  1. I recently purchased a 50W Carsbro 50-Top guitar head for a bag of beans lately. Looks looks like a decent enough head but the power valves were knackered so I've sent it off for a r-re-valve and check up. I plan to just play around with it but I've no Idea what to expect through a bass cab, I plan on using a barefaced two10. I reckon it'll be sensitive enough to get a respectable level of volume with it. Just wondering if anyone else has tried paring a valve guitar head with a bass cab? What did it sound like? I'm expecting one hell of a dirty racket.
  2. I read up on the Eastwood bass and the dot markers are where they would be on a fretted bass (ie not on the fret lines ) this isn’t ideal at all. (Would be better off with no dot markers)
  3. Ha, my luthier phoned me today and told me my bass was ready !
  4. Hi Frank, Im in Ireland , but I saw this lovely bass online. I owned a fretless in the past and I miss it. I was looking for a shorty as I play in very small venues.https://eastwoodguitars.com/products/classic-4-fretless
  5. Hi All Has anyone ever played a short scale fretless? I imagine its a little less forgiving regarding intonation accuracy?
  6. I would , except I live in the sticks in Ireland and am far too lazy to go driving to a professional in Dublin 🤣. Anyway yer man is excellent but does things ‘in his own time’
  7. Addditionally .a valve amp shouldn’t take any longer than a week to revalve and check up....mine has been in the store for a month already 😩
  8. It’s an acoustic bass that needs either the preamp repaired or a new one installed. To be fair I said I wasn’t in a major panic ...but still, a message to say ‘it’s knackered’ wouldn’t hurt .
  9. How long do you think is long enough to leave your instrument/ amp with luthier or amp tech before enquiring as to the progress of the repairs ? Where I live, there are aren’t many people who do this as a full time job and are really doing this as a nixer, so I don’t really want to annoy these people...but at the same time it’s slightly frustrating when you hear nothing back for 2 months .
  10. I have recently acquired a carlsbro top 50w guitar head , I was thinking of using this as a ‘dirty’ head and using my Ashdown ctm 100 as a ‘clean’ head. Run them independently into separate cabs ...see what happens 😆😆😆
  11. Hi people thinking of trying to split the signal from my bass into 2 amps . What’s the best way to do this ?
  12. Really really like the look of the new fender jag player basses, I mean , I have better basses currently but they look really really cool. So glad they dropped all those silly switches and made a straight forward pj passive bass with them.
  13. This site is the worst for triggering my gas! Ive a particular weakness for valve amps
  14. I’m over in Ireland so I can see things getting cheaper and cheaper from the UK everyday . I hope they can sort something whereby we can avoid import taxes etc. I buy and sell 90% of my stuff from Brits because it’s a huge market.
  15. How much would it cost to post to ireland ?
  16. After much deliberating on a low wattage valve head a guitarist friend of mine asked me if I was interested in buying his British made Carslbro 50 top (for a song). So I've sent it off for a service and I just cant wait to hear what it sounds like. I'm not expecting a creamy low end clean sound but I'm hoping at least to have some fun with it.
  17. No - just a regular power valve replacement+bias and a general health check. It needs a once over anyway.
  18. Really giddy at the prospects of firing it up. Taking an absolute age to get the valves sorted, 😫 I'm from the south coast of Ireland and my local shop has to send it to Dublin to a 3rd party...Still in the store a week after dropping it in ! 😣 A Serious lack of amp techs here!
  19. I intend to use a barefaced two10, so I should be OK.
  20. Here's a photo of one .(Mine is away being re-valved) . I'll see what it sounds like with bass as-is. I have another 100W bass tube head so I don't really need another. Might be fun to have a 'dirty' sounding head for bass.
  21. Hi Folks, Thanks for the info..I've decided to leave the head 'as-is' and simply get it serviced. Its a late 90's British made Carlsbro 'Top' 50W/25W head. I figured it was a decent enough guitar head and tinkering too much with it it would ruin any potential re-sale value. I have a decent bass cabinet (Barefaced). I'll see what she sounds like after the service. I reckon if I keep the gain fairly low and drive the back end I'll be able to get a decent amount of bottom end. If I think its too 'guitary' I'll sell her to a guitarist that will appreciate it more.
  22. Hi folks I'm looking at a bargain of a 50w valve guitar head that just needs an few EL34 power tubes. I'm toying with the idea of buying it for bass use. Is it possible to convert a 50W valve head for use with bass? is is a big job?
  23. I just want something I can try and learn on, so long as it sounds reasonably good and the actions not crazy high id be happy...wont be using the bow much I reckon.
