  1. What is your overall string spacing the smallest I can find is 64mm (16mm spacing) which is only 7mm wider than the bridge I'm going to replace? And the heel of the neck is 64mm so that should just fit without the strings falling over the sides of the neck? Did you shave a couple of mm of each side of the nut (45mm) aswell to get it down to 42mm?
  2. Did you keep the same neck and just change the nut and change to smaller saddles so you could fit an extra one in? I'm not a fast or technical player either so it might be OK...... And save me some money
  3. No I've just edited my last post it's more in your face than that!
  4. You won't see the light strips on the top because it's being veneered but I wanted the back to be quite understated because the veneer on top is a bit 'in your face'........ ๐Ÿ˜€
  5. Got some sanding done today.... Going to finish the headstock and start contouring the neck tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
  6. Beautiful!!!
  7. I'm sure I'll survive and sorry for the thread hijack @Christine
  8. I don't think you appreciate the severity of the savage attack ๐Ÿ˜ณ
  9. What error I can't see anything wrong!?! ๐Ÿ˜
  10. I'm using my Ibby neck as a reference so I've made a couple of templates for the profile, Hopefully once I get started the fear will go? I'll probably get that started on Sunday It was really nice up there till I got attacked by a couple of Seagull (there was 3 pairs of chicks up on the roof) thier beaks are really sharp they drew blood
  11. I let you off this once but please don't do it again ๐Ÿ˜‹ I had to Google what a pederson jig was and they look like a brilliant idea it would take all the hard work out of it! This is the first neck I've done so the thought of contouring the neck makes my bum squeak a bit ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I was down near your neck of the woods today enjoying the sun working on a roof that overlooks Puffin island
  12. That neck taper jig is a really simple but brilliant idea it's a shame you didn't post it a few days ago I would have adopted for my build!! I need to make a radius jig but I won't be doing that for a while Do you shape the back of the neck by hand or do you use a jig? Because that's my next job over the weekend ๐Ÿ˜
  13. Because I'm swaying more to playing 5 string instead of 4 I thought I'd convert my '72 ish P bass onto a 5 string I have seen people doing this but keeping the 4 string neck and changing the nut and bridge, but to be honest I don't think I would be able to get on with the tight string spacing so I think I will get a 5 string neck and rout out the neck pocket and change it that way I'm still not 100% sure whether it's going to be a Tele or a Precision I'm leaning more toward a Tele but that could change? But here's the donor bass
  14. OK there's going to be another change to this bass, I now decided to convert this into a 5 string Tele or Precision I need to order a 5 string neck, bridge and pickups, I'll custom make the pickguard to fit this body The body I'll keep white and I'm still going to do the pickguard orange I'm not sure about whether to change the hardware to black or keep it chrome I'm then going to use the neck off this one on my telecaster shaped body build ๐Ÿ˜€
  15. So are they letting you keep the old ones as compensation?
  16. Oooohh errrr missus ๐Ÿ˜
  17. I haven't decided if I am being very brave or very stupid as yet ๐Ÿคจ
  18. Whack a couple of magic tree's in your car that will take the smell away ๐Ÿ˜
  19. I really liked the sound of a binding so I've decided to bind the neck and headstock with some Oak veneer I've got Also it's covered the discrepancy which is a bonus I'm going to leave it all clamped up till I'm back in work on Friday the start shaping and sanding everything ๐Ÿ˜€
  20. I think that's what I'll do as it is only for me As per usual I'm overthinking it!! ๐Ÿ™„
  21. That is my main concern but I can't see any other way at the moment? Maybe when I radii (I think that's the right word?) the neck most of it might be removed? ๐Ÿค”
  22. Thanks but I had a bit of an accident today, routers and hay-fever don't mix! half way through routing the neck blank my eyes started streaming and had a sneezing fit and before I could switch the router off I nicked the neck near the nut ๐Ÿคฌ So the only thing is I can think to get over it is if I carefully rout the neck 6mm thinner on each side (which is the width of the Oak strip wood then glue it on)
  23. Thanks mate I've just got to finish doing the tapers then I'm ready to glue the wings on ๐Ÿ˜€
  24. No Woodinblack is right it didn't adhere well at all I probably should have used a different glue but I swapped it for Oak instead ๐Ÿ˜€
  25. Got a bit more done today, Headstock cut started to redo the taper and took some of the bulk off the back of the neck aswell
