Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Annoying Twit replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-UNIQUE-1974-IBANEZ-PROTOTYPE-EBO-No1-BASS-PX-TRADES-/201062739832?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2ed045ef78
For those of you who know you Ibanez guitars from this period you know that they do not have Ibanez Logo's on the headstock (well not all of them) and this one has no markings other than the neck plate markings. The bass was looked over by an expert who writes about the history of guitars and they said it is not uncommon to see prototypes from Ibanez like this with serial number 1, this means it was the first prototype rather than the first production model.
I'll have a google concerning this one, but my expectation is that this listing is a cornucopia of BS. -
As they're analogue pedals, wouldn't it be possible for someone to develop a mod to adjust the EQ frequencies to be more bass friendly? I"ve been comparing using a Marshall Guv'nor GV-2 pedal on bass, versus a Behringer BDI-21. The bass specific Behringer definitely has EQ more suited to bass, but a surprising (to me) lack of distortion. I've heard some online demos of the Joyo American sound, and am tempted to buy one just for occasional guitar. If it was useful for bass too, that would be interesting. But, if the EQ acts like the EQ on the GV-2, then I don't think it's worth it to me to push the button.

@Hugh971 - Really looking forward to your review.

Maya J-bass. Looks almost new. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-1970s-Maya-Electric-Jazz-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-Japan-MIJ-/261436373612?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cded27a6c -
I can't yet confirm, but it's looking more likely that I will be able to attend.

1977 Ibanez Artist? I had one when I was a teenager. IMHO, they are certainly not generic.

Output levels of passive basses - can it be altered?
Annoying Twit replied to Diablo's topic in Bass Guitars
The BDI21 does change the tone of my streamer. But, that's a good thing in my case. -
Thomann also sell the Harley Benton scratchplates separately if you have a nosey in their parts section. Tortoiseshell for about £15 or pearl for around £19 if you wanted to add to the fretless.
My plan to buy a fretless is on hold until I recover from other financial outgoings (I'm not that poor, but budget carefully). However the HB is a definite possibility. £15 doesn't seem much, but it's 13.57% of the price of the whole bass!

I've just solved precisely this problem with a passive Rockbass Streamer Standard. By buying a Behringer BDI21, and adding it to the signal path. It also gives me tone controls that do something to the sound, unlike the tone knob on the Streamer which does nothing. You may want something more expensive, and a 'clean boost pedal' will likely do it. -
BIN for £70. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e8941b190 Buy one new for ... £62 http://www.thomann.d...120bk_ebass.htm I'm sure I've seen HB's selling for more than or the same as new price before.

I'm not considering buying one of these - this is just idle curiosity. But, how good are the ESP LTD D4/D5/D6 basses? They look nice, and pricewise are an alternative to (say) the Peavey Grind Basses which are popular. Does anyone have one or experience of one?

Aria STB P or J bass? I've seen them go for about £40 on ebay, which is a fraction of the price of a Westone Thunder. A few have gone for £50 or less recently. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-guitar-Aria-STB-series-/171250318163?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27df507b53 Westfield P bass or MM copy? I've seen these go for about £50. Or now that I look even less. £40, including a case? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westfield-bass-guitar-and-Kinsman-case-/141220480989?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item20e16587dd bargain! £23????? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bass-guitar-Westfield-/281277246028?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item417d6e2a4c

I've been asked to read Kanji on necks and bodies before. But, it always turns out that the bits I really need to recognise are unreadable. The "Hokkaido" is clear, and even I would have got that. But the bit at the top just looks like random lines to me. I'm not even convinced that it's Kanji at all.
Yeah, I reckon he has probably told her that he's parting with his treasured bass that he used when he was a rock star and it will bring in a tidy sum for the nuptials
"Darling, I TRIED to sell the bass. I listed it at just over a quarter for what it goes for new. It's the economy... You don't want me to give it away do you?" -

And this modern day ESP LTD bass is 'from the golden Fujigen era'. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4ad2ab7aa8 According to this chart: http://www.music-trade.co.jp/etc.html ESP never had Fujigen make basses for them. Edit: Made in Indonesia. -
Ditto for me, this looks nice. I'm surprised that there aren't more fretless basses with lines on the side of the fretboard, but none on the front.

New from Gear4Music, Headless Acoustic
Annoying Twit replied to Phil Adams's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
What are you saying??? There have been 9 bids so far - why???
The Gear4Music bashed up broken basses seem to sell for surprisingly high (to me anyway) prices. Not sure why, but they do. This may have been the inspiration for this. -
100 Bass Guitars to Play Before you Die!
Annoying Twit replied to nick@ibassmag's topic in General Discussion
I'm already concerned that I'm taking the P a bit in terms of trying out basses at my local shops. If I tried to cover 100 basses, they'd probably all chip in for a hitman. -
I started this thread just after I put a lowish (but plausible) bid on a Behringer BDI21, but then spotted my Guv'nor GV-2 and gave it a go. As it turns out (Murphy's law - though I'm by no means unhappy) I won the auction for the BDI21. Hence, I'll now be able to compare the proper bass approach to the guitar re-use approach.

Everything about this screams that it isn't Matsumoku at all. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Columbus-Series-2-Sunburst-Electric-Bass-Guitar-MIJ-Matsumoko-Vintage-/161257731329?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item258bb5b501 -
MIJ Martin Through Neck Bass
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I much prefer the darker finishes on the Kasugas on your document. All of them look pretty nice to me, though. -
I've no idea how much this worth, or whether it's a collector's item as the seller seems to think. But, I post it here on the off-chance that it's a good buy. It's certainly not something you see on ebay every day. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uber-Rare-Pro-Martin-Through-neck-Bass-Made-in-Japan-70s-80s-/331160139431?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d1aaeb6a7

I have a bass at work for odd minutes here and there practice. I'm using a Vox AC30 amplug as a headphone amp on it, with a jack cable from a laptop which has a drum machine. I wondered about buying the bass amplug, but this one seems to do the job. The simple effects and amp models on my (guitar) microcube seem to work fine with bass. But I haven't played bass through the speaker on it, even at low levels, in case I damage it.
