  1. And here’s ‘Ole Smokey’.............😀 The seller I bought the P90 pickups from sent out the wrong item he sent 4 sets of silver block inlay decals (The pickups are on their way now) so I’m tempted to see how they would look on this build............🤔
  2. Back at work now so these builds can continue, Here’s a quick mock up of how ‘The Bulleit’ might look............ I’m not sure if I’m going to relic the hardware now because I kinda like the look of fresh chrome against old wood??...........😀
  3. I agree black with gold saddles and with gold knobs........👍
  4. I got started on the pedal this afternoon..........😬 I didn’t have anything to hold the pcb so I nicked a photo holder off my daughter!! I finished doing the board, tested it and bugger me it worked first time just got to do the switch now and get it in the enclosure I’ve decided against the wooden and gone with Alu instead.........👍
  5. My 2 necks turned up today and I’m really impressed by the quality of them especially as they only cost £20 each! there’s no sharp fret ends and I checked it for high/low frets but I couldn’t find any!.............😀
  6. I got this......... And the missus paid for one of the tele style necks for my builds which should be here next week......🤞
  7. Mine are: 1. Practice, Practice, Practice 2. Try and build my confidence and hopefully try out for a band 3. Practice some more after being laughed at and turned down by the band in number 2...............😬
  8. Thanks mate it came out better than I thought it would! it’s amazing what you can do with a bit of watered down PVA and a laser jet printout!?! Ole Smoky and the Bass are definitely not going to have pickguards but the jury is still out on the Bulleit??..............🤔
  9. That should work if you paint the sides and the top edge then sand the paint off the top just make sure you keep the sander flat then it should keep a sharp edge on the paint well that’s what I did anyway...........👍
  10. Work is winding down a bit now so I had some time to get on with the Barncasters Heres ‘Ole Smokey’ And here’s ‘The Bulleit’ I can’t decide if it looks better with or without a pick guard And finally the Barncaster bass I’m having the same dilemma about the pickguard I'm leaning more towards no pickguard on the Barncaster bass..............😀
  11. Very nice mate I do like the sunburst ones!! I’ve got 2 Rock Basses, I’ve never played a made in Germany Warwick so I don’t know how they compare but I really rate them for the price I think they are great!!! The 4 string Trans Blue one is a 2002 and the 5 string Black one is a 2015 Both mine have the s/n etched on the back of the headstock just follow the link in the previous post and it should give you all the info your looking for.............👍
  12. The barncaster bass has been started today! (My phone is knackered at the mo so I can’t take any photos hopefully it will be repaired in the next few days) Its going to be a reclaimed wood body ‘51 style control plate with an all black neck I’ve got laying about that I’ll probably relic a little bit? Relict Chrome hardware with just a split p in the standard place and it will probably have fake branding on it which might be the ‘Gentleman Jack’ or ‘Jameson’ logo which I’m going to try and do tomorrow .........👍
  13. I feel the same when I see the quality of bass building that come out of your workshop!!! 😁
  14. There will be a barncaster bass being built soon!! I did put the thread on Guitarchat but no one seems to frequent it and the people who are on are all from this forum anyway..........😜 ow long has the mortar been on?if it’s only a few days then you could just use a stiff broom/brush but any longer I would use a brass wire brush which should remove it fine..........👍
  15. Can anyone recommend any books that they think will help with me learning about building effects pedals and electronics in general??.........👍
  16. I’ve bought a PCB to make my life a bit easier for the first build, I’ve sourced all the parts myself and am trying to build a wooden enclosure so it’s a bit different I have started a thread on the Build Diaries Page for it but if it doesn’t work then I’ll just get an Alu one instead This pedal is going to be used with a guitar but I’m thinking if building another one maybe a fuzz instead to use on my bass but I really like the idea of a toggle switch to switch between the cap values tho I was really just wondering what mods do you need to do to optimise pedals for use on bass as there is a lot more pedals for the guitar than bass I do want to try and build a chorus pedal as well..........👍
  17. Thanks mate that has helped a lot!! The gain control is actually a C500k reverse log Which if I understand correctly it will give most of the control in the middle portion of the curve instead at each end, which I think will be fine for guitar but I would lower the value for bass.........👍
  18. Thanks for the reply I think I understand but here’s the schematic for reference I’ve found the cap that comes off the opamp it's labelled C2 Sorry (I’m still learning) but which ones would be the first (C6??) and last and the coupling caps........
  19. I’m about to undertake my first pedal build its based on the DOD 250 Overdrive pedal which I’m making for my 6 string electric and was wondering if I wanted to make a bass friendly version is it just the value of the capacitors that you change or is there more involved than that I've tried to learn about sine wave modulation but it went right over my head so I could do with some advice in layman’s term please............👍
  20. You’re completely right people who don’t have experience in using brick acid etc should really take care and wear appropriate PPE and read the coshh/data sheet before using it The Galv pickguard I thought looked a bit to bright and shiny so I used a solution called T Wash which is used on galvanised and lead work to give a patina because I sanded to pickguard first it went a nice rusty colour which I think is a lot more in keeping with the look But if you use it on on fresh galvanised steel it will go black
  21. Thanks for your concern but when it comes to brick cleaner the percentage of Hydrochloric acid is very low and I’m in the building trade and been using it for years to be honest nitromors hurts more when you get it on your hands than brick cleaner does but I probably really should wear gloves when I’m using it!! Brick cleaner on its own doesn’t dissolve the Chrome I had to dull the chrome first with sandpaper then submerged it in the brick cleaner for a few days and it still didn’t really do a lot it was only when some steel wool was added that a reaction actually started to happen.........👍
  22. I tried Toilet cleaner but it didn’t do anything that’s when I tried brick cleaner which didn’t do anything on its own but as soon as I chucked in some wire wool Bobs your uncle and craddock’s your aunt lovely bit of tarnish The scaffold board I reappropriated had been used inside so it wasn’t wet but if it does check a little bit then it will all add to the charm of the guitar............😀
  23. I’m not using anything that strong it’s just brick cleaner (muriatic acid) with some wire wool in it to help with the oxidation process
  24. Mine is nothing that posh it’s just an old scaffold board I nicked off site the other week I did quite a few years ago got some reclaimed Oak flooring that had been ripped out of the grand hall in a local mental hospital the grain on it was crazy!!.........😜
  25. Oooohhhh there’s just something about a black bass with Maple/Maple neck that makes me feel a little bit funny inside!!!.........🤭
