  1. Hi all. It’s months since I bought the attached from a nice bloke down here. The lateness of this post does not reflect my satisfaction! I believe it’s a Charvel 2B from around 1986, made in Japan. I did cursory research but once the instrument was in my hands I’d have bought it regardless of provenance. The neck is gorgeous, quite a bit slimmer than my other 4-strings, and it has great balance despite the enormous headstock. The body is a bit battered but I don’t care. It sounded ok at bedroom level, much better with new strings, but the output level is way down on my other instruments. Hence I’ve sourced an EMG GZR PJ set to replace the original Jackson pups. Fingers crossed.
  2. Here it is (on facebook marketplace). If you’re not local enough I’ll go get it for you for beer money. Love these guitars....
  3. Pretty sure i saw a Tom Araya signature bass listed recently (not on here). You could strip it if it’s a but rough. I’ll try to dig out the ad.

  5. I have the four10 (8-ohm). You’re welcome to come and try it... One of the features of this cab is how easy to drive it is. By that I mean, for my money it’s louder than a 4-ohm 4x10 of another flavour. Do BF still do 30-day trials? Maybe worth a call.
  6. Hi there. Sorry for the slow reply. I’m in Winchester. I do grt around a bit though... perhaps we can come to an arrangement!
  7. Hi Binky. Cheers for the offer but I think that may be too far...
  8. Bulgaria is no problem, as long as you pay my petrol money and a week's lodgings!
  9. Hi. Working perfectly and 100% solid, this is a really good cab (if a tiny bit scruffy and oddly not black). As you can see it's slightly narrower than a Marshall JVM head, but still has maximum stage cred or studio capability. Switchable for stereo (8R per side) or mono at 4R or 16R, rated at 240W. I don't have exact weight or dimensions but please ping me if you're serious. Reasonable offers considered, delivery possible for backache money. Cheers Jim
  10. Two bass bins in great condition. 15” drivers, front ported, with top hat and carry handles. Not too heavy! The original model is “Ekho SUB20 15 Inch 250W 8R Sub Woofer Bass Bins” although the specifications may not exactly the same. I have removed the cheap low pass filters but those are available at no cost. Can deliver locally (Winchester) if required. Sensible offers considered. Cheers Jim
  11. Hi. Please take my old-school Marshall head and play some rock with it! These have a really good reputation for rock sounds. Mine is working perfectly and is very presentable too. No case but fits any 19" rack. Switchable boost channel, really good contour and eq. Also has a bi-amp output if you're feeling clever. Delivery within 50 miles possible for petrol money, or come try it out in Winchester. Cheers Jim
  12. I have the OB1-500, been my main amp for 8 months. I use it with a barefaced four10. It's a really excellent piece of kit. The clean sound is huge, even with my 8-ohm load I never get above 4 on the dial (very loud band). I didn't really choose it for the dirty channel, but the blend and dirt are exceptionally good, way better than the big muff I used to use. Can't recommend it enough. Come and try mine out if you're in Hampshire.
  13. Not a bad idea... anyone got a wiring diagram? Perhaps I could replace a volume with a series/parallel switch??
  14. Thanks for those recommendations. I am a fan of SD. However, checking the dimensions of the 5 String QP Jazz Bass Neck, the distance between top and bottom poles is 2.76 inches, way bigger than the string spacing on my bass (2.5"). Should I be concerned? BTW, I've failed to find the Hot Stack in a 5-string neck position.
  15. Hi alI. I have two fairly cheap Peavey 5-strings which are my main instruments. As a lefty, I'm not likely to replace them anytime soon (cost, scarcity) and I like the way they play in a workhorse kind of way. The pickups and electronics are stock, which is to say cheap, pair of j-type pups with two volume and one tone pot. However I'm not mad about the sound. Changing strings and settings really makes very little difference. I tend to use roundwound 45-130 and make them last forever. Tone and volume are always on full, and I use the neck pup rather than the bridge to get a scooped sound (think Duff or Steve Harris). I'm not looking for a variety of sounds, just the one, but what I get is wooly and kinda thin. By contrast, I have a precision style 4-string bitsa which I love the sound of. It has a passive EMG Geezer split P which I believe is the key component. So here's the crunch. I'm leaning towards replacing the pickups and possibly the controls & wiring too. I don't want to go active, although the wiring cavity is huge. Ideally I want a big deep grindy sound like the Geezer, without having to make changes to the body of the guitars. Suggestions please! Cheers, Jim. PS. I play rock covers and the budget needs to be less than a new guitar.
  16. I have a passive bitsa precision which is by far the best sounding bass I’ve owned, clean or dirty. In my opinion this is mostly down to the EMG Geezer Butler pups. I highly recommend them There is a ton of growl there, admittedly with regular rounds which are well worn.
  17. I used to have one of these, but sold it to a mate locally. If you draw a blank I can probably help you compare with that one.
