  1. The top might look a bit like this.... I don't know whether to change the orientation of the grain on this build? Maybe diagonal to follow the body shape? I'm doing a lescaster that I'm going to do the top in a chevron pattern?
  2. I only said about making it more jazz like because of the OP stated that he really likes a daphne blue tort pickguard Squier CV Personally I'm with you I would definitely go a different route with it..... 👍🏻
  3. I can't see any reason why you couldn't glue the RB body back together if you've got some sash clamps but if you decide you want to get rid of it then let me know how much you would want for it? 👍🏻 Thinking about the Grind you could make it look like a modern looking jazz bass by shortening the top horn a but and adding a custom jazz shaped pickguard and either fill some of the pot holes and put a control plate on it or leave it rear routed, I'll try and draw on inkscape what I mean and post a pic later
  4. On a facebook group I'm in a fella is selling ebony fretboards for quite cheap the link is for guitar sized boards but he can get ones big enough for a bass if required Here's the link if anyone is interested https://www.facebook.com/groups/796545240889713/permalink/1119214388622795/
  5. Chris bought a Squier Body off me paid immediately no hassles and he let me know when it was delivered would sell to him again no problem 👍🏻
  6. I try to convince myself that I just really don't like the sound of rounds and love flats but in reality I don't like the sound my fingers make on them due to terrible technique!
  7. I got this bass off ebay just because it reminded me of a Fortress and it was 3 miles from my house and it was only £50 I didn't like the colour but I just had to have it, i have refinished it now tho......... 👍🏻
  8. I'm going to do a Meteora with a soapbar pickup bit like this Maybe Mahogany neck with Oak fretboard, reverse headstock tele style, pickguard will probably be black with chrome hardware.... 👍🏻
  9. Neck is now carved just got some fine tuning to do..... I carved it using this 2 1/2" roundover router bit which isn't for the faint hearted but I've still got 10 fingers and the neck has came out how I hoped so I call it a win!! 😁 I'm remaking the fretboard out if some oak that I think it grain fill it black then just oil it....... 👍🏻
  10. Got the neck pocket and pickup cavity routed out and the neck has been shaped I'm going to use the original truss rod out of the twisted neck that looks and functions fine...... 👍🏻 Time to start carving the neck....... 😬💩💩
  11. Hi I'm not entirely sure what wood it is but its definitely not MDF or Ply 👍🏻
  12. I think its Alder from what I found out online using the serial number off the neck but I'll scrape some paint off the neck pocket tomorrow and have a look and let you know 👍🏻
  13. 2000 Squier P Bass body in good condition but has a few age related scuffs, dents, scratches etc it weighs approx 2.6kgs (5 1/2 lbs) The pickguard is Allparts that looks like its snapped at some point and been glued back together £40 ono (includes UK postage)
  14. I'm swaying more towards a Meteora Bass with a PJ pickup config but I'm definitely going to do a semi hollow soon I'm probably going to do a '51 P style......👍🏻
  15. Not a Sunburst but its Sunburnt does that count??
  16. On a few of my recent basses to name one my 51 p bass build I used tinted danish oil then used quick drying water based polyurethane and its have been fine butas far as I understand I don't think solvent based lacquer can be used over a solvent based stain as the solvent in the lacquer will dissolve the stain?.... 👍🏻
  17. You can oil it to bring out the grain then let it dry thoroughly then you can use water based polyurethane over the top and it won't react..... 👍🏻
  18. I got some flooring delivered and it came on what I think is a pallet made out of Poplar which will probably make a few nice 10mm thick tops and its got me thinking of what I should build next? I've got a few ideas for a couple of guitars one being a kind of double cut Nashville Tele-ish/Strat-ish 'Mongrel' type thing But I'm a bit stuck on a bass, I'm thinking either Stingray, Jazz or a Meteora? Or maybe a semi-hollow? But I'm open to any other ideas of not the usual suspects......... 👍🏻
  19. Well I think the bass is a hit!!..... 👍🏻
  20. I've decided to make the neck for this build (Oak with a Rosewood fretboard that I took off the twisted Squier neck) so to make my life easier I've bought a set of 51/54 p bass neck templates I'm thinking of making it reverse headstock?........ 👍🏻
  21. Looking good mate! love the figuring of the Oak!..... 👍🏻
  22. My scales aren't working at the mo but I reckon its about 2.5kg 👍🏻
  23. All finished and set up! Headstock logo is on I've named it the 'B Bass' as my little boy is called Bradley One slight problem is that even though I used short scale stringd I had to wind the thicker part of the E and A strings and it had stretched the string a bit but it seems to be stable tuning but I might have to look for some 24" scale strings, I don't know if they do them?....... 👍🏻
