A lesson in why you should always buy your cables from OBBM
You can't whack OBBM cables with a big stick! I love em
Every other cable I use is an OBBM other than these 2 -
So I recently aquired an Alembic F-1X preamp, having decided that I should run my rig differently. So going from Mesa Boogie 400+ into 4x10 (Slaved into) Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 into 8x10 Prior to running this I'd just run the 400+ at 2.67 ohms, which is fine but decided this would be better, then the next problem is 400+ provides 4x10 with near 400w and 8x10 is being provided 200w per side so 400w in total. So I've gone to Alembic F-1X Into Strategy 1 into 8x10 (Strategy Left into Bottom of 8x10, Strategy Right into Top of 8x10) Strategy 2 into 4x10 (Strategy Left into 4x10, Strategy Right - OFF) It sounds amazing, so I had the drummer with me and was showing off, going listen to a 3rd of my rig (1 half of the strategy with 1 4x10) then I started doing this with the 8x10 and all of a sudden the bottom 4x10 with 200w of power was louder, fuller and generally amazing sounding compared to the 8x10 with 400w. So I tried the other half, top of 8x10 and other side of Strategy and low and behold same sound, again bigger than the 8x10. Put them both on, loud, quite full, little bit distorted. Suddenly went, OMFG the cab is wired out of phase with it's self, can't believe I've been using this for a year and it's been wired out of phase, then it dawned, there was nothing wrong with the cab but I was sending 2 cables to the 8x10, 2 NONE OBBM 20ft cables I had bought on BC cheap to save money, took them apart and sure as hell one of the speakons was wired up differently. Now many may say, how could you have not heard this, well I've used cabs out of phase before and it is clearly noticeable, massive loss in volume and aweful sound. The 8x10 is still loud and I've eq'd it thinking this is how it sounded. Also note that since I only recently aquired a preamp the only way I've been able to run the Strategy is with the 400+ which needs a load so the 4x10 has been on and again this is so loud and full it's difficult to tell if one half of a cab isn't working right. Also only been using the rig with 400+ and Strategy for a month or 2 and by having a 4x10 nand rack on side of stage and 8x10 on the other the sound was always loud and full anyway. So here is the moral, make sure you check what you buy, or buy from OBBM and get it right first time. Can't freakin believe it.
How's the SFT treating you? If TB is to be believed it should have sorted out your finances, bought you a bigger house and serviced you sexually by now.
It is actually that good if not better best overdrive and amp simulator I've ever used, not that I've ever had many pedals or anything you know.

Baby rig Big rig in progress Still looking for a 25K EB, getting a Patchbay made and then decide whether I go George L or something a bit more robust and heavy duty.

I need to give one of these companies a call as I need 2 matched sets of 12 for my current rig as I think it will be with me for a very very long time
hi i think its a bulgin type socket i used to have the same thing on an old selmer amp
Yeah for sure. Get it replaced or you'll end up getting a nasty shock one day, won't cost much for a decent tech to do.

Up for sale is my Mesa Boogie 400+, my reason for sale is I'm moving over to Matamp bass amps in the next few months and when this sells I can order my first one and use my Alembic and 2 x Strategy Rig I'm putting together tonight for live. It is the older 6 band graphic eq model, which just means it has one less high freq band not that it matters. So bit of history about this amp, it has been in the Basschat family for a while, having been owned by Kiwi, Ped, stewartmcewan and myself. Ped had it revalved about 4 years a go with Harma's, which since I had this amp serviced about 2 weeks ago are still working flawlessly, that's the beauty of the 400+ it's sooo loud you run it at like 3 and put no strain on the tubes what so ever. I think it could benefit from the 12AT7or 12AU7 in the drive section instead of the stock 12AX7 as it's a bit gainy, which is great if you want it to be, but obviously this could be tamed if you are looking for a smooth clean sound from it. But this is a common tube change and some people believe is how the amp was actually designed to run. It has lived in a shockmounted rack since I got it but this won't be included as it's 14u and will be holding most of my new rig. It's in great condition, bit dusty, no chips or scratches or anything of importance to mention, I will get it out of my practice room tonight and snap some pics but these are very tough and robust amps and it's lived in an even tougher and robust case. I'm after £800 for it Not really interested in trades at this point Cheers
I doubt that, I play at a sensible volume, they'll last a long time
Erm I was talking about Ash's cab that is being built by Matamp, it's now either finished or nearly finished.

Well as for touring with tube amps, I gig loads and tour quite often and all my amps are tube, as our both my guitarists, we don't have problems with them. I just had my 400+ serviced and it was about £100 but at the same time it's from 1982 and none of the previous 3 owners (all bc'ers) mentioned that they ever had anything fixed. The tall and short of it is if you want a tube amp sound nothing but a tube amp will do you, regardless of people going on about the benefits of tube preamps and ss power amps, tube pre's do not add that extra harmonic depth. I'm looking at getting rid of my 400+ to get 2 Matamp GT200's, I also have 2 Mesa Boogie Stategy 400's that I'm going to pair with an Alembic F-1X, So I might end up with the Alembic and a Strategy and 2 GT-200's, or a GT200 and the Alembic and 2 Strategies or 2 GT200's and the 400+ Not sure at the moment, they all have their pros and cons the main Matamp con is the cost of buying 2 of them which I can't do outright and I can't sell my Mesa gear off to fund it as I'd have nothing gig worthy then but once the Alembic comes the 400+ can go and the first GT200 can come in then a Strategy can go as I can use a GT200 and Strategy and then the 2nd GT200 will come in and then I can take it from there.........maybe How I've broken it down recently is this Mesa 400+ Pros Loud Rackmountable Cheap relationally to other tube gear (2nd Hand) Very robust and roadworthy Lots of eq and tone options and plenty of I/O for all your needs Mesa Tone Cons Very expensive to retube No support from Mesa or Warrenty Mesa Tone (This is in both because you either love it or hate it, I plugged a GT200 into my Strategy and it still has all that clean top that Mesa's have, this can be great or awful) GT200 Pros Loud Reliable Cheap to retube (£120 to do all the power tubes) Lifetime warrenty where most repairs are done for free Custom built to your spec both sound and asthetics Cons Cost due to people never selling them second hand but at the same time still cheaper than Hiwatt and Orange Won't do a 2ohm load (But you were never going to run 2 8x10's on this like me) That's about all I can think of

You should have gone with the Audere preamp personally mate

Bass Day UK 2009 (Royal Northern College of Music - Nov 22)

Matamp have just booked a stall on the 3rd floor, so plenty of cabs and amps for people to try I'll also be there. -
Be interested to know what you use for your 'cream pie' patch? My plan for the 6 effects is currently... Whammy, Octave, Synth, Delay, Reverb, Boost. And to keep separate drive pedals. But I may just filter everything off into two different scenes lumped into two groups of effects I commonly use together if I like the drive sounds. I can't wait to have a play though!
Tube Comp

Mad synth-like bass sounds without getting a synth?
tayste_2000 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like you want a drone looper like the dd3 to fire a sound into and hold it
