  1. Do you know who's voice it is? At the time - the seventies - we had a surge of new and exciting scifi on TV and in the cinema. The clip I referenced above reminded me very much of the cantina scene from Star Wars' first release. I don't know quite why. I mean... they sound nothing like each other to me now. Somehow your album evoked that vibe and my imagination did the rest. The cover art also gave off a strong vibe. I had been choosing scifi paperbacks because they tended to have evocative artwork like on the sleeve of V2035. I picked the album out of the rack because I thought it had an image of an overhead UAP (UFO for us older folk) landing at speed. The LP's content did not disappoint even though I had heard nothing like it before. It wasn't until I'd played it for the nth time that I realised the cover image was an artistic view of a phonograph tone arm touching down on an LP as seen from the LP's POV. It certainly sold your work for you in my case.
  2. Gear heads anodise a lot of bolt on goodies for their 'bikes and cars. As colour finishes go, anodising stands out without making ally parts look less metallic and more plastic-y.
  3. I'm bumping this thread because I'm a fan of this album. It turned on lots of my, previously unused, musical taste buds as a teen. It certainly had influenced me when I chose bass as an instrument a couple of years later. As mentioned above, I bought the original release on vinyl. During a house move I recorded a lot of my vinyl onto good quality four track cassette. The tape is now quite audibly degraded. I was delighted to see that the band had re-released their album on CD. I had quite a little adventure getting a hold of a legitimate copy, heeheehee. There's a bit of speech on there that felt a kinda scifi to my young ears but it was backwards. On the vinyl version you could reverse spin it to understand the opening to track 2 - At the Gates. It's not something that you'd normally be able to do on a disc player however. I thought I'd just drop this here for laughs. Visitor2035SmallStep.mp3
  4. ...my well considered choice. I tried online banking once and it didn't suit me. I don't agree to the Ts&Cs. I helped to develop home shopping with one of Tesco's risk sharing partners. This was pre-iPad using wireless Fujitsu Team Pads. We employed ethical hackers so I'm not ignorant by any means. I got through lockdown with no online transactions whatsoever. I don't feel restricted in the slightest. Internet dependency is something I just will not buy into. I had 'nuff trouble giving up smoking. And another thing! (heeheehee) - It worries me somewhat that all landlines are being dropped in favour of VoIP. Eggs, one basket, whoops... oh dear. Basschat is my window into social media and that's as far as that goes. I prefer wetware to hardware and software most days anyway. I love a good old rant, me.
  5. ...and there's a guy works down the chip shop, swears he's Elvis... I don't do online purchases and I seldom look at eBay or Gumtree other than to add to my knowledge of what's out there. There are people on BC who could do (and have done) 3D prints for me if I supply the detailed spec or an original part for scanning. The 1818x that you referred to has a ten inch driver. Mine has just the 18inch cone with two front facing reflex ports. I was told it was an 1818. I must check the data plate at some point but it's too heavy for me to be arsed moving it.
  6. You are welcome. You have a good feedback history so I wasn't stepping outside of my comfort zone at all. If you are ever in the vicinity you are welcome to PM me then.
  7. Good one! A doff of my hat to you sir. (You can collect your redundancy payment on your way out... heeheehee)
  8. Are you within easy travelling distance of Spondon, Derby? If so PM me to set up a trial.
  9. Do you come across any 18 inch cabs? I have one that I love, even though I might never get the chance to play with it at significant volume. I have a workshop/practice room at the back of the house with an Ashdown 15" combo (Toneman 300) and the 18 inch TE as an extension. They haven't been used at all since I had to stop practising there. I was supervising a vulnerable adult indoors, full-time, and needed to be ready to drop everything with little or no notice. In the main house, I used a Laney RB3 because less Watts meant that I could turn it up to where the amp was nearer to its most efficient output. I could then continue to practise, whilst being readily available to deliver care as required. The household benefited* from the lower volumes generally. Since I have been on my own in the house, I've been lax about going back out to practise. I'd like to get back to being able to go through a set list in the workshop without undue distraction. 'Nuff waffle, else you'll be wanting maple syrup or summat with it. I wanted to ask you to keep an eye out for me. One of the reflex port liners on my cab is visibly damaged with a piece missing from its flange. I suppose TE could find me a new one. The cost and the newness against a rich patina on the rest of the cab plus the fact that I am a notorious skinflint prevents me. If you are breaking a similar cab for parts, I would be interested in getting hold of a replacement, used, port liner or two for mine. Let's talk should this be on the cards at any point. I am impressed by your "hobby" if I may call it that. I would love to see your collection. *I say benefited but it would be more truthful to say tolerated.
  10. That's looking good. I imagine you will have a lot of fun tweaking things like the knobs (as mentioned) and the control cavity cover. I had a chuckle to myself when I saw how the G string obscures the view of your "deliberate" mistake of leaving out the line in the note's tail. Did I see you had managed to fix it in an earlier image? Why not make a feature of the rotted part? Maybe a bit of faux gold filler to make it stand out. Transparent coloured fillers can look good too. Wire brush the rotten fragment out to leave an interesting texture and wah-hay!
  11. If you want it to look dangerous you should make a feature of the symbol, perhaps on the headstock, and have it backlit with a slowly pulsing U/V led. The example below is the wrong colour and the pulse rate is a little too quick but it gives you the gist of what I have in my mind's eye.
  12. Best wishes matey.
  13. It's entirely possible... Algorithms and 3D Printing Can Be Used to Create Realistic Nasal Prostheses
  14. I hope your hooter's healing well. Good work!
  15. With a screen name like that, I think the DoI needs to beware of him.
  16. That's bluer than Bernard Manning telling jokes at a working man's club with his arse painted blue!
  17. Since the move to https, I have to either sign in if I have been "inactive" for more than a certain period*, or refresh (f5) frequently to keep me logged in. *The period seems to vary depending on the time of day. In the mornings I have to refresh more often if I am not seen by the site to be active. This includes answering posts. It's frustrating to write a detailed reply to a post and find that I am logged out by the time I hit the Submit Reply button. I have learned to copy my reply to the clipboard in case my work disappears. it's okay most times because the site remembers my draft when logged back in (as long as I haven't left the thread to which I am replying). On the odd occasion that it doesn't I have to start again from scratch unless I have my work copied to the clipboard.
  18. Ooh! Ooh! U/V fretmarkers? U/V activated paint? "Sci-Fi glow" - sounds excellent.
