This is a great opportunity to own a YOB bass with striking good looks, vintage sound and bags of mojo at a sensible price! The bass is all original in every sense from finish to pickups to electronics, strap pegs, tuners, bridge etc. The only exceptions are the pickup height adjustment screws and the zero fret which was professionally replaced when recently set up by Mike Walsh (Zoot bass luthier). The original zero fret is included in the sale. The neck is a 30” short scale with a lovely piece of bound dark rosewood, mop dot inlays and of a width and string spacing comparable to a precision. The neck and body are in great shape for a 50 year old bass with no real dings to speak of but a fair few lacquer cracks and checking… Nothing that affects stability though. In addition three of the scratch plates have a missing corner due to shrinkage (see photos). Also, one of the machine head gear covers has been dented and straightened out as best as possible (again see pics). The electronics are fairly quiet for their age but there is a tiny bit of a scratchy noise on one of the tone pots. This is minimal and is not a serious crackle that would upset any sound men if you change settings mid gig. Ive owned this bass for just over 20 years when it was bought for me for my 21st birthday which makes it a bit of a wrench to say goodbye to. However, since venturing into the world of J and P basses it has just been collecting dust. I’m now out of space and anyway it deserves to be played! Audition at my home in Essex (drinks/biscuits provided) or I can meet within a sensible distance or I can ship and will even split the cost. It doesn't come with a case but I’m sure I can figure out a way of getting it to you safely. Mostly interested in a straight sale to part fund an incoming custom order but I’ll listen to trade ideas with cash going in either direction so try me. I like Ps and Js but am quite broad minded :-) Thanks for looking!

Skype versus face2face lessons?

Guess the only way is to try it and see then... Wow! I bet a lesson with Anthony was an eye opener! What did you work on? -
Skype versus face2face lessons?
spiltmilk_2000 replied to spiltmilk_2000's topic in General Discussion
I had a Skype interview last year, never tried it before. Despite working in IT, I found it absolutely horrid. The human interaction just isn't there.
Hmmm... Guess that's what I was afraid of... -
So I'm thinking about getting some more lessons and am toying with the idea of Skype to open up more possibilities when choosing a teacher and to not be limited by geography. For those of you who have studied via Skype (or taught) I just wondered how you found not being physically in the same room? Was it still a worthwhile experience or would you say face to face is the only way? I guess the next question is, if Skype is worth trying, who would your dream teacher be? I love the idea of potentially having access to all be best bass educators in the world and have a few ideas about people I'd try and get some time with but who would you choose and why???
Which circuit are you going for?
Going for the basic PA1-jb I think on the reccomendation of the builder. I too am not really an active kind of guy (very inactive in fact! ;-) and usually just play a passive P or J but I thought I might like an active option... Can't really see a downside as long as I can switch to passive if I fancy it which no doubt I will :-) I'm thinking if I keep it simple to dial in there's more of a chance I might use the active option though...

What's the general consensus? Thinking of having one in a pj I'm having built? Any experience of them I'd love to hear your thoughts... Thanks

Sean Hurley p-bass with bridge mute
spiltmilk_2000 replied to spiltmilk_2000's topic in Bass Guitars
This: http://www.bassmute.com/bassmute/bm_mainframe.html Site looks a bit odd, but it is legit. Mate of mine has one, works a treat and is designed for bass.
Very interesting... Thanks for the tip! -
Anyone tried one of the Sean Hurley sig precisions? A) is the bridge mute system good? And anyone know if this bridge is available as an upgrade option? Could quite fancy popping one onto my p-bass...

Music theory book for guitars or bass
spiltmilk_2000 replied to The Hat's topic in Theory and Technique

Thanks for all the help guys... Hearing the way you speak about them with such passion tells me it's gotta be an idea worth exploring ;-)

So I've always been a staunch jazz and p bass enthusiast. I have too many and really don't need any more instruments but lately keep looking at music man basses and thinking I might like to try one. (Never have!) So, how can you convince I need one? Why do you love them? Which models should I check out and why? I'd probably be more interested in higher end rather than cheaper lines simply as I wouldn't want to end up upgrading later if I do buy one. Thanks for any advice!
I quite fancy an olympic white Jazz now! Don't fancy selling your SL112 do you?
Sorry! They are great though! I'm actually in the market for a 2nd one! ;-)

You lucky lucky man! That's just about all the basses you'll ever need right there! Now get saving for that fodera! ;-)

I have a few relics and feel differently about each... 75 p bass... Given to me by a musical legend that I take great care of (the bass not the musical legend, although he is getting on!) 75 jazz heavy relic that I am not even slightly bothered if I ding... Custom shop 61 that the certificate says relic but has only 2 small chips and loads of sexy nitro checking... I'd be gutted if I damaged it! Limelight relic (fake!) that I even let my 3 year old play around with. It's a great bass but a few dings won't make the slightest difference. For me it's about the emotional attachment of a particular instrument that makes it more precious.
