1. That’s kinda the point in this case. It’s not due to end for 400-odd years.
2. +1 to Neu. Neu 2 is one of my favourite albums. I'm not a fan of the genre label itself, though. It's lazy, reductive and based on an insult.
3. For me, it's Bullet in the Head by Rage Against the Machine due to the split between the fairly relaxed front half and the more manic back half. Fun times.
4. Thanks for the tip John. I had a look at his site but it doesn't seem like he does one to one tuition. Ach well. The hunt goes on.
5. Hello hive-mind I've been playing for about 2 years and I'm at the point of looking for a teacher. I've had a look for local teachers online but what I've seen doesn't really light my fire. They might be fine teachers but their sites don't inspire. I've looked at the well-known online tutorial sites but find them incredibly off-putting. I'm looking to concentrate on technique and tie it in to the theory I already know from playing other instruments so someone who will simply guide me through a standard bass book isn't going to work for me. I want insights. I work in Glasgow and live in Ayrshire so if anyone can vouch for a good tutor in this general geographic area, I'll stand you a pint. Fingers crossed.
6. I'm in love with Jazz basses and it has been great seeing all of yours. So here are mine! The white one is a 2016 Am Std and the natural finish fiver is an Am Elite which I got last week. If anything, it is easier to play than the 4 string standard (and I say that as someone with stubby fingers).
7. This is beautiful and has got me reconsidering my choice of builder for my next bass. After reading Alphers' site and seeing these pics, they tick all the boxes that are important to me. Thanks for sharing it.
8.
But, Sir, all your basses I'm your signature are bulk manufactured, CAD-CAM produced instruments designed to supply bulk instruments at a price for mass sales. Now you're looking at custom designed. That's a he'll of a jump.
Isn't this true of everyone who buys a custom bass, though? (Unless your first bass is bespoke, a Sadowsky or something equally super high-end, that is.) I'm really excited about making that leap some time this year.
9. Wow. Not sure it's for me but it's impressive! Thanks for the screen grabs.
10. Although I've not bought anything from Alan at ACG, I can attest to his approachability and service. We traded a few emails and he was very patient with me as we worked out what I was looking for. In the end what I wanted for that bass wasn't really where he was coming from and I respected that. I'll definitely be going to him for the next one though.
11. How about some details for those who haven't given up their privacy to the zuckerbot?
12. Hi all, my name is Jack - I'm from the west coast of Scotland and I've been playing bass for about 18 months. I keep myself busy in an originals band and a couple of jam bands and I'm having a blast. I've been lurking here for maybe a month and I like the vibe so I reckoned it was time to sign up.
