1. There's also the EV ELX 115 to consider, though again, gotta be 2nd hand, sadly
2. I was thinking about what JT said in that if we're throwing the kick through the mains, then the suggestion of 15's was mentioned. That kinda leaves out the RCF 310's Remember, we're not using subs The 735 are over budget unless 2nd hand, and i'm struggling to find used 735 on the market at under £700 for pair. Someone mentioned Mackie Thump 15's ( not on here ) but the word is they're cheap entry level. I would rather go better quality within budget AS it seems 15's are better if a kick drum is going thru 'em, i had a look at the DB Technologies Opera 915DX. Apparently ( i havent a clue myself ) that DB Tech is owned by RCF or they use RCF internals. I cant say, but i have seen some used ones for £725 ( a pair )
3. Its time to downsize my bass equipment, so a brutal culling of the herd is necessary Apart from my Carvin BX1600, i'm also selling this Source Audio Bass Enevlope Filter Pro I assume evryone knows what this genius box of tricks entails, if not i guess its all on the Source Audio website Its pristine condition - and i know the surface looks oddball, but thats because its still has the original protective cellophane on. I've owned this from new, hence the box , paperwork, and an unused S.A. supplied power supply that came with it. I simply used my power block so didn't need to use the PS I will post free of charge anywhere in the UK mainland
4. Would like to get away from subs, if possible. Another option ...DB Tech Opera 915 ( apparently something to do with RCF ) ?
5. Thanks for the advice guys Sadly, at 68lbs per cab x 4, not only are they too heavy for my poor old back, i doubt i'd fit them in my hatchback along with the other essentials. So much as i like the idea of them, on a practical level, they're not Other option, as you guys dont like the Mackie 450 V3 cabs, is the JBL PRX 612M. I guess they're not in the Martin league either, but i have to compromise
6. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
7. Yegods ! What is the controller for ? MInd you its a mighty long drive to pick them up.
8. Cheers freak, dont know about the desk You have a good point about 2nd hand, but not everyone has the money to hurl at new stuff, AND quality to boot We're already throwing the kick drum through some right 'oribble powered full range cabs. Little jobs, 300 watt, dont know what they are ( i aint in charge of the PA and i dont set it up either ) but it copes ok with the kick. ) The RCF 7 series are way out of budget - so they're a non starter financially The only reason we want to go a bit higher spec / output is because we're thinking of running the bass through as well.
9. Mackie Thump 15's ? G4Music selling a pair with stands and stand bag for £565 .. but cant find any reviews
10. Our band is currently looking for some active full range PA speakers, and they will be handling vocals / bass / kick drum. No gittards will be going through GAK have some Mackie SRM 450 V3 for £339 each including delivery. Now then, the V2 SRM 450's had an awful reputation on the internetweb. Unreliability seems rife. So has anyone taken the risk and bought / used the V3's ? I've also tracked down some used JBL PRX 612M's, but at £750 with no warranty, i'm a bit concerned. Especially as the Mackies will be cheaper new with warranty than the pair of JBL's 2nd hand with no warranty. The JBL's are a private sale Would love to hear anyone's experiences with SRM 450 V3 or JBL PRX 612M Any other recommendations appreciated - would rather buy 2nd hand quality, than new but cheap. Reliability is just as important as the sound Thanks peoples
11. I'd like to know at which Hz one gets the ' size 10 Hobnail in the family jewels ' type tone I'm planning on taking out the first row of punters at a gig tonight
12.
I'd rather make a socialist state of where I reside, thank you. Interesting thread, this.
You'll be joining a very small club. Good luck
13. Capitalism at its ugliest / finest PS how do you know he's making a profit ?
14.
I know there is no point me moaning, but I think paying VAT on a product that has already attracted VAT is just insane.
Legal Gov. backed robbery. Its been going on for a fair few decades now, and not just here in the UK Think about the taxes paid when you buy a bass from the USA. They add the VAT on the cost of shipping too ! That isnt " value added tax " If you paid £300 for the bass before shipping then the value of the bass is £300, not £400 because the shipping cost £100 on top Hows about that for legal robbery right in front of your face and in daylight ?
15. If anyone doesnt like capitalism rearing its ugly head, it might better to move to a socialist state somewhere Why anyone gets suprised anymore about profit being made at all by anyone, in any sector , anywhere, IS actually surprising Yes, its ugly, but thats the way the world works. Its not milk and honey. Better to get over it / join in / etc
16. More parcel reassurance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q6_9A90cUk
17. The Bass Direct page for Fion's bass is still there
18. Its good for your CV !! Back in the 80's, the band i was in got to play on the Tommy Vance Friday Night Rock Show on the Beeb, but it led to nothing
19. We've had occasions , just like all other bands, where someone cannot rehearse, but we're in the fortunate position of being able to rehearse in our rhyth git's back room, where the PA , all amps, and a drumkit are permanently set up. Having said that, we've tried reheasring without one of the guys there, and its quite hard work. Its those times when you suddenly realise that you take cues from everyone else, especially the drummer, in our case. Rehearsals without the singer are just as awkward, for us anyway, and same goes for the both guitarists. The only person the band can rehearse without and still get a somewhat decent practice in, is me
20. No they're not, as far as i know. I do believe that Alan of ACG used to fit them to his basses at one point.
21. Another pro vote I changed out the standard soapbars in my ESP LTD fretless for Barts soapbars ( classics ) and its transformed the sound. There's no lack of top end on these, if needed. Its just not harsh, and thats a good thing. But beef on low / low- mid is where i roll anyway, and these have it in spades Then again, its highly possible to make any top end sound harsh, with the right electronics and amp settings.
