2.
Right I don't know if anyone else will find this useful but I think it may be a fun idea. I quite often find that I play the same old rhythms all the time and I reckon I am probably not the only one. So what I thought would be a good idea would be for people to suggest a rhythm. Would be interesting to see what other rhythms people will suggest to practice to. I will get the ball rolling with this:
Have a listen to some Cuban Music - a life time of Rhythm study. Garry
  3.
The guy who broke the mould was James Blanton who died tragically young in his twenties. He broke away from simple four to the bar in his playing and Duke Ellington, recognising his talent, made sure he was forward in the mix. Just one bass player did a lot for a whole orchestra - probably the foremost of its time - and we as bass players should celebrate that.
So, So true...... 5.
A scientific expedition disembarks from its plane at the final outpost of civilization in the deepest Amazon rain forest. They immediately notice the ceaseless thrumming of native drums. As they venture further into the bush, the drums never stop, day or night, for weeks. The lead scientist asks one of the natives about this, and the native's only reply is "Drums good. Drums never stop. Very BAD if drums stop." The drumming continues, night and day, until one night, six weeks into the trip, when the jungle is suddenly silent. Immediately the natives run screaming from their huts, covering their ears. The scientists grab one boy and demand "What is it? The drums have stopped!" The terror-stricken youth replies "Yes! Drums stop! VERY BAD!" The scientists ask "Why? Why? What will happen?" Wild-eyed, the boy responds, " . . . BASS SOLO!!!" -
Drum roll....Segue the next old one. Bass solos, Gentlemen and don't... Garry
  6.
So he uses the word ftrets when he means positions or something - hardly the end of the world. Hands up who has never referred to a fret position when playing a fretless bass. Personally I get annoyed with people on here who talk about a maple/rosewood/ebony neck, when they actually mean the fretboard or fingerboard, but I don't ridicule them for it. However to say that the first position is halfway between the second 'Fret' and the open string is wrong.
You are correct - Hardly the end of the world. However - after reading all that it feels like it. Sorry Clive - no offence intended. Garry

  14.
When it comes to fees, remember that union rates are generally regarded as minimums, budgets are tighter these days but if you are working for established producers and signed artists then you can push prices up a bit. I do anything from a speculation for points up to set rates above union minimums depending on the job.
Someone above has said 150.00 for a eight hour day, but in reality you should be looking at getting that or around that fee for A three hour session [And that would be roughly around the MU rate, which would include porterage etc] 400 to 500.00 for a whole days work would not be unusual. But like you said Jake, it depends on the budget, the profile etc. And more often than not, you would be told the fee and its a case of take it or leave it. If its someone you know they would try and get the money up. Garry
  15.
Yeah it seems a wise port of call, I suppose I better get an MU membership then!...(although It would help If I had £100 lying around to join!)
What ever fee you get, Further down the road other payments could/can come your way depending on what the session was for and what broadcasts etc. So PPL is worth joining, they collect any other performance money that may be due to you. http://www.ppluk.com/ Good luck with it all. Garry
  16. As Doddy says Musescore is very good, and free, but it is full on [But you need to start somewhere] I use Finale - but they have a great 'Idiot Proof' starter with 'Finale Notepad' for $9.95 You can download the Notepad demo and see how Idiot proof it is. 17. Yep, for sure a real knuckle full, and so well played. Actually i quite like the High Standards album, JB playing some standards for a change. Thanks for the link to the Basso Ridiculoso site. Garry
Why would reputable manufacturers produce USB audio interfaces with up to 16 ins/outs, if they don't work properly?
They do work properly. But the better one's are a bit more dosh wise. RME being one of the best and most respected around with really really solid Audio & Midi drivers. 23.
actually recent DAWs such as cakewalk 8.5 and newer come with an in built bridge app so you can use 32 bit plugins on the 64 bit version.
They do , but the J-Bridge has much more options for dealing with rogue plug ins... And can also do reverse bridge - 64 to 32 bit if needed. Garry

    Reason 5
The reason for Reason (sorry ) is I thought it might be more intuative when working with loops and samples. R.
All good DAW'S should be good for using loops and Samples and Midi. But Ableton Live really shines when using samples and loops. Comes with a huge library of sounds, loops and instruments.
