1. I think the biggest difference is that the Shuttles are class D. The bonus of that is the lack of a fan in the amp. I've found the EBS fans to be very noisy. Sound wise I think the Shuttle 9 would sound a lot warmer than the EBS or the Shuttle 6. The 9 is best I think for 5 or 6 string basses. The Shuttle 6 has a built in roll off at (I think) 45Hz, and from my experience EBS gear does the same sort of thing.
2.
Fixed for clarity...
Thanks !
3. Well I just ordered an Acme Low B-1, and I'll be ordering another one in a month or so. It seems that nothing else can compete with them for clarity and 'lowness'. Thanks everyone for all of your advice.
4. I just got this yesterday, but I'm a little concerned about the size of the display (my eyesight isn't what it was ). It's perfect, with the box and everything else, tracks superbly, and very fast even down to low B. It works in the polytune mode even on a 6 string bass ! Trade for a Korg Pitchblack.
5. Just a few more books, I have way too many ! A portrait of Jaco - the solos collection - SOLD. 6.
That's a stunning top you have there! What made you go for the individual bridge saddles as opposed to the block bridge, if you don't mind me asking? I know I won't be disappointed; the only bad thing is that all this talking about it is making me want it more. I guess it's not the worst situation in the world to be in though! Tom
I actually got it used would you believe ! The original owner ordered it like that, according to Chris, he saw a similar one on the website, and asked for one the same. It does make string changing a doddle. It's had four owners in 18 months, I'm the fifth. Don't ask me why because I have no idea, it's a fantastic bass. Even though I've been playing for 20 plus years, I'm actually new to Overwaters. I've seen their basses many times, but never bought one until now. I've really missed out on something !
7. They build these quickly don't they ? I know Sei has something like an 18 month wait time. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but this is mine. I got it a couple of weeks ago, I have to say it's pretty amazing. If yours is anything like mine then you won't be disappointed. I'm lucky enough to have a few nice basses, but the Overwater is definitely my favourite. The relatively wide string spacing, compared to my Zon, makes for such comfortable playing.
8.
Yeah i am a fan of Rush, i meant the notation, thats kool. might just take it off ur hands.
I see, if you're a fan then you'll love this. It's got the following songs in it - Working man 2112:overtures/temples of Syrinx Closer to the heart Xanadu La Villa strangiata The trees Freewill Spirit of radio Limelight Red barchetta Tom Sawyer YYZ New world man Distant early warning Presto Show don't tell Dreamline Roll the bones Cold fire Test for echo
9. As per my other thread, I'm after two 12" cabs, or maybe two 10" cabs to replace my Acme Low B2. Now the Low B2 is a simply amazing cab, ideal for people who want to actually hear the true sound of their bass, and particularly the Low B. I'm about to order the first of two Acme Series 3 Low B12 cabs. With shipping and the dreaded import duty/VAT I'm looking at about £500 for each cab. Now before I do this I'd really like to hear what people think of the Barefaced Midget cab. It's probably the closest thing I think to the new Acme cab, it may even have a similar driver. I know that Andy started off with a custom built Eminence driver, that's since been modified to Andy's specifications. Both companies offer a return if you don't like them option. I guess it'd be a lot easier and cheaper to return a Barefaced though . Now I know that no one in the UK will have tried an Acme Low B12, but is the Midget really that good ?
10. I didn't think about the Acme B1, that's another option. See, what I want is a couple of small cabs. I can use one for small gigs, and both for larger ones. I was thinking 12" cabs, mainly because of the better bass response, but the Acme B1 would be great. Once again, thanks everyone for your replies.
11.
The Rush book, it got music in it for playing along to?
How do you mean ? Backing tracks ? No, it's just the bass lines, in both TAB and standard notation. I guess they think that if you want to play the lines, then you'd be a fan and already have the albums.
12. It seems that Acme now do a 12". http://www.acmebass.com/ I've emailed Andy Lewis to ask about shipping . Thanks for all of your replies.
13. £500 per cab I guess.
14.
Just out of interest why those particular 4 and not the BF or Aggie? I could understand if the BF and Aggie had a similar sound which you dislike but they are absolutely poles apart in terms of tone and the Aggies aren't a million miles apart from some of the cabs you've shortlisted! Each to his own and I'm not plugging the Aggies in any way, I know that they won't suit everybody, but I am interested in the 'why' of your shortlist.
I want something flat and uncoloured, so I haven't got to EQ out something I don't like, or add something. I've had Aguilar GS112's in the past, they're very mid scooped, and the DB cabs have a mid bump. I've seen a couple of the BF cabs, and wasn't impressed with the build. Both people who owned them had had to contact the guy about something. That's not something I want from a cab that's far from cheap.
15. I got it last year with a DB that I bought, I'm not sure of the make. The only marking I can see on it is Primavera. It's one of these - http://www.djmmusic.com/itemMatrix.asp?Gro...mp;MatrixType=1 It's in 'as new' condition, as far as I can see, and comes with a nice soft case and resin. £25 posted.
16. Afro Cuban Grooves for bass and drums - funkifying the clave by Lincoln Goines - £12.50 - SOLD. Rush - bass anthology - £10 posted. The best of Marcus Miller - £10 - SOLD All are 'as new'.
17. I'm looking to replace my 2x10 Acme to a couple of 1x12's. I'm thinking of Bergantino, Markbass, Bag End, Epifani. I play mostly 6 string bass, so I want something that'll go deep. It must be fairly flat and uncoloured. I'm not interested in the Bareface cabs, or Aguilar.
18.
Ahhh maaaaaan!! Was lookin' to grab one of these lil babies, but had a GAS attack elsewhere and spent some pennies on that instead! I take it this one is a series II?
yes, it's a series 2. It's about 4 months old, i imported it direct from acme.
19. An 8 ohm super sounding cab. In excellent (new) condition. http://www.acmebass.com/ £400 including UK postage, or trade for a Markbass 4x10.
20.
Are these roundwounds?
Yes, roundwound hex cores, same as Mark King uses.
21. For a 5 string bass, 30, 50, 70, 90, 115 gauge. £15 posted.
22.
Without wanting to turn this thread into why do people order a custom bass thread..... some people cant get what they need from a conventional bass maker. I needed a 7 string left handed bass. I am sure people will argue the usual: Jaco, macca etc etc only needed four strings.... Well good for them but i need 7 to achieve what i am aiming for. Nothing wrong with 4 strings, nothing wrong with 104 strings as far as i am concerned.
I think my next bass may be a 7 string, though I want a fretless 6 too. Both will be Overwaters though. I know why people order custom basses, all of mine are 'custom' basses. I just find it odd that someone orders one, and then sells it almost straight away. I disagree about the mass produced instruments being the same, because they aren't. I've played hundreds of basses, and no mass produced bass compares with a hand crafted instrument. And there's no way I could use a P bass to cover what I do, it simply wouldn't work.
