1. Mmmmmm. Lush warmth
This is a tru oil finish on a bass I put together. I love the look of it and its easy to apply, but offers no protection whatsoever and anything underneath is clearly visible so if the differing grains are likely to niggle you then a darker or solid finish may be a wiser option. Good luck with your build !
2. It seems to be out already. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freak-Upside-Story-Family-Destiny/dp/1847443141/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321308291&sr=1-1
Until we get our hands on his memoirs, check this book out: http://www.amazon.co...o/dp/1900924560 Opens your eyes up to what your ears already knew - that there was a lot going on with Chic than just disco. Not to put disco down (I am a self confessed disco slut) but they were unfairly tarred with that brush, so when disco's popularity waned, so did theirs. Anyway, check it out - totally worth the price of admission.
3. The neck is stable. The "repair" would be a couple of screws with washers just to pull it in at the neck/body joint. It would be the same kind of effect as shimming it. It is not structurally weak. I get the feeling it could tell some stories
4. Hi Rich. The neck is stable. I'm afraid that a sideways F plate would be too big. It would need to be approx 2/3 of that size. The HUGE slab of brass down the back is kind of a neck plate which is holding the neck further down so it is certainly not going anywhere.
5. Ugh those pics are not super sharp either, but better than the first ones. I can do better ones again (or at least try) if anyone wants anything specific. I have tried to show the butchers block construction of the body, that is lots of inch thick pieces of wood glued together and then cut to shape.
6. Better pics. On reflection, the iPad camera is not at the cutting edge of photography! I will leave the Beasty Boys sticker on it
7. I am presuming that it is the original finish, but I really do not know. There does not seem to be any additional finish on it. It is not the Hondo one, it is a made in the USA original. I will try and get some sharper shots when I can work out how to connect the proper camera to the puter.
8. I have one of these I am just not using. The hardware is mostly original - Grover machines, brass bridge with MAHOOSIVE brass saddles, twin DiMarzio P pickups, huge brass plate on the back. The neck is set into the body all the way to the bridge. It has fullsome mojo as you can see from the pics. It is 10lbs and 13ozs. The scale length is 32.75" ish. It has a pretty beefy tone with the twin P pickups in it. The controls are vol/vol/tone + pickup selector switch. The tone does not seem to be working. The neck has taken a knock at some stage in it's life and could usefully be given a couple of screws where the neckplate on a normal bass would be. It is absolutely solid and stable to work as it is with a medium action. If you are old you will remeber these. If not, then welcome to the 70's It a solid piece of US made craftsmanship. I am struggling to price it so am open to negotiation, but will probably start at £300 and see what happens. Want it you know you do

it is nice as it stands and was my main bass for many years, but it is pretty heavy and I fancied a change Jon has the neck and is shaping the neck pocket to fit. It is going to be lush.

It should be with me by middle of next week Some luthiers are like some drummers - time is often an abstract concept rather than a linear process.
12. I ordered one of these for my ACME 12" cab. They had not made one before, so I did the measurements. I hate doing measurements cos I always get them wrong. I did. They emailed me to tell me that they were wrong because they did not add up. I re-measured and then they worked. They made me a great cover. I am happy.
13. I must confess that my immediate reaction was "Eddie Van Halen sig Alembic - crazy!"
14.
Certainly will! A nice leopard skin one perhaps...
Now that's what I call tasty!

16. Sorry, I came over all "MB1" there.
17. Just turn your amp up.
18.
I've currently got some prototypes of a new hybrid on my main working bass and have to admit that they're very promising - a bit higher tension, but really responsive under the bow with a lovely thud at the beginning of a pizz note and a brighter sustain (they'll even work with a magnetic pickup) - i actually don't want to take them off, which is a good sign!
You are teasing us!

obbm's feedback

Dave bought my cab. He was gracious and prompt as usual.
20. I will also speak for the honeys. I have spent a LONG time looking for a decent hybrid. None of them actually do both, but honeys are the closest I have found.
21. I cannot deny, they are great socks £1200 includes delivery, and I am open to negotiation.
22.
£50, I've put it in the subheader thing.
I TOTALLY KNEW THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry)
23. Somebody make this go away, please.
