    @Beedster I haven't opened mine up, I've only got a shot of the cavity from when it was being spraying, but looking at the size and layout, I'm going to assume it takes some space!

    In all seriousness though, its versatile as F#ck pardon my midlands accent roll back on the fat MM for huge farting bridge pickup goodness, solo the P for well, that P sound, blend them together for a full fat bigger than Jazz, Jazz bass sound. one good thing about the John east stuff is the active blend so i dont think you get that standard scoopyness, I dunno, I'm not that technical. If I had a fender style bass, deffo get the J-Retro, anything else the uni stuff, think it's more of less the same, just form factor etc. Just enquiring with Chris at Alpha now about my next build! wallet forgive me!

    Hi Mate My alpha is not too far from your set up Although its a Nordy Bigman + NP4A (reverse P) with a uni pre as opposed to the J-retro. works a treat, off the top of my head there are gain trims for each pup, as well as giving it a good go over on pup heights etc, Does it work? hell yes!

    I play bass in Syncolima, we are a Notts / Derby based original stoner / grunge band. Formed at the end of lockdown whenever that was, just trying to ramp things up a bit now! Approx. 30 odd gigs a year, Our 3rd album coming out in September, followed by a modest tour in November.     Nice one, get the sound you want out the cab it's gonna be 98 percent there going out your Di, any other cab your gonna be compensating for that baked in tone, sound great in stage, but Di feed is not gonna be what you sound like. Persevere, as it took me some doing and I have super compacts with tweeters, although I have a medium ISH pedal board and I love my sansamp!

    I went from BF 10's to 12's It does take some tweaking! but you will get there and be better for it. As the super compacts are "honest" with no baked in tone, you really just need to give it one, the great thing then is what comes out your DI into the PA will be more or less the same as the cab. Keep going, if its brand new the speaker does need running in a bit too!
