1.
Yep... And the bass it's not a Jerzy Drozd, it's a custom made M2 (as it was written Jerzy Drozd in a previous post).
I stand corrected (d'oh!!)
2. This is a good idea! I'm in a band doing covers of various artists ranging from Stevie Wonder to The Kings of Leon. Here's our website: www.hennessyuk.com It's a four piece based in the Frimley / Basingstoke / Reading area - Shaun on vocals / guitar / harmonica; Mark B on guitar & backing vocals, Mark T on drums & yours truly on bass. We've been together for nearly a year & are gigging fairly regularly, which is always good.... Check our website out & let me know what you think, good or bad! Cheers, iamthewalrus
3.
What is it with single cutaways recently? It started on boutique basses a few years ago and now the manufacturers are doing it too. For example, personally i think Warwicks are some of the best looking basses around. Then this year they've gone and made a single cut thumb bass. http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/pro...22953&cl=EN ITS HIDEOUS!! I know there are tonal and ergonomic advantages, but i'd rather not be sick on my bass every time i see it. Am i the only one here or does someone agree? Thoughts?
I think it looks OK, would be interested in trying one out. There are worse looking SC's out there than this (Marmite factor). Cheers, imathewalrus
4. Great bass player, can't understand why he never makes a lot of people's top 10 or 20 bass players. I might be wrong, but isn't that him on Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from My Friends"?. If it isn't, whoever it is copped Radle's feel big time! Cheers. iamthewalrus

6. Thanks to everybody who took the time to respond to this, I think our drummer will probably go down the IEM route. We tried using cans with him on Sunday at rehearsal, but that didn't work out too well Cheers, iamthewalrus
7. Thanks for the bump - it does have a "Ray" type quality about it.... Cheers, iamthewalrus
8. Hi all, This is a question aimed at any BC'ers who use in ear monitors.... Our drummer suffers from tinnitus & is looking at trying to obtain a set of in ear monitors. The question is how do they link up to the PA system? Do they plug into a wireless pack or some kind of preamp & into the PA that way? Any advice or pointers to a website gratefully accepted! Cheers, iamthewalrus
9. Hi all, For sale, an Aria IGB68/5 5 string bass. Asking price is £250 + courier costs unless you want to do a meet up within a 25 mile radius of Reading. This bass has an Ash body, Maple neck with a Rosewood board. It also possesses two toggle switches, 1 x coil tap, 1 x active/passive option. Pickup on the bass is an Aria MM type pickup, control layout is Volume, bass boost/cut, middle boost/cut, treble boost/cut. This also comes in a Bass Centre / Hiscox hardshell case. Unfortunately I can't accept any trades for this, so it's cash only. PM me if you're interested, pics attached. Cheers, iamthewalrus

11. I think you'll find the fretting issue falls into a few camps on here (could possibly turn into a heated debate...). If this technique works for you & it's not causing you any grief (i.e: awkward wrist angles & tension that might lead to more serious issues down the line), then why not carry on with it. My own personal preference is to use 124 down low (frets 1 -5) & then use 1fpf from there onwards. I tried using 1fpf below the fith fret, but found it was causing me grief. Have a look at Dave Marks' tuition videos on YouTube - there's a particularly good one about tension in the fretting hand on there. Good luck! Cheers, iamthewalrus
12. Do they make them for a 35" scale bass? My Bass Centre one will only take a 34" Cheers, iamthewalrus
13. I've got a BB500H which I'm using with two Epifani UL-110's. I tend to use the Head & EQ pretty much as is, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what some of the previous posters are getting at (sorry, I'm thick!!!!!). Cheers, iamthewalrus
14. As an Overwater owner, I'd like to see what an OW singlecut would look like. I never used to be a fan until I saw Doodle's - after that my view on them has slowly changed. I wondered if they might be "neck heavy" but from all accounts, that's not the case. I'd love to try one out, but I don't know anyone who's got one (I'm scared that if I like it too much, I might start hankering after one, & I know I haven't got the dosh...). Over to Chris & Laurence methinks?
15. I wasn't, but I can still remember my trips to Wapping where there were always a few who wanted to be the next Mark King or Marcus Miller..... Those were the days
16. A Korean made Tobacco Sunburst Yamaha BB1100S - I sold it 'cos I needed to put some money towards my wedding. Without a doubt the best 4 string bass I ever owned, if I'm ever really flush further down the line, I'd get another one. Great tone, really comfy to play & built to last. Cheers, iamthewalrus
17. Have read this thread with great interest & reminds me of the discussion I had with the drummer at our gig last night. If you don't play music full time & you're holding down a 9-5, making the odd mistake here & there is par for the course. We're not robots, & making mistakes is part of the human condition. We've been making mistakes for thousands of years & will continue to do so until the end. The best thing to do is put a bad gig behind you & knuckle down as best you can. Practice makes perfect most of the time (unless you believe in the quote by Vince Lombardi, coach of the Green Bay Packers who won the first two Superbowls: "perfect practice makes perfect"). Chin up! Cheers, iamthewalrus
18. First gigging outfit (1986): Carlsbro Cobra 90 watt combo & an Ibanez Roadstar RB750. Now (2010): Yamaha BBT500H, 2 x Epifani UL110's & an Overwater Jazz 5. How times change....
19. Tommy Cogbill also did the original recorded version of "Memphis Soul Stew" by King Curtis (for years I thought it was Jerry Jemmott), as well as the bass part on Wilson Pickett's "Funky Broadway" (as mentioned & played by Jaco on "Modern Electric Bass"). In the pics I've seen of him with a bass in his hands, it was a Sunburst Fender P. I remember reading an article on him in an old copy of "Bass Player" mag (when it was still good) saying that he was a pretty good guitar player as well! Cheers, iamthewalrus
20. It was our first gig of 2010 last night (did 6 gigs between August & December last year) - did ok, but we were a bit ring rusty. Hardly surprising, given that we've only had one proper rehearsal this year following a recording session the week before. The weather put the kybosh on any of us getting together prior to that. Am just hoping the weather will hold off from now on as we could do with regular rehearsals happening now to bring us back up to scratch! Cheers, iamthewalrus
