1. If you want a clean tone why pay the extra for the tube? Why not just get a LM800. Agree with the comments above. Markbass is top quality gear so you can't really go wrong with it but don't assume that you've got to have a rig consisting of a 4x10 + 1x15.
2. Allparts Tortie scratchplate. Still sealed in packaging. It's this one http://www.guitarpar...kguard_pre.html Bottom right. Vintage Nitrate Tortoise pickguard for Precision £25 delivered in the UK
3. Set of Wizard Thumpers. Brand new condition. Never been fitted to a bass. Still in original packaging £40 delivered in the UK
4. Ok. I'm in no great rush to sell so if you want me to hold it til later in the week can do.
5. This is a genuine Fender VR nickel plated bridge. As new and still sealed in the original packaging. £25 delivered in the UK
6. I bought this for a build that I lost interest in. It's a Warmoth standard Precision neck. Spec as follows Maple shaft, Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Steel trussrod. 20 vintage style 6230 frets. 17.5mm BML tuner holes. white Corian nut. 1 11/64" nut width 10" board radius gloss vintage tint laquer. It's unused so in new condition. Obviously it doesn't come with a manufacturer's warranty but in the very unlikely event of any problems I'll give a full refund and take it up with Warmoth myself. This neck was $348 + Import duty and couriers admin of £51 so a bargain at £170 delivered in the UK plus you'll get it in 2 days rather than the 2 months it takes for a custom neck from Warmoth. I'll also chuck in a Fender decal, nickel string tree and chrome neck plate with gasket
7. I've got a set of vintage style tuning keys that I bought in error. They've been opened and repackaged straight away so are as new. £35 delivered in the UK
8. They are probably 8 ohms so unfortunately the answer to your question is no. You can rewire it to give a 16 ohm load but that won't help you a lot
9. Packaged. Also IIRC it was under 12Kg with packaging
10. I posted a Jazz to jsixties in Madrid. IIRC it cost around £50 to £60 including enhanced insurance of £1000 with Interparcel. What really pushed the cost up was the insurance. Most standard insurance only covers up to £50 I think.
11.
What are the delivery charges like? I had a look at the site but couldn't work it out.
If you add the parts you want to your "cart" and go to checkout, it'll calculate the postage before you have to put in your card details.
12. I've ordered stuff from them a few times. It always arrives quickly and so far I haven't been stung for duty even though it was over the £19 (I think) threshold.
13.
I do need to be quite loud to compete with 2 guitars, drums amd singer. Is there an idiots guide to power considerations for heads/cabs anyone could point me to? Is it safe to say I need a 500w amp? Cheers J
I've played small pub gigs with a MAG250 1x15 combo, which is about the same order of loudness as what you're looking at but anywhere bigger it'll struggle and as it seems that you can't add another cab to that setup I would look for something you can add to. Ashdown have an 8 ohm MAG 2x10 in their range which I would expect somewhere like PMT to have in stock. 500watts is better than 300 but the main factor determining your volume will be speaker cone area and efficiency and EQ settings. Something else to consider is how loud you are going to be able to play in your average pub. Guitar heros love turning their Marshalls up to ear bleeding levels in band practice but most pubs I've played in the first words the landlord usually utters are "can you turn down please" so maybe it won't be as much of a problem as you think. It depends on the venues you'll be playing.
14. I suspect the 4 ohm rating of the cab in the seller's blurb may be incorrect. It doesn't really make much sense to produce a 4 ohm 2x10 if none of your amps can run at 2 ohms. Edit: A quick Google reveals that everyone selling it says it's 4 ohm and it's not listed on the Ashdown site
15.
i might need more headroom. Are they as loud as people say? and would a 2x12 give a nice fat bottom (ooh er missus)
I've owned the LM2 and 3 and they do seem loud, largely due to the built in voicing. They don't produce a lot below 100hz, which is not a bad thing obviously because most of those lows are unnecessary, and what you want to hear from a bass is largely low mids anyway. Some people have also commented that the gain pots are not linear so it seems louder than it actually is. I used an LM3 into a 8 ohm single 15 and it was running out of steam earlier than I would have liked because the limiter kept kicking in making it sound quite compressed, but it was a fairly loud band with two guits and a heavy handed drummer. All that this proves is that loudness or perceived loudness depends on many factors and it is not as straightforward as one amp being louder than another. If only life were that simple.
16. Is that the one that Grubbs is selling? It looks like it's in good condition so provided you like the Ashdown sound it's a good deal. Edit: Agree with Phil Starr. 2 2x10s is a better option. Budget 4x10s are HEAVY. The MAG is over 70lbs, but if you're young and strong then it's probably not a problem
17. I actually find the comedy presentation rather endearing, but as you say, it isn't really good enough in the cutthroat world of international business. I wish they'd get someone like Ed Freidland, but Guy Pratt doesn't do a bad job. Having worked in manufacturing for over 30 years, I've often felt like tearing my hair out in frustration at seeing the British characteristic of bumbling amateurishness and muddling through problems after they've occurred so I get your point.
18. Ooh er. 130KG each. I can't see me getting one of those in the back of the Focus
19. Or maybe not. If the 550 is the same as the 220 then it'll deliver it's full power into the internal speaker. I wonder how a single 15 will cope with 550w. OTOH the MiBass is switchable between 4 and 8 ohms so if Ashdown are really on the ball they'll have a speaker out that will enable another 4 ohm cab to be in series with the internal speaker. Edit: Doh!! What am I talking about. If the head delivers it's full power into 4 or 8 ohms then the internal speaker load is probably 8 ohms so it can drive an 8 ohm extension cab in parallel.
20. Those Mibass combos look very interesting. The 550 with a 15" extension cab would make a cracking portable rig.
