  1. I play with a ctm100 and it’s loud ‘enough ‘ but not earth shatteringly loud . It doesn’t have tons of headroom either. I have a 500w AB MOSFET trace Elliot and it would eat it for breakfast
  2. Yes 30w is 30w at the end of the day . It might sound as loud as a 100w class d amp . From experience 100w is probably the entry level for a useful amp for valves
  3. The CTM-30 is a great sounding amp but I really recommend scouring the internet for a second hand CTM-100
  4. If you had a really good efficient cabinet, like a barefaced two10, you might (just) get enough volume out of it . You’d really be surprised how loud they get
  5. The pickups in the bass have a very high output especially in the mid/lows , they are Delanos with big single pole pieces per string.
  6. Hi All I currently have a Mayones Jabba Passive (Jazz) Its a great playing bass. The bass comes with a the standard vol/vol tone set up however it also has a series / parallel switch which is quite handy for boosting the signal. I like it in passive mode but the tone seems a bit dark? I play my Sandberg California in passive mode or else flat across the and it seems much brighter in comparison. I'm using the same strings and if anything I would expect the jabba to be brighter as it has a hardwood maple fingerboard whereas the Cal has a rosewood finger board. Is it the capacitor , tone pots ? I can usually get around this by using an EQ pedal.
  7. It has a fair amount of bass as-is and the option to use it as a guitar head is there. I don’t really intend to gig with it but it’s tremendous fun!
  8. Apparently you can modify a valve guitar amp at the input stage to bypass a high pass filter (or something🤔) to get more bottom end but I like the sound of it unmodified. I already have a ctm 100w bass head, that does warm round bass tones to a T, so this is something different.. there is ‘enough’ bass from the guitar head (if you crank the bass to 10 😂)
  9. Don’t dismiss valve guitar amps. I picked up an early 2000s 50w Carslbro Top for very (very) small money. It’s powered by 4 x 12AX7 valves in the front and 2 EL34s at the back. Plugged it into a barefaced two10 and it sounds amazing. A bonus is that it has a dirty overdriven channel that sounds wicked with bass. If you like a chunky p bass with plenty of attack this it for you . If you’re after silky smooth low end with crystal clean top end, look elsewhere...but you won’t have as much fun !
  10. I didnt realize it only had one handle...until you pointed it out
  11. Sounds good (except for the weight)
  12. Still can’t beat 4 x kt88 at back end
  13. I used 12AT7 valves when I had the terror bass , makes it much less ‘gainey ‘ and clean sounding . They have about 60% of the gain of the 12AX7
  14. Probably the 1st gen either 500 or 1000w imo they were nearly too loud and aggressive sounding. They dialed back the power to 250/500w and added a clean channel . Should be more ‘multipurpose ‘
  15. I’m in a situation where I play bass for various ‘groups’ of musicians (due to lack of bassists ) so I’m usually introducing one insecure diva to another ... usually end in tears with me in the middle (the drummer is also usually in 5 other bands and doesn’t care ). I love just standing at the back of the room with a few beers on the go and playing great bass lines .
  16. The lethality of valve amps and all the warnings etc . Checking valves by banging them with a pencil etc. they are the equivalent of steam locomotives.
  17. Because valve amps are for real men and are meant to be heavy, that’s why 😃
  18. The dreaded p v j argument or active v passive argument.?
  19. Once again I’m in a band where I have to pour oil in the waters and once again it’s a guitarist and Vox. Is this something that goes hand in hand with the low end ? I just think we’re a non egotistical breed (John waters excluded)
  20. I went after the guy I sold my gen 1 to to see if he’d sell it back ...serious sellers remorse
  21. Just looking at the latest Terrorbass offering from Orange. Clean switch 250/500W output surge protection AX7/AT7 input stage. Look really really good. I had the first gen, while it was a great sounding amp I had reliability issues with it (which were sorted by an amp tech). Wondering if anyone has tried this yet?
  22. Yeah...I'm not sure about those, its very early days yet, time will tell an the verdict of those tube amps, almost pulled the trigger on the 50t when they were going cheap on Kennys site in Scotland.
  23. Had rehearsal with my ‘rig’ tonight . Very interesting tones from it . Meaty midrange , sounds great with a p bass, throaty. Not the deepest lows in the world but I have other amps that can do that . I’m leaving well enough alone 😃
  24. Was also considering the GK 115 cab. lightweight and just £264, has a tweeter. Must sell off something first.(Dem's the rules)
