  1. I had an issue on Fender where I got a rattle from the G string. The reason was that the saddle wasn’t compressing the spring and the spring would make a sound. Easy fix once identified (and not Fenders fault!)
  2. It also doesn’t take into account variations. A custom colour instrument will be worth more than a refin, for example. What’s interesting is that Andy Baxter has the best collection of vintage basses I’ve ever seen, but there’s barely any turnover. That’s more significant than the graph here.
  3. yeah it’s a shame. The 60s one here has some red flags. Refinishes can hide all manner of previous horrors, wrong decal applied, inconsistent dates between parts. (Hung around the shop floor? BS) Theres no guarantee its anything like what somebody says it is unless it’s supported by rock solid provenance. If we start considering guitars as antiques or pieces of art, this will become more important.
  4. Not sure about that one. There are too many inconsistencies, parts look too nice, I recently picked up a vintage bass from a well known retailer. Fitted new strings and tried to adjust the truss rod and it’s seized. Finished with vintage and instead gone for Vintera for something that actually works. (Old one off for a refund)
  5. Looks cool. Never lean it against the wall balanced against the neck though, it’s a receipt for disaster. Find a corner (preferably one away from a radiator!) and place if there.
  6. I hate selling them when you have to send them. That’s one reason for not buying too many.
  7. I have the one I won’t sell, rbe one I gig with and a backup. Any more than that is superfluous. I’ve had rooms full of them before and it was ultimately pointless. So I keep the main 3. I recently bought a vintage Burns bass for £100 (worth about £1500) and the guy told me I had to keep it and play it not sell it on to make money. So I’ve abided by that. I’ve also bought a new vintage bass so currently have 5.
  8. Thanks team. Once again the best bass community in the world.
  9. yeah it’s definitely an Aria but without the name I don’t know what to search for! It’s one to add to the ‘wants’ pile. I’m not going to pay a premium for it, but I’ll file it in the same box as Burns Flyte.
  10. I know its an Aria (But don’t know the model).
  11. Lots of questions… What bass, strings and pedal set up are you using? Its easy to blame the amp but worth considering other variables (including technique).
  12. once a buyer asked me to deliver an item (giant bean bag!). I put it in the car and drove to their flat. I rang the bell and…. They switched the lights off, closed the curtains and pretended they weren’t there. It was actually quite funny. What was less funny was the guy messaging me again asking for details and if he could pick it up. People are genuinely mad.
  13. People don’t understand the emotions going on here. I think that people can be very cruel at times without realising it. When I’ve seen things that are advertised incorrectly, I’ve messaged the seller to point this out politely. Hope things get better for you and your wife.
  14. He’s recently released an album of his own compositions. Given its primarily bass-led it’s hardly going to be a big seller, is it? The YouTube videos probably pay for him to go that. All power to him!
  15. That’s a fascinating video. This is when YouTube can really help.
  16. He’s a new type of musician/artist that makes money with videos online. It baffles me that people would spend their time watching this stuff but people do - and it’s highly lucrative (apparently). I think it supports his musical career, which is cool.
  17. Story of my life… This bass is a bargain and I want it (but have already bought something this week)
  18. Still here. I have some time over the next few days to pack up and post if you’re interested.
  19. Do you think that Tom and Johnny were operating at this level of theoretical complexity or simply played a series of chords they liked? Similarly, it’s unlikely (but not impossible) that Charlie Parker was thinking processing all the complex substitutions at 300 bpm.
  20. I really don’t know. Given this is a Squier, I’m pretty sure they’d use the same bodies as a normal Tele (to save cash) so would assume yes. This one certainly does: https://www.squier-talk.com/threads/purple-squier-sonic-esquire-ngd-plans.202372/ If you’re interested I can remove the guard and take a look.
