Bernies showroom is still in the basement of Seven Dials Music - at Seven Dials. The main GB workshop and EBS warehouse has been moved to Peacehaven. Dont know what is going on at Sydney Street.

There is also the Sandberg California P. Thats a heck of a lot of Super P basses we have collectively come up with - in addition to Fenders own offerings of custom shop and jap re-issues. Not sure if 20 year old Ibanez Blazers was exactly what the OP had in mind though.

There are also the Lakland Duck Dunn and Bob Glaub models.

Dont forget lots of amps pre-shape or contour should really be labelled "slap".

And not forgetting Status Retro-active and Vintage ranges.

OK its a bit Jazz shaped but pure P pup. I'm sure old git will be along shortly with his 5 string Shuker. Celinder do a P and there are a few on here. And dont forget Leo's own P update - the Stingray.

Best thing to do is try before you buy then you can hear the difference. If you can get the shop to spin a CD through a PA and play along to that as this will give you a better idea of real world sound.

Spend as much as you can afford - I would pay the extra for the Peavey TNT over the Max. Try before you buy. Avoid Laney and Behringher - resale values as well as naked snobbery.

I never gave much thought to this endorsement malarky but having seen all the dudes (or should that be dopes?) getting ready to pony up their hard earned for the MM Sig SWR i'm not so sure. I know at least one member on here that only got a GB cos Mark King played one and the extent of his knowledge of the bass was "its the same as Mark Kings", and who now plays a Status King Bass. Mark King only stopped using GB's because Bernie would not give him a slack handful of Rumour basses.

Try all the options and buy the one you like the sound of best. Not easy if buying blind on the web mind. Cant see the point of getting a 2x10 and a 4x10 - just get 2x2x10s.

The EBS and DHA all have a lot of happy users on here.

Your action is too high if you cannot fret properly or you cant adjust the intonation (pitch of fretted notes) and play in tune.

Well you dont see many taped over headstock logos so I dont think it is consistant thing. Dont get many gratuitous headstock shots of stuff that is not Fender/Gibbo either mind.

It was no used in the context of ERB's though - that was just me winding you up My pair cost me just over 3k - I think it was money well spent cos it was what I wanted. You got what you wanted. As the guy who built my bass said - "I can put some strings and pups on a table and get a noise out of it - but it would be a c*** to play". Some people are prepared to do that with ironing boards and call them ERB's. You pay your money.....

GB's dont have to have fancy wood tops!

I asked another builder what the difference was between bolt on and through neck and he said "the size of the bill!". Obviously if you dont want a heel then you have to go through neck or set neck but if you rarely venture to the dusty end it probably makes no difference.

Well my GB's are not copies of Fenders, rather inspired by Fender. Like you say its down to personal taste but I have never played another fretless that comes close to singing the way mine does. Its also a matter of personal choice. I think my GB's will be loads better than your Geddy but thats my opinion but also why I chose to spend my money on having them made. Other people may chose to spend their money on a 9 string monstrosity - thats their choice.
