1. Anyone else on here listen to Freekbass' broadcast every Friday night? It's been running quite a few months now, really good (IMHO) if you're a funkateer and covers a wide spectrum. Some nights are hit and miss but generally the funk is strong - expect some Ohio Players, Funkadelic, Cameo, Eddie Hazel, Bootsy, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, Brothers Johnson and such like along with more modern things thrown in. Chris and his co-host (also Chris) have a boatload of info on songs and artists along the way - plenty of stuff I'd never heard of. 2.
Thanks. I'll give that a go. Seems a bit of a faff!
I guess this will be to reduce the server space taken up by images which are many many times larger than the database or site content.
3. Debug complete. Consisted of bass straight into soundcard, mids and bass anything past 3/4, volume right down at about 1 (on a scale of 1 to 10 I mean not 1 o'clock) and treble anywhere - fuzz. Winding the volume up just gets worse (same amount of fuzz just nasty), and the pickup pot is making noise too as you go between bridge / neck. Btw, at the same time as wanting this fixing, I realise I have a built-in fuzz-o-matic, I mean who wouldn't want that? Me, obviously but it's almost cool. It's going back to Promenade, I'll update the thread when something happens but thanks for the replies.
4.
Interesting its not doing it since you opened it up.
I'm at that stage now where I'm getting somewhere. Being a logical sort I'm trying to nail it before I speak to the shop. It's still doing it but I want to be able to replicate it each time and then test with a 2nd active bass - knowing full well that a different bass only gives me a floating reference point rather than anything conclusive. I have plugged / unplugged so many things I need to write this all down now, including where the soundcard gains are and what inputs I'm using.
...unless you do something violent like connecting a battery backwards or dropping the bass (no not like that, I mean actually letting the bass fall onto the ground!).
This genuinely made me chuckle as I did at first think you meant physically dropping the bass but no, I'm more likely to cut the midrange
5. Thanks for the replies, just to say that since writing I've noticed it's not doing it (like when, y'know, you have a Drs appointment) but that might be I've dialled in a preferred tone rather than trying to make it go bad. Perhaps I've (un)disturbed something when taking the picture. I noticed it the most when I had it through a few pedals so I'll couple it back into those and see how it goes & report back. I'm still under manufacturer's warranty and Promenade even said that if I had any further problems they'd not hesitate to have the distributor Pro El take a look. I'm therefore reluctant to tinker in there. Btw - Plunger - is there a specific sort of plastic that preamps can be wrapped in? Side note: Is it me or do no manufacturers care about the neatness of their wiring? I've not looked in many guitars but those I have tend to be 'shove it in, it'll be right'. Boutiques any better? I'd not purchase because of wiring or anything, and I get that they make it so components can be re-soldered and such but they just seem like hack jobs!
6. MWH - I can moan for England. One thing about middle age is you become a proficient moaning git. Huzaaah. Dad3353 - Cheers and whereabouts in France are you? Love the place, slightly jealous now. SpondonBassed - There's a thing, a beautiful silver box - hang onto it. Hubrad - ey up thee-er! West Yorks here too, between Wakey and Ponte. Josie - Yep, a friend bought a crap guitar / combo / lead pack for about £150 and he picked it up twice. TBH I don't think his heart was in it anyway, one of those things to tick off a list. Add a Vanderkley 112MNT to the list...just fell in love with the clean tone - the Eden was too nasal. The BeatBuddy sounds sweet as a nut through it too!
7. Just because I didn't sign in for a while and then these replies came in a few weeks after I posted, I never checked. Just saying thanks as I didn't want to appear rude.
8. Yes, it's the Bartonlinis on this one - A4 Artisan. Not sure if you can see anything amiss from this, typical I sold a great macro lens to help buy the guitar! 9. Most of the time I play with the thing flat but noticed a real overdriven fuzz sort of sound when I pumped the mid control to the top. I did have the bass up about 3/4 of the way around at the time so I backed it off and it came back to sounding good but now I find I'm unable to crank the mids. I'm sure it's not too much gain on the amp as I can plug straight into the soundcard bypassing the amp entirely and it still does it and I can tell that the inputs aren't overloaded. It definitely happens more the more I dig in, but if I crank the mids and have the bass anything above half, it's pretty noticeable without plucking too hard. btw, I swapped the battery just in case it was that - no, that's not it. It went in for repair for excessive battery drain (lasting 2 to 3 weeks of about an hour a day play) which seems to have been fixed and I didn't notice the fuzz before then - to be fair to the shop (Promenade and they were *very* helpful with the repair - ringing with updates too) I don't know if that's the case or not, I'm happy to hold my hands up there. So my question is - should I be able to have the tones up a long way without fuzz? It's still under warranty, I just don't want to send it back if 'they all do that sir'. I know, I know... "don't ruddy dig in"
10. Go on... one more before bedtime...
11. Loving some of the rarities in this thread...thanks... keep 'em coming...
12. I don't know if they share the same circuitry but my BG250 mk2 (circa 2014) had an electrical fault which caused it to pop quite loudly when turning on and you could see a blue flash of light from the amp area near the mains connector. Known problem apparently and was repaired under warranty. Was fine after that. Secondary matter but I found if the volume on my phone wasn't loud enough or I didn't have the gain right, the toneprint wouldn't work. You need to see the lights flash immediately after the tone ends then it's picked it up.
13. Mick Karn - Japan. Paul Gardiner - Numan.
14. If there were another 3 of us in here we could have a right good moan about how easy they have it now and how we used to dreeeeeeam of hot gravel for tea. Anyway... hello boys and girls. Gear I've owned in the past might be a good way of kicking off.... in no particular order (sieve brain helps with that)... Roland SH101 Roland TR606 Roland MC202 Roland TR808 Roland TR505 Roland W30 + some other bits I can't recall but it's a Roland thing for sure. God I miss that 808. ..is a list I'd have written joining a synth forum but I thought I'd start by explaining that I chose the electronic side of music back in the 80s. But the funk has always been strong with me - and if I was to pick up anything, it'd have to be bass. Fast forward to 2 years ago and I bought an Ernie Ball Sterling SB14 second hand from PMT in Leeds along with a TC BG250. Bit much for starting up but wanted to play something that I wanted to pick up day in day out. Since then I've flogged the combo and gone for an Eden head & 4x10 cab a friend was selling - I couldn't turn it down. It's ruddy massive for the home office but I have a hankering for giving the double glazing a hard time. Either that or I'll be the only bloke to die from the bends 70 miles from water. I also went to the LBGS on Saturday (enjoyed!) and came away with a new toy (ahem, WITH wife's permission I might add - beat that!). Cort A4 in spalted maple and I love it, so much more playable than the Sterling but what do I know, I'm a noob. Worst place to buy a guitar they said....they were right but I just loved the feel. Again, too much for my beginner status but playability means it feels better means I play better. This could be total bow-larks but I am picking it up every single day, have no idea on even basic music theory but I'm having fun and I'm definitely improving very slowly. Very slowly. So, hello everyone !
