  1. I'm selling one too, these are good amps! Buy our crap...
  2. This bass is virtually brand new 10/10 condition. Having spent a few weeks with it, it's perfect in pretty much every way, but on reflection the tone just isn't for me. Got my heart set on a Yamama TRB/BB, need something fatter and more vintage sounding I think. The fanned fret neck is an absolute joy and practically plays itself, I adapted to it within minutes. Powerful modern active sound, versatile features. The burled poplar top is a real eye catcher! Super light weight, as with a lot of SRs the neck is heavier than the body! Lots of hardwood in the neck so it's very bright and punchy. Specs: Multi-scale 35.5" @ B to 34" @ G (not as extreme as Dingwall et al) Mahogany/Walnut/Burled poplar body Jatoba/Walnut neck w/ Panga Panga fretboard Bartolini BH2 humbuckers w/ 3-band EQ and 3-way mid selector Mono-rail bridge (adjustable string spacing) Active/passive toggle The bass is in brand new condition minus a small (what looks like) metallic paint mark on the finish at the controls, not sure why but it looks fairly easily removable if you're bothered. These retail at just shy of £900 so please, grab a discount! These higher end SRs are some serious kit. It just doesn't suit me like I thought it would. I have all the orig. packaging so can ship at cost, collection is preferred however.
  3. Currently fretlessless but I have owned a couple nice ones in the past - a Hohner Jazz copy and an Ibanez Portamento 5 which I recently sold on. Do want to get another at some point, just a 4 string again. Would absolutely love a Wal MkI but I just don't see how I'm ever going to afford one! NS Design should come out with a fretless version of their WAV Radius.
  4. My MIM Jazz is currently my number one. It's a workhorse, sounds how I want it to sound and (with the additional of a black scratchplate) - looks how I want it to look. Stock it's perfectly fine, though I do have some idea on how to trick it out if I can be bothered - graphite neck, engraved control plate etc. Compared it with the more expensive Deluxe Active in the shop and the Deluxe didn't click with me at all. The Standard, it was instantly there as soon as I picked it up. I just wanted something passive and as straightforward as I could get. Good value for money too.
  5. That's beautiful, what's the nut width?
  6. Can I tempt anyone @ £150? Tidy little head w/ transparent tone and flexible EQ
  7. Oh my lord. Sadly I doubt I have anything you'd be interested in. Ibanez multiscale 5-string?
  8. Compact, shiny and cool looking, 260w @ 4ohms, DI/effects loop, 3 band EQ w/ mid shift @550 and 2.2k, has that Eden sound. Not boxed but I do have the power lead. Some minor scratching to the front panel and underside. Perfect for rehearsals and small gigs! Looking for £200 ONO. Collection/meetup preferred (Reading area) but can ship.
  9. I'm probably in the minority of Joke fans to admit that Night Time and Brighter Than A Thousand Suns are my favourites, in large part due to Paul's bass playing on those albums being absolutely huge.
  10. More on the Goth side but no discussion of these kindof players is complete without mentioning Fields of the Nephilim's Tony Pettit. Has anyone out there ever successfully figured out what he's doing on 'Psychonaut'? I know it's some kind of delay pedal trick but it's been baffling me for about a decade since I first heard it. To say nothing of other more straightforward ones like 'Love Under Will' where the bass still absolutely defines the track. Sadly the band are only a shadow of their former selves, and seeing them in December just gone left me disappointed (much like in 2011). But that was my first time seeing them since Tony rejoined and it was almost worth it just to see him tear it up.
  11. Good tone does matter, but context is everything and you don't have to get too technical or obsessive about it. Really it depends on what you're playing. For pretty much anything I might want to play, a Jazz w/ both pickups and tone wide open, through a Sansamp (adjusting blend, drive and EQ dependant on context), is about the best/most suitable tone going. I like to play with certain EQ settings, but that's more for my own enjoyment. I'm aware the average listener at a gig is likely to neither be too informed or really care that much as long as the overall sound of the band works.
  12. Thanks for the input so far guys. Can anyone vouch for this? The M7, that's the one I'm specifically GASSing for. Not so much interested in the Fender type.
  13. Greetings! I'm in the market for a new 5-string (fretted) to replace my SR305E. The other day I sat down very briefly with a Warwick GPS Thumb in Andertons. My god. Safe to say the only thing stopping me was the £1500 price tag. Little out of my range at the moment. But that tone!!! I'm really feeling the Sire Marcus Miller M7 5 string (Ash version). Any owners here care to persuade me? Never played a 35" scale before but that thing is sending me tidal GAS waves. Looks and sounds very versatile. What looks like immense bang for the buck. I know these things have been taking the bass scene by storm the last couple of years. I'm on a mission to demo one myself. The sheer amount of controls is mildly intimidating. Failing that it'd be another Ibby, probably the SR655 as I've had the Bart equipped SRs before and I want something different. The P/J Norstrands in that look really nice. I swear by SRs and I know if I pick one up it'd work for me right off the bat, but I'm very open to trying something different. Anything else I should be aware of? I'd love an MTD but a lot of them are a little on the pricey side for me right now.
  14. Favourite Jazz has to be David Torn's Cloud About Mercury album. I bought it purely on impulse because of the other names on the sleeve (Levin/Bruford/Isham), and the weird trippy album cover. It's experimental fusion w/ a strong world influence in parts, always mindblowing but never not tasteful. Probably not for everyone but I think it's very special. Also love Tutu by Miles Davis, one that seems to divide opinions/ be quite underrated IMO. Rock, impossible to choose but I'm getting mad into Fields of the Nephilim again these days. Tony Pettit, probably the best bassist of that style. Love Under Will, Psychonaut, so many huge basslines that just drive the entire song and absolutely make it.
  15. Thanks for the input guys! Funnily enough the issue seems intermittent and has gone away for now...not sure what to make of it. Maybe the tone knob just needed some wiggling. I'll have to see if it comes back. Anyway, a thread is useless without pics! As mentioned, one sexy black scratch plate later... [attachment=247645:IMG_20170620_193623.jpg] Chuffed! Thinking of throwing some oldskool control knobs on there too, and most likely replace the pickups further down the line for the fun of it. What's good? I like the look of the Seymour Duncan stuff.
  16. Anyone know why this new Jazz would be making a wierd, slightly distorted sound? I don't recall it being noticeable in the two amps I played it through at the shop yesterday. Through my own amp and also through my mixer thru the Sansamp it makes this odd fuzzy sound when played. Weirdly it seems to happen only when the tone control is fully open. Backed off to about 75% and below, it goes away. Affects both pickups. Fault wiring, bad solder? I haven't had a look inside yet.
  17. I played a Walnut 4003s yesterday out of curiosity, having never actually played a Rick before. The neck was a bit chunky but I could still handle it. I didn't much like the tone or ergonomics though. It's one of those things, I can see why it's a classic and revered by many, and some of my favourites (Lemmy, Lee, Squire, McCartney, Craig Adams) have done great things with it. I did look nice though! But no way I'd pay almost two and a half thousand pounds for it.
  18. Thanks for the replies! Was in the shop today trying out a few different basses, including a few Js. The Deluxe Active I found surprisingly disappointing. It felt quite nice but the tone wasn't doing it for me. Granted the display model wasn't amazingly set up. The USA was very nice but out of my budget. Played the Flea model, which is actually one of the nicest feeling and sounding basses I've ever played, but due to the price and not being a fan of relics that was a no go. The FSR 60s Jazz was also very impressive and looked (and felt) ace, but again out of my price range. Almost went for a Rockbass Corvette with single coils. There was no Classic 70s or Geddy to try unfortunately. In the end I settled on a nice black MIM Jazz (maple FB) which was set up really nice, and the neck felt just right to me. One black scratch plate later and it'll be grand!
  19. What are people's opinions on Eden? I bought a WTX-264 not long ago, got a nice deal on it seeing as they've been discontinued. It's 260w @ 4ohm. My first bass head that I've owned myself, I tried it through a Markbass 2x10 and it had plenty of volume to it. Nice transparent amp that doesn't "colour" the tone much, just represents the sound of your bass very well (was playing a Spector Legend through it). Very clean and modern sounding. EQ and contour knobs don't need much tweaking to make a pretty noticeable difference! Rigs I've played through that I loved: an SVT-3 Pro through a cab that I can't remember, and there was this one show where a guy was using a Portaflex head and an SVT head through (I believe) a 4x10 and a 1x12. He was playing a Fodera through it. It made my £300 Ibanez sound like a million dollars.
  20. And possible alternatives? I love Jazz Basses, I've mainly played Ibanez and other more modern active basses but recently I've developed a real love for the back to basics, classic simplicity of a passive bass with two single coils. I've got a Squier VM and despite a couple of downsides (basswood body, the tuners suck) it's a great window into what owning a "proper" Jazz would be like. So, being that my birthday is coming up I want to take the leap and get my first proper Fender. I've looked at the Mexican Standards. They look nice, if a little plain, and are right on the amount of money I'd be wanting to spend. I'm very interested in the 70s Classic Jazz bass and the Deluxe Active models. What are people's opinions of those here? Worth the extra £200 or so? I also noticed there's a Geddy available in the same price range, presumably Mexican? And what are some possible alternatives? I really like the look of the Sandberg stuff in the same kindof price range, and if that's better than a MIM Fender then I'd happily jump all over it. Thanks!
  21. I tried a set of Daddario's a few years back and didn't like them at all. The E sounded dead right out of the packet, maybe I just got a bad set. Tried full flatwound Chromes after that and haven't looked back since.
