Soliloquy

String spacing plays a huge role in the 'perfect' 6 string bass. I didn't get on with the Overwater that I had, the 19mm spacing was too wide. My Zon has 16.5mm as does my Jaydee Calibas, they're amazing to play.

I tend to wear my basses quite high, it makes playing easier and more comfortable. I want a wide, padded leather one. I struggle to find ones that are short enough though. Can anyone recommend a custom builder of such a product ?

Every Jaydee I've owned has been on the heavy side, it's a lot to do with the hardware. The string saddles, bridge and sustain block are all made of brass. Then there's all of the wood. I've had three Wal's, an all maple Stingray and an Alembic and they were equally as heavy as this. My mate's Fender Marcus Miller bass weighs loads too.

My new beautiful new Calibas 6 string. The serial number suggests that it's a 1988 model. It off to John tomorrow for a set up and service.

I've owned a few Trace Elliot items in the past. I think I had an SMX head, and maybe a Series VI. It was a long time ago though . Out of all the various models, which is best and why ? I did do a search on this last night, and after ploughing through 25 pages, I couldn't actually find anything like this question.
