  1. Wow, that's lovely. I saw Ian Allison online using one of these (his was a proper vintage one) to record with on his Insta and it just sang. Never had the inclination towards a hollow body bass before, but now I do! Alas, the timing is not on my side. GLWTS though, and have a bump on me.
  2. Ah I thought it was! That sounds like a great rig. I have one BF SC, and am contemplating the second. Out of interest, what bass are you using with that combo, and what style of music are you playing?
  3. One of my first ever cabs was Ashdown, a 2 x 12, can't remember what though. Sounded killer. Do you still run the two BF super-compacts, or is that @Merton??
  4. Very nice!
  5. Sage words @ClassicVibes Indeed you cannot. @Earbrass That is a good shout. Wait it out and see if the feeling persists. Hopefully, it will pass. Like I said in the OP, I think it is just a phase. I have been listening to a lot of The Mars Volta recently, and really like what Juan Aldrette does. He uses a fretless P/J. I think his is a 70s Fender P stock fretless with a bridge pickup added somewhere along the lines. The other thing is, I think new instruments can detract from practicing sometimes. Does anybody else get that? I am a member of SBLs, (Scott's Bass Lessons) and have really been enjoying the lessons and courses he offers. I think perhaps that another new instrument would take my attention and focus off what is important - which is to be able to play the bloody thing well!
  6. @Delberthot Guy Pratt is a bit of a beast isn't he. I had the pleasure of playing a Spector Euro 5 string in Bass Direct a few years ago. It was slighty out of my price range then, but I remember loving the Tone Pump circuit, and the B string was killer on account of the 35" scale. If the Euro series was that good, I can't imagine how good the US models would be. You're giving me GAS for something else! Fortunatley (Or unfortunatley depending on where you're sitting) what I'm GAS'ing for is a Sire V7 P/J fretless. The GAS is hard to combat as they're so affordable. My main basses are Fender USA and EBMM, so likely the Sire isn't on-par with that quality, which is one of the reasons which is stopping me.
  7. Hi all, During the current situation we find ourselves in, I have found myself GAS'ing for a fretless bass. I do not need a fretless, I have no use for it (other than to develop my fretless chops). I need some strong advice from people who have succumbed to the GAS and regretted it. Please dissuade me! I am not strong enough on my own. I have very limited will power. I'm fairly certain this is a passing phase. I am working from home at a PC all day, and occasionally find myself checking out fretless basses from online retail sites! Is anyone else experiencing this strange phenomenon?? Cheers all, Jack
  8. Great thread - looking forward to more updates! Jack
  9. That's banging! Quite a pleasing (aesthetically and aurally I imagine) setup! Already have the urge to buy a second SC... Ahh GAS. Where will it end. Jack
  10. I think it said “Get the f*ck out of my band” 😂 Open to interpretation really...
  11. Just bought one of these (Non D2) versions today. Tried it out in the shop against a MB Casa and Genzler M800 and chose this. Using it through a Barefaced Super Compact and it does sound excellent. I have no experience of past MB heads- this is my first one after upgrading from a combo. Only tried it at house friendly volume, but will report back once gigged! Jack
  12. @Al Krow The Genzler was a really versatile bit of kit, really liked it. In fact it did everything the LMV did and arguably more tbh, but there was just something about the LMV that I liked. For the music I play i don't need tons of options, and with a P bass with flats it did the warm vintage vibe a bit better for my ears. Plus, I'd be lying if I said I thought it looked cooler. I do with the LMV had a mute switch though! It does have mute as an option on the footswitch but not on the interface. Haha, I only took that picture to wind my bandmates up! They'd be mortified if I turned up at a rehearsal with that. Plus, it wasn't for me anyway. Nice bass, but not the kind of thing I'd go for. Jack
  13. Hello, If anyone's interested in the next chapter of this, I went to Bass Direct today and tried a few different heads to go with the Super Compact. Narrowed it down to three - Markbass Casa, Genzler Mag. 800 and the Markbass Little Mark Vintage. I came home with the Little Mark Vintage! Also this Strandberg was a laugh, great bass, but not for me! Jack
  14. Yeah that does look cool. I wonder if a 30W valve head is enough on larger gigs with a loud band though...
  15. Cheers for the advce @FinnDave I'm going to see how I get on with one, and then potentially add another in the future.
  16. This is my main thought. I'm likely going to try one tomorrow, and it'll take some persuasion otherwise to deter me from this. It just sounded bangin' with a P. Cut through the mix really nicely.
  17. Yeah, I mean there's nothing wrong with it NOW, but maybe three years down the line... We gig a lot so ideally I'd like something with less weight to it.
  18. Not a bad argument to be fair.
  19. @foxyFuze Thanks for the fender recommendation, however I'm trying to get away from that having just upgraded from the Rumble. Never heard an 800 though. @pbasspecial Cheers for the pics, some of those amps look really good together and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't also thinking about the aesthetic! Thanks @Lozz196 I haven't heard of that Ashdown either. I'm swaying towards markbass for some reason, but time will tell. Maybe also because Michael League and Joe Dart use them too!
  20. @acidbass Yes that's a good shout. Hopefully I'll be able to try one out this weekend. I've heard good things about the Ashdown CTM 100 if anybody has any experiences with this? Jack
  21. Thanks @jrixn1 I am not really much of a pedal guy. I have a small mono pedalboard on which lives a tuner, octave, compressor and sansamp DI and even then I don't use much of it. I don't need it to be super versatile really- just need it to do the warm fat flatwound thing really well, but I understand where you're coming from. Ta, Jack
  22. Thanks guys. @Chris B I've heard a lot of good things about the Quilter BB800, but I think I'll have to try one myself before-hand, cheers for the offer. I keep going back to the reason I bought this in the first place, when I played through one at a gig which was paired with an Aguilar TH500. Was really surprised at how good it sounded. @gary mac That's ace! Thinking I'll try this solo for a while, see how I get on and then potentially add another cab if needed in the future. Ta, Jack
  23. New cab day. It's a Barefaced Super Compact :D Need an amp to go with it, as I've upgraded from a combo- any suggestions? Will be trying out some class D heads this weekend. I play original R & B with a Fender P with flatwound strings. Excited! Jack
  24. Hank Marvin - really well known guitarist considering he spent most of his life in the shadows...
