1. How much do they usually go for? What would you value that particular one at in its current condition?
 2. Can you ask him why the range of Wesley basses has been shrinking, with some of the more interesting ones disappearing?
 3. I like the look of the Gibson. Was that the first Violin bass? And the Hofner a copy? I always thought the Hofner was "the original".
 4. Westone Concord Bass. Collection only. BIN of £80. Starting bid of £30. Doesn't look wonderful I must admit. I'm presuming that this is Matsumoku made. Weren't the Concord guitars and basses among the first instruments released after the brand was created? EDIT: "Bought in the early 1980s". http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Westone-Concord-Bass...=item3cab469355
 5.
I sold something on eBay recently and was contacted by an eBay user about 15 mins after the bidding ended and was offered more to sell it to him. It sold for £40 but I was offered £75 to cancel the transaction and sell it to the other guy. I refused to do this and said that it would be massively unfair and I wouldn't do it on principle. Does this make me a mug or a good person?
It makes you a good person. Congratulations on being a decent human being. Of course, that might mean more if I had chosen a different username, but I'll say it all the same.
 6. Here's the Australian example. http://maclawstudent.blogspot.com/2008/04/...emt-thomas.html I do believe (but could be wrong) that to a certain extent Australian precedents may have some value in UK courts. But clearly a UK precedent would be more relevant.
 7. I would certainly file for non performing seller and leave negative feedback. I could bluster that I would also sue for loss of bargain, but I certainly wouldn't have the time/motivation to do it if it was me. Interesting case mentioned in this link though: http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/LEGAL-ADVICE-REG...T:-1:LISTINGS:2 This is from the point of view of a seller with a non-performing buyer though. And, I think that the writer is a bit over-optimistic on some points (e.g. that the buyer must continue even if the goods are not fit for purpose etc., and that these are "only dealt with by trading standards"). Another one here, arguing that a binding contract is formed by winning an auction on ebay. http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Uk...4/msg00127.html Though, later postings in that thread disagree, and some claim that no binding contract is formed when an ebay auction is completed. The only legal precedent I found is from Australia.
 8. Is this a Katie Price bass? On first glance, the body looks very impressive. But, the more you find out about it, the more you realise that it's just horrible.
 9.
He's had this for sale on Gumtree for the past few weeks for around £190, how comes he hasn't flogged it yet?!
Possibly because, as in the previous time it was auctioned, nobody wants to pay more than £87 for it?
 10. The same seller previously sold the same bass for £87, plus £17 p&p. Now it's up for £175 or best offer. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/exotic-wood-bass_W0Q...310131001r12267
 11. That looks amazing!
 12.
Buying new, if you find a good Squier Affinity Jazz then it surely must be considered value for money. Or a Westfield.
Not a Vintage Modified? The VMJs are going for about £220 lowest online price. Plus p&p of course. The Affinity Jazz is about £150 same deal. Surely the VMJ wins for value for money? No?
 13.
Interesting window full of JapCrap behind the bass...
That's the same shop that had the Ibanez bolt-on project. They sent me an email in response to my ebay message saying that they don't have a website yet, but are working on it. But, they listed a fair number of old Japanese/Other instruments they had. The normal names, Kay, Columbus, Jedson, etc. They also say that they might be able to get things that I want. BTW: If anyone's keeping track, I did get outbid for that Westone Thunder bass that I became worried about winning. Outbid by £7.
 14. Here's another "Jass Bass". http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Squier-Standa...=item35a7b8bf23
 15. The seller also claims that the Harley Benton bass has an RRP of £198. But it looks like an MB22-2T. Which costs £86 or so brand new. And the reviews are about what you would expect for that price. Even the Harley Benton bass which is Vintage Modified J-ish only costs £117. If an MB22-T is £86 new, would that make it worth £60 second hand? If the value of the SX is £75, and the HB £60, then the Kobrat bass would have to be worth £45
 16.
I've grabbed the beaten-up Ibby. I reckon I have enough parts lying around to sort it out. Wish me luck!
Good luck. Will there be a restoration thread with photos?
 17.
Top horn hacked off, frets ripped out & badly filled, neck binding gone, Ronseal refin, plywood scratchplate, no hardware etc. I sold that for £180.
£180!!!! Did you ever get to see what happened to it after you sold it? Did it get restored? Not serious here, but perhaps the buyer thought it more valuable as with the modifications it no longer infringes on anyone's intellectual property. Edit: "Tokia" (sic) Rockinbetter, also from Bolton. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/tokia-rockinbetter-r...=item4a9f6d099d
 18.
I never put in any bids until the last few minutes, I just watch items for most of their life. I see things getting bids when there's 10 days to go and it sometimes surprises me why the bids go in so soon...
My ebay searches are ordered by most recent listing time. When I'm putting in a lowball bid, I'm not really too concerned about the bid, because I have very little expectation of winning. Hence I just bung in a bid when I see the instrument in the first place, and then don't have to worry about it. I don't have anything emotional invested in my lowballs. E.g. I'm completely unconcerned that everyone knows what my maximum bid is for the Studio Lord listed above. I quite often revise my active listings and find things I've bid on but have completely forgotten about. And it has happened that I've found something interesting on the ebay, inspected the listing, and found it is me that's winning it.
 19.
Some sort of P copy with lots of upgrades, EMGs, Anodised scratchplate, heavy duty bridge. Rubbish neck though, stripped it, sold the parts and used the body for a frankenstein that is my main bass now.
Good one. It's very cool IMHO that the £17 bass body became your main bass. Even if it's got who knows what aftermarket parts on it, it's still cool! I've got no instrument buying budget at the moment, but I'm still continuing with lowball bids, as I think they're unlikely to come up anyhow. And if I do get a £400 instrument for £100, then I'll just have to ride out the extra couple of months budget recovery. The ebay buying equivalent of crying all the way to the bank I think. Here's a typical lowball from me. Apologies for it not being a bass What's this person doing, making increment after increment, and giving up at £60? Not sure I understand that. Oh, and sorry about anonymising the buying ID. Anyone regular on here who wants to know my buying ID, just PM me. Not sure about making it 100% public on a forum who whoever to see though.
 20.
..and bidding!
The Westone bid was made before I knew I was likely to buy the Cimar. I don't like retracting bids once I've made them. I'm only pence away from being outbid though, so perhaps in the last few seconds of the auction just when I'm bricking it ..... Edit: 5 hours to go. Still winning. Though, I must admit that I've continued my policy of lowball bids all over the place. I strongly suspect that none of these will come up within the budget recovery period anyhow
 21. SB600. If they didn't say, I wouldn't have known it was in the SB range. Colour scheme (poss non-original) and different pickup from the others. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-SB-600-B...=item2a0586ab62
 22.
I don't believe they fetch much. I have a couple lying around somewhere...
That's interesting for the future. But my guitar buying budget is negative after the Rickenfaker, and I'm STILL the high bidder on this Westone bass which is finishing today: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...em=120540731724 So, it's possible it may get pushed significantly more negative. At this point, even for small things, I want to stop buying until the budget recovers. Doesn't stop me looking however.
Ibanez 2388B bolt neck project: £229 BIN - if I had the parts to finish it (bridge, scratchplate, neck pup, electronics) I might well go for this one. Nice early Ibby copy - check out the massive square-hole tailpiece & full-width sparklies.
Is that really a good price? It's all scratched up, missing much of the electronics and various bits and pieces, and is a bolt-on rather than a set neck. And if you add on the postage, it's more expensive than my Cimar was. This is a direct rather than rhetorical question, as I don't know prices. I did look up the location of the shop mentioned in the ebay listing to see if it had a website or was easy to visit. No to both it seems, no website I could find, and in the furtherest away part of Nottinghamshire.
 23. Watchng this to see what they go for. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RICKENBACKER-4001-40...=item1c10d3f476
 24. A bolt-on from Bolton, no less.
 25.
This one is on its last day and isn't too silly yet, was thinking it's like a VMJ, but actually old.
I suppose it is an old copy of something that was current at the time, rather than a current copy of something that is now old. Or something like that. Going off topic, but I think Thomann are trying to tap into the Squier VMJ market with this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb1975_na.htm
