  1. Was indeed eBay! It’s an electrosocket type as opposed to a traditional tele style cup - I don’t like the rubbish fitting method on the tele cups. The one I got was available in chrome, black or gold..
  2. Nah. I don’t like shoreline gold either And on that bombshell!
  3. I’ve just tried a set of fender flats for the first time - I have basses with la Bellas, Thomastiks, and quite a few Chromes on (my preference) - the Fenders are pretty much as good as the others - I have a preference for the feel of the Chromes - but otherwise they are just as good
  4. The bare knuckle hand wound flat poles are very very good - but you might find them a bit pricey.. The Jess Loureiro one is also good - and the split coil is hum cancelling: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F183311274438
  5. Even something like a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder can make a big difference - what sort of sound do you like? Vintage, modern, high gain, punchy?
  6. Meh. Another average build there Andy Tee hee 😜
  7. Like I said... purist.
  8. 3 hour extended improv bass solo performance in modal Ab dim 9?
  9. Or, La Bellas > Pickup > DI Socket > Desk
  10. You must struggle with anything that has an infinite-possible-settings tone pot
  11. I have a Cioks DC-5 under my Nano. It is bulletproof, has done countless gigs, never seems to fail to power anything I throw at it, is very quiet. I umm'd and aaaah'd about the cost of it then went for it - so glad I did.
  12. I always fancied trying a clear guard with a cut out classic album cover on to see what that was like....
  13. You could wire it parallel and it would give you a 51 style vibe without the annoying hum too
  14. Ah so hum bucking then? Nice There's a lot of this custom-made 51P style pickup nonsense going on
  15. No pick guard then. It's the easiest solution and you can change your mind later when you've lived with it for a bit. BTW - what pickup you got in that one?
  16. Only joking You could go with a stick on Roy Lichtenstein - or is that a bit Paul Weller?
  17. Stick some paisley wallpaper on in the shape of a guard 🤭
  18. I tried that - it looks really odd - you need the screws for it to look "right" - so saw off the heads, stick them in the holes, and then double sided tape - then if you want to go guard less you can do...!
  19. Stick it on with some double sided tape and glue fake screw heads onto the pick guard. (I'm being about 75% serious actually..!)
  20. I knew I should have specced up a less practical truss rod solution for the neck. Dammit. I have, however, ensured that there is a built in weakness in the bridge metal so it lifts at the back over time..... 🤭
  21. Now there's an idea... You could call it the Flying FenderFortress
  22. Ash (for it is he!) is in my humble opinion, the best we have in the UK. His pickups are sublime. He gets massive respect in the guitar community and does some of the best guitar pickups around. His master wound custom stuff is properly good. If anyone out there in bass land needs a pickup for a project, or wants to upgrade a bass and put something hand wound in and really special then go give him a prod.. Lets just say a custom wind like this one would cost well under £100 - and closer to £50..
  23. You could always decoupage a Paisleyguard to put on it...
  24. He can always haphazardly fill them and daub some sharpie on top at a later date so no worries..
