1. I see your funk and raise you...
2. Kev - your grey Spector is now giving me cheap ebay GAS! Chris - your ridiculously low action is making me look at my allen keys. Josie - that Aerodyne is really lovely. Vinnie - daisy pink was awesome & ta for the BB1X demo. I nearly brought the wallet out for your spare! Everyone with a Barefaced - they're nicely loud! No trouble cutting through the mix with those I expect. Not wanting to single anyone out for playability but I kept meaning to chat to this chap playing here... I did like your style of bluesy funk.
3. Cheers Grassie. That's more like it - synth bass but it plays a large part in the tune and it's got feel. I did see a pic of Paul Turner stood near what appeared to be a Moog Little Phatty.
4.
Well, if I have got this right, you should be able to click on the link below to see my really bad photography of today's events. You will the gist though. http://imgur.com/a/Jx1o4
If I learned one thing today (and I learned many) it's that the datestamp on Bassman Sam's camera is more than 4 years out.
5. Hello to all I spoke to and those I didn't. Kev - thanks for organising, appreciate it. My first outing as a bassist and I end up as the drummer
6. Les & Owen - family & friends first, I wish you / them well. Should be arriving about 12:45 give or take.
7.
my worry is that some of us are old enough to forget things people say to us
Every. Single. Day.
8. Looking at the list of what's turning up I reckon it'll just be a freefall GAS attack. Josie. dunno about the pens & paper thing - idea's good, I get where you're coming from but we all sound old enough to talk to each other.
9. The weather will be fine. Oh wait, Manchester. Bugger.
10. Cherry popper here too - in fact, this will be the first time I twang in front of actual people. Be gentle, yeah? Andy - kids are a tad more important than bass*. I know, hard to believe isn't it? :-) Hope he does well. *Filthy lies, bass is everything.
11.
Also the ticket web site is a dreadful design, asking for the same information to be entered 3 times
With you on that score, it should be a fookload smoother than that. Life's too short, some of my old sites (I build the blighters for a living) are shocking by modern standards but some punters just think 'if it ain't broke / why pay more' etc. Saying all that, l I'm really looking forward to it!
12. Gloss, it's not massively glossy like the Cort I have here, but it's definitely not matt or satin. Spot on with the nut size, 38mm!
13.
Flea and Chad isolated mixes combined
Why thank you, kind sir. I'm not a RHCP fan, in fact I missed out on all of it and I have no intention of discovering them. However, I've seen the appearances of Flea & Chad on t'Tube over the past 3 or so years I've been playing and they are my kind of d&b - so thank you for posting this as well as the OP for the thread.
14. Jamhub looks good - they seem to have packed in though. Roland HS5 perhaps? https://www.roland.com/global/products/hs-5/
15. [SOLD] I think from the serial number this is a 2011, happy to be corrected. Bought 2nd hand nearly 3 years ago from PMT Leeds, now moving on due to Jazz GAS. No trades as I've already bagged the Jazz. Plays lovely, was set up professionally about 18 months ago. Dunlop Superbrights on it atm, they've dulled off a bit. Non-smoking household, I'm not up to gigging standard yet so it's been home use only. In order to cover a larger area, I could *possibly* bring it to the LBGS if a reasonable deposit was sent prior to me bringing it. I say possibly because I've not thought about this yet!
16.
But that's 5 of the same size 1.5mm
Indeed, I can lose these things like there's no tomorrow
17.
I have to say that given a Squier and a Fender, I'd go for the Fender.
That's exactly what happened. Tried the Squier first to get a handle on the situation. The noise was pretty close but the satin neck finish and the instrument's sustain on the MiM shone through. Boy that Squier was light, not sure what wood they're using on that but it was a good dollop lighter.
18. Dunno about the OP's reason but mine is partially to tick a box of having a Fender. Partially, mind. I don't have badge-blindness, it's just that every time I've played one in a shop I've liked it *shrugs shoulders*. This thread tipped the scales today - went into local PMT, tried a Squier Vintage Modified and a MiM Fender. Looks like it'll be New Bass Day during this week
19. How's this? £1.60 inc VAT for 5 of them including delivery. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/0609584/
20.
Am I wrong on saying that PRS basses are not cheap.?
Kestrel SE about the same as a MIM Jazz, £600 ish.
21.
"I'm in the same camp as you, bub - GASing for a Jazz for a while. And here's the killer, I just missed a MIM Fender on a local Facebook group that went for £300. Could have easily viewed before buying - ruddy typical." Was that the black jazz in Leeds. I was very nearly tempted by that too, even though I've got a fantastic MIM Jazz & don't need another one! I've just gotta keep telling myself that! GAS is a terrible affliction!
That was indeed the one. I really like that scheme too - black / maple and white guard. You watch, I'll buckle and I'll go buy one new then worry about the mortgage later.
22. I'm in the same camp as you, bub - GASing for a Jazz for a while. And here's the killer, I just missed a MIM Fender on a local Facebook group that went for £300. Could have easily viewed before buying - ruddy typical. So this Squier thing is possibly a thing. I've tried a MIM Jazz and loved it, just didn't have nearly 700 squid at the time. Still don't so I'll go try them at PMT on a side by side thing. What I don't want to happen is to get a Squier and then start modding it and spending what I would have on a MIM. There's something rewarding about a cheap bass that sounds good.
23. Grunt indeed, owen. Bump with price drop and change of delivery options. [s]£320[/s] £270, pickup only (or some prior arrangement involving money to meet / deliver). Also made a video of that clicking noise (comes in at 30sec) which isn't as loud as it appears on the video but it only happens at 0% tweeter, even left on for hours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdAJnS5mBpQ
