  1. My little home set-up
  2. I’m beginning to think it’s probably less risky to use a subwoofer with a built in crossover
  3. As far as I know the tops are general purpose 300w pa speakers , if the additional powered bass cab would give the overall sound a little “push” I’d be happy enough
  4. I had a Carlsbro 50 Top guitar head and that sounded great with bass. A lot of people dont realize you can get that valve tone with bass using a guitar head so long as the transformers in the amp are up to it.
  5. Quick Question, I've an 800W / 4 ohm oldish Schroeder cabinet, could this be repurposed as a woofer to accustom PA tops. I have an 800W thomann power amp. Would I just destroy the drivers with kick drum etc?
  6. With regards to the Bugera, do you think it has enough bass response?
  7. Its Ashdown, they recommend (required) JJ valves. I reckon its because the are manufactured in Slovakia and are apparently more reliable, everything is rebranded and made in China or Russia.
  8. I work as a Chemist in a medical device company so music is just my release and thankfully I don't rely on it financially, however I must say I really really miss playing live music to folks.
  9. I think I remember Alex saying it doesn't make any difference what way you stack them. I generally stack them horizontally as I have mostly big valve heads .
  10. Second vote , the “four” series very complimentary to valve heads
  11. I dont see many BVV3000s going for sale. I heard that they were just not cost effective to produce so they were discontinued. I dont even see second hand ones coming up that much. I suspect they went wrong and weren't worth fixing. I remember it as being fairly solidly put together though. Not knowing anything about electronics I recall the innards being mostly standard PCBs...but you can say that about a lot of expensive amps also.
  12. I bought a Bugera BVV3000, essentially an SVT knockoff...I feared it was just going to fail so I sold it on before anything went wrong with it. Sounded marvelous though.
  13. I don't really like the look of the front of it, that aluminium/chrome control plate and the knobs look as cheap as chips but that's just cosmetics. But still...4 x EL34s. My favorite valve.
  14. Can somebody PLEASE buy this amp and make it unavailable to me https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/b-stock-peavey-tour-vb-2-bass-amp
  15. I found out that not only does my amp not take anything other than KT88s they have to be by a certain manufacturer 😲
  16. You’re probably right , if you turn the eq down to everything you get no signal
  17. Bargain to be had here gorgeous sounding amps
  18. Yep I found that I had to crank the master all the way to get a clean loud tone . The passive eq on the CTM series also needs a bit of getting used to . I normally have the mid turned up high and the bass /treb at 12 o clock . I don’t use the mellow switch that much . I just think it scoops the sound too much . I have the bass and treb set high alright
  19. Only use the JJ valves (see above) . Don’t bias them in the red of the dial, when setting up your amp plug in the speaker cable first, then the power cable so you accidentally switch on the amp with no load . Turn on amp power, tune bass, Set up pedals etc, then turn on standby in that order. After gig /rehearsal turn off amp first, then put away bass pedals etc . Move the head at the very end (I.e everything in reverse). That’s what I do anyway 🤷‍♂️. They’re very reliable If you treat them right . They don’t blow up like some class d amps I had !
  20. Did a bit of research on the Ashdown CTM (thinking of replacing power valves) apparently you have to use the JJ KT88s 🤷‍♂️ . Just as well they’re the cheapest
  21. Has anyone ever used KT90 or even KT120 valves in an amp designed for KT88s? How did it go?
  22. I’m surprised your amp has only one speaker out , are you sure you don’t have a speakon and 1/4” out that’s often the case.
  23. I’ve had a number of SS and hybrid amps with fans, the only one I found to be excessively loud was an orange terror bass I had , that was very noisey. I had a SS trace head that used a heat sink and fins . That worked fine and no real noise, weighed a bit though. At the moment I’ve Ashdown Spyder that has 2 fans, you can hear them but they’re not intrusive at all,
