1. How does the sound of the various Epiphane models compare to the Gibson passive t'bird?
2. Thanks for giving us the insider view on the bass. I see from your sig that you've decided to settle for a ten string bass then Is it a wide range ten string, or a fiver with additional octave strings? I'm guessing that if someone made you an offer good enough to cancel the auction, that it was a pretty good price.
3. Very impressed by the sound of the Thunderbird. And while it still lacks a pickup, the restored SB1000 felt lovely. The JR basses are visually excellent and play very well. The COG board of awesomeness providing octave with dirt sounds while players worked out Royal Blood. The Yamaha BEX4 sounded very nice. I'd only heard the BEX4 on youtube before, and the videos I saw definitely did not do the Yammie justice. Dread bass's 7 string - I've never seen a low F (detuned to E) string before, and they make more sense to me now. Andyjr1515 - I'm borrowing a file next week to give your recommended fret levelling technique a go and will have a hack at the nut of the practice deko I had with me today. The gold Warwick Starbass is golder than than a gold thing. Featherlight 1x12 cabs, and the blue glow LED modified cab. CS Thanks for letting me use your amp. Thanks to everyone I met whom I haven't mentioned here. My memory is so poor, I've already managed to forget the exact brand of strings recommended by Seashell. Were they Status Half-Rounds?
4. Thanks to the organisers. Looking forward to next year already.
5. Won't be along exactly at 12pm, but will be there at some time in the first hour. I'm bringing a PJ Deko 5 string as well as looper and computer power supply this year. Since the Deko was bought as a practice hack, I'm bringing tools and stuff so that if it's appropriate we can take it to bits and do stuff to it.
6. DEKOS! Given recent events, not sure that the are all live. But, I see P-bass, PJ-HTR, Beatbass. EDIT: They seem to be live. Beatbass is live http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_vs_vintage_se_deko.htm £32.74 PJ-HTR 4 string too. http://www.thomann.d...series_deko.htm £26.79 P-Bass. http://www.thomann.d...d_seri_deko.htm £19.35 LH Acoustic back again. http://www.thomann.d..._nt_lh_deko.htm Bolt-on SG guitar. http://www.thomann.d...200_bk_deko.htm http://www.thomann.d...and_basses.html EDIT: All still up. I was away from my computer and didn't hear the Dekos being added. But, they seem to be staying around a bit. I'm tempted by the Beatbass, but I just don't need one. Even at £32 something. EDIT: Beatbass and SG guitar gone. But, PJ and P basses still up, as well as the LH acoustic that has been coming and going for a while. EDIT: PJ, LH acoustic, and P-Bass still up at 9am. This is unprecedented, at least for a very long time, for the P-Bass and PJ. Perhaps the market for dekos is starting to get saturated? EDIT: All of last night's new ones gone now.
7. I've been curious about these since I saw this youtube video: It doesn't sound too bad to me. But when I tried out a Kala U-Bass, I was disappointed with both the sound and feel. Not that I'm saying that others might not like them, but I didn't feel any particular GAS. The Tanglewood Traveller is bigger, and I'm hoping that it would have a more impressive acoustic sound.
8. The mobile site lists a number of dekos that are sold out: https://m.thomann.de/gb/decorative_guitars_and_basses.html?ref=mpd_sn_1 19 instruments there (it says, I didn't count), but only four are marked as available. The rest are shown as sold out. The prices appears to be the same compared to the normal web site. It has been the case for a while that sometimes the number listed on the page is different from the actual number of instruments, but the normal deko page usually just shows available instruments.
9. I once played a Vintage ES335 copy and really liked it. I went back to the shop to buy it the next day, but the shop had closed down. Despite the shop telling me that it wasn't a closing down sale. I've been looking at these for a while, wondering whether to pick up a deko. But I must admit that when I play the sound demos for the HB on Thomann, the sound doesn't blow me away nor sound different enough compared to my Vintage LP copy. I don't think I'm going to be buying one of these, but does it sound better in real life than the demos?
10.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a bitsa made from an Ibanez Roadstar (RB920?), de-fretted P-type neck & a bunch of bits of substantially lesser quality than the original Ibby parts. Each to their own...
Now that you point that out, I see your point. I don't like this 'custom' bass any more as I can now only see it as the bitsa it is.
11. DEKOS! http://www.thomann.d...and_basses.html EDIT: NO BASSES!! OUTRAGE!!!!! I put a Les Paul copy in my shopping cart, as they disappear so fast I'm tempted to try and buy one for the sport of it. EDIT: Les Paul still there. That's unusual. Unprecedented? http://www.thomann.d..._serie_deko.htm Sold out already. Pointy thing still there: http://www.thomann.d...series_deko.htm EDIT: Odd, the sold out items aren't disappearing from the main deko list. I do want a classical guitar, but would prefer something more upmarket than a CG200. Even if the deko version is £9. http://www.thomann.d...200_bk_deko.htm The sold out items are still there in the list. If this is going to start recurring, I'm going to have to rewrite my program.
12.
I take it the search for 9 strings continues
It's not that serious a search, but I'd like one some day. Not that I have any real need for one, but I would like one. Hence me not going out and spending £3000 or whatever on one.
13. I googled 9 string fretless bass. Here's a better picture of it.
14. My mind boggles at the thought of playing one of these. Wouldn't intonation be much more difficult than a standard fretless with the fanned lack of frets?
15.
Why not look at adding a little synth to your rig? I use an E-MU Shortboard for the Micheal Jackson style synth bass lines and its got a few other decent sounds on it. Why bother looking for a pedal to emulate a keyboard sound when you could just buy a keyboard? More specifically, the Akai Mini-Brute or the Novation Mini-Nova might be useful. Small, compact, very easy to use out of the box and you've got a useful instrument you can use in many situations.
The E-MU Shortboard only has a 12dB/octave lowpass filter. Wouldn't this miss out some of the 24dB/octave filter bass sounds. The Mini-Brute and Mini-Nova have far more flexible filtering than the shortboard, I think.
16. If anyone saw my confusion about the scale length before I edited it out, please ignore it. It does say 33" on the BG site. I've queried this with BG however. If it is 33", then IMHO that's an interesting move on Revelation's part. As it gives the bass a unique selling point (over and above the lower price) which might win over a proportion of potential bass VI purchasers.
17. I'd forgotten that I needed to buy another tuner. Thanks for jogging my memory.
18. IMHO this looks quite nice. Nothing particularly notable, but I think the parts and finish go together to give a nice overall visual effect. Though, looking at the electronics and the bridge, it looks as if someone has been raiding the parts bin and trying to use up as much as they can. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-FRETLESS-BASS-GUITAR-/271862051286?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4c3db1d6
19. BigRedX, did you buy it? BTW: These seem to hold their value well. I don't think they were much more than £100 or so when they were new.
20. Congratulations! Is your A string on the PB-20 lower than the other strings? BTW: Left handed acoustic bass and baritone guitar dekos now gone.
21. If D is a pivot chord, wouldn't the melody itself then be what indicates the actual key at that point.
22. I don't know that much about copyright, but even I can see that there is a lot of misinformation in this thread. For live cover versions, see: http://www.makingmus...ing-rights-faqs Just because something is performed in education doesn't mean that copyright is not an issue. Read this: https://www.gov.uk/g...nd_Teaching.pdf Note the requirement for 'fair dealing', and that copying an entire work does not come under fair dealing. For youtube (etc.) please see this and its references: http://www.thebigmus...-cover-version/ However, it seems as if Youtube is paying royalties to copyright holders, in the US it seems. http://videoter.com/youtube-content-id-pay-1-billion/ If this is the case, then youtube cover versions MAY be legally OK, as youtube is paying royalties the same as a bar or club owner will pay royalties through a PRS license. If youtube was identifying original content (as above), then didn't pay the copyright owner, then that would be a massive lawsuit waiting to happen, and I suspect that they are doing things within the law. IF SO, that's a big opportunity for performers to legally show what they can do when covering copyrighted material. Returning to the original question, if the OP needs a proper answer, they need to see a knowledgeable entertainment lawyer. There are just too many people with mistaken beliefs. For this reason, if we are to have a sticky copyright thread, can it please be written by someone who knows what they are doing and not a free for all for people to post myths on.
23. Acoustic round back guitars, and left handed Tele TE-20 dekos. http://www.thomann.d...dard_s_deko.htm http://www.thomann.d...850_bk_deko.htm http://www.thomann.d...600_bk_deko.htm EDIT: All gone.
24.
Has anybody tried the Revelation RJT 60 B - the Bass VI alike. Looks nice, decent price too, well below the latest Squier price! http://thebassgaller...-60-b-bass.html
I had a quick look, and The Bass Gallery says that the Revelation RJT 60 B has a 33" scale length. That's quite different from the 30" scale length of the Squier Bass VI.
