1. It's funny, but I was thinking tonight that things were picking up around here. I went to see a friends band play at local pub. I don't drink, but I walked down to the venue anyway. Three of the pubs I passed had bands playing. I know that others that I passed have bands playing too, albeit on other nights of the week. So for a small town, on the edge of a large city, I think we do very well for live music.
2. Steve Lawson !
3. Having just taken delivery of an Acme B1, I can highly recommend them. I've tried 12" cabs by Berg, Epifani, Markbass, EA, Accugroove and others. My little Acme blows them out of the water, and they're a lot cheaper . The Acme B1 is a whole £150 cheaper than the Bergantino HT112ER, and it really is 'true accuracy', and really does produce a low B. I reckon two B1's would be an amazing rig, and could easily be used as a PA or a hifi.
4. This is in pretty much new condition. Comes with all the original packaging. I'd like a valve amp though, just for a change . So this is for sale for £350 or trade for a Shuttle 6.
5. Sure, as long as the money was worth it, ie after travelling expenses etc. I'd rather be at a gig earning £50 than at home earning nothing. Isn't it like any job ? If you're a postman or milkman for example, you may not want to get up if it's raining or snowing. I've played at venues that I haven't particularly wanted to play at. I just turn up, set up, do the gig and go home afterwards. I'd happily play with Gary Glitter, why not ? Same as I'd love to have played with Michael Jackson. Does anyone really get to choose who they work with ?
6.
KORG KDM-2 One of the few with a nice big start-stop button on the top too.
Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of, thanks !
7. I've got a Boss DB30 and a couple of clockwork metronomes. The battery has just gone in the DB30, I find it annoying anyway, it makes a horrible beeping sound. I find the clockwork ones too loud, they give me a headache after a couple of hours. I want a digital one that clicks instead of beeping. I want digital so I don't have to keep winding it up. It needs to have a volume control too. Any suggestions ?
8. I was thinking of getting this on vinyl, I bet it'd sound amazing. I very vaguely remember watching Mike record the soundtrack to the Blur Peter programme. I was only a very young child, but it was fascinating.
9. What amp have you got ? What's actually wrong with it ? A quick 10 seconds in the 'amps for sale' section and there's this http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=119691 Pretty cheap, and would be easier to carry around. I know absolutely nothing about you, or your situation. Do you drink or smoke ? How many times a week do you go out ? Do you buy junk food out ? If you've answered yes to the above questions then don't for a few weeks, and save the money for a new amp. Maybe you could borrow or hire an amp for your gig ? Ask at your rehearsal studio. I dare say that if your gig is at night time on a Friday or Saturday then the studio would be shut then, lots of rooms with amps in doing nothing. What I'm saying is that if you really love the bass, don't sell it. Sell your other bass instead, if you really need to sell something. Use the Warwick, but be careful with it. I have some nice basses, but I use all of them, they're still 'as new'. Instruments don't have to get knocked about. In the 90's I gigged a Jaydee for almost 10 years, I was playing up to three times a week with it, doing some very intense gigs. It was as new when I sold it to buy something else.
10. I do a lot of 'dep gigs' with bands all over the place. It mainly seems to be two 40/45 minute sets, with an encore. Though I'm doing a cruise in April, and she wants to do three 45 minutes sets !
11. Keep it ! There are loads of used and reliable amps for sale on here, that won't cost a fortune.
12. If there's one type of bass in the world that I'd like to own, it's one of these .
13.
If I were in the UK- (or if BF cabs were here in AUS- hint hint Alex.....) I'd probly go for one of them. We've got a great Bergantino dealer here in AUS-George @ Bass Gear Direct- & if his Berg prices weren't SO good, I dunno if I would've got them new like I did. I LOVE the Berg's tho. Everything from the NV215 to the AE112. Hard to go past Berg 12" cabs The HT & ER are great & the AE112 & 212 are superb also. Having BareFaced cabs in my local would be probly one of the only reasons for me to think re a change.
You can get Acme's in Australia .
14. I found 'Hanon the virtuoso pianist' to be a good book. Hanon the virtuoso pianist Use a metronome and just play through the exercises, it's a useful way to gain familiarity with the dots and the notes on the fretboard. You can adapt the exercises in there for your own use. Play them as quarter notes, or eighth notes, but use a metronome. Walking bassline transcriptions are also really, really good, but the Hanon book is very cheap.
15. There are loads of really useful and very informative threads on Talkbass about the Shuttle's. There's a guy on there who actually designed the amps, he goes by the name of 'agedhorse'.
16.
I've been using a Shuttle 6.0 for 5 months now with a Barefaced Compact and I've never experienced any of this supposed "lack of low-end". I use a 5 string and have never struggled with clarity on the low B... sure, technically the 6 rolls off at a higher frequency than the 9 - but to human ears (well my ears at least) it handles all the lows you'd need with ease... just my 2p!
I'm told that by switching in the 'low' button, then you actually lower the bass roll off thing to 31Hz, which is a low B.
17. The one I played was a red one. I think this looks nicer though. I see Steve Lawson has one (maybe ?).
18. Bump. I'm open to offers for them, if you've seen them cheaper then PM me. Please bare in mind though, that they are 'as new', and I'm including postage in the price.
19. I've always fancied one of these. I played one briefly a few years ago, it was surprisingly easy to play.
20. Is this the same one as last time ? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=alembic
21. This is a quote from Andy Lewis from Acme Sound, designer of Acme cabs. It's from the 'frequently asked questions section' on his website. Q. Should I put casters on my 4x10 cab? I was wondering if the B-4 is available with casters A. We don't recommend casters because they decouple the speaker from the floor, which ain't good for bass reproduction.
22.
Great! As I said in my email, if you want the depth and clarity of the B2 in a smaller package there's no other option. I wanted that depth and clarity but louder and look what I ended up doing...
Hi Alex, I really appreciated your honest reply to my questions. I know you have a lot of very satisfied customers, and you wouldn't have those if your gear didn't deliver. I'm really considering a Big baby at some time in the very near future.
