glue, I scored the poly first to get a key as well......
  7. No its Sapele and white polycarbonate (I saw it and thought it why not?!?!) I didn't remake the neck I just made a new small length and recut the scarf joint.........
  8. Could start shaping the neck today I had to redo the scarf joint as I right royally balls it up 🤬 (probably the first of many) But that's now gluing up so I'll try and get the shaping done tomorrow.......
  9. That's what I'm thinking because the top horn comes over a third down the length of the neck So surely anything past that point won't be able to be adjusted by the truss rod
  10. I'm making a 5 string neck thru single cut at the minute and I'm just doing the neck it's a 34" scale and I'm almost ready to fit the truss rod What size do I need to get? The fretboard is approx 25" do I need one that will go from the nut to the heel of the fretboard? Or because of the construction of it would that be overkill?
  11. Didn't really manage to get a lot done today as I'm still trying to get my head round how the wings are going to fit with a lot of help and advice from @Andyjr1515 I managed to get the scarf joint cut and glued up Hopefully I'll start shaping the neck tomorrow.......... 😀
  12. 'The figure is reportedly caused by unfavorable growing conditions for the tree. The Sugar Maple attempts to start numerous new buds to get more sunlight, but with poor growing conditions the new shoots are aborted, and afterward a number of tiny knots remain. Birdseye Maple is frequently sold in veneer form, but solid lumber is available as well. Being tiny knots, the birdseye figure is most noticeable and pronounced on flatsawn pieces of lumber' I don't know if that helps??.........
  13. Just wondering what size truss rod would I need as being a single cut does it need to run to where the neck meets the body at the bottom horn of would it just need to run to near to the end of the top horn? 😀
  14. I'm Denbigh so we've almost got enough people to start the North Wales bass bash 😀
  15. Yeah that's the idea there's a little local charity to me that is very diserving it's called 'help for James's' it's basically a charity set up to help people called James try and finish some of their outstanding projects because they are skint because their missus and kids spend all their hard owned money 😜
  16. I'm planning on doing a 12° neck angle does that seem about right? As I've read generally they are between 10-14°......
  17. Hmmmmmm interesting? I was thinking of a new build concept called a 'donateabass' where you can only build it from donated parts are you up for it?? 😋
  18. If you need to get rid of a maple/maple one I'm sure I could find a good home for it 😁
  19. I've finally had time to start on the neck and body laminations And here's how the body will sit I'm kinda leaning towards a maple fretboard (this is just ply for illustrative purposes) Hopefully I'll get time to glue it up today............ 😀
  20. Its bad enough having to spend it with 60 kids but having to go to Doncaster as well I feel your pain!! 😁
  21. I use the 1000grit wet and dry from Halfords it's quite cheap as well and I've never had a problem with it..........
  22. Looking good! I really do like that top! I think that the bottom horn would look better shortened a bit 😀
  23. Just being nosey I noticed on your profile your in North Wales? I'm in Denbigh where abouts are you? 😀
  24. Their coming on very nicely!! I use one of the carving wheels on a grinder when I’m doing the belly carve, they are definitely unforgiving!! 😀
